We will be concluding the Festival of Stars

It should be noted that with the destruction of the Titans, certain areas have now contracted the spirits of those Titans which then inhabit that area:

  • Smash Dungeon and Boss Raid- Fire Titan (This area has become far more active with fire spewing out more and rivers of lava cutting out pathways around the area.)
  • Spirits- Ice Titan (This area, which was mostly ruinous in appearance with glowing crystals of various colors has now been encroached with spires of ice and a haze that has settled.)
The next Festival will be including a character from a particular company so we will be first submitting a company to base our submissions off from. Ubisoft will be barred from a submission. Submissions will begin tomorrow morning so start brainstorming which company you will be submitting! This is not a submission round!

We will progress to our next festival which is Festival of the Essence

This will see a new Titan; the Nature Tian come to invade our area and eventually take over an area of our hub world. That being said, we will be submitting a character who will be included during this festival but who will also have a stake in helping defeat the Titan in its story.

That being said, our submission guidelines are…

Submit a Company to Base our Submissions Off From

We will be submitting a company from which our character submissions will largely be based on. This company needs a wide range of characters to draw from to bring forth quality submissions. It can be either western of Japanese or in other parts of Asia. Ubisoft and Capcom can’t be submitted. Netherealm as well but only because they are almost solely represented by Mortal Kombat which we have. Please highlight some characters which could in theory be submitted followed by a write up of why this company should be used.

Type-Moon

Known for such famous titles as Melty Blood, Tsukihime and the Fate Series, Type-Moon is a company founded by famous story writer Kinoko Nasu and illustrator Takashi Takeuchi. Some characters that can be implemented include:

1715612345834.png

Artoria Pendragon: Initially making her debut in the visual novel Fate/stay night as one of the games three heroines, Saber is a Servant, a Heroic Spirit summoned to the Holy Grail War. She's a fairly iconic character who is arguably the face of the series (especially when considering the many Artoria lookalikes) and she has had several appearances on the Nintendo Switch, including a remaster of the original FSN novel.

1715612507436.png

Arcueid Brunestud: A True Ancestor and one of the heroines of Type-Moon's first VN project Tsukihime, Arcueid is arguably one of the friendliest vampires you could ever run into in video games. She, like Saber, has had some appearances on the Nintendo Switch, being playable in Melty Blood: Type Lumina and next month's release of the Tsukihime remake. Not just that, Tsukihime is considered one of the "Three Miracles of Doujin", with another being a franchise we have already, Touhou Project.

1715612757646.png

Aoko Aozaki: An all-powerful Magician known as the "Magic Gunner", Aoko is a supporting character in Tsukihime and one of the protagonists of the kinetic novel Witch On The Holy Night. Though likely not at the same level as the two mentioned beforehand, Aoko is still nonetheless a likely candidate as anyone here, with Witch on the Holy Might being on the Nintendo Switch and her being playable in Melty Blood like the others on this list.

Nihon Falcom
Legendary publisher. Actually one of the oldest still active Japanese game publishers in existence. They are credited with pioneering the action role-playing and Japanese role-playing game genres, as well as popularizing the use of personal computers in Japan. They are mainly best known for the Ys, Legend of Heroes, Dragon Slayer, and Trails series. I am aware that the majority of our thread regulars may not be all that familiar with the output of this company but I am always a fan of giving lesser known characters the spot light in rosters like this.

Some potential options include

Adol_Christin.png

Adol Christian
Protagonist of the Y's series. Adol is a an adventurer and master swordsman. He is a silent protagnist, but still has a lot of personality. He always wants to help those in need, no matter the cost. He travels from place to place, leading to a wide variety of places and characters that could be pulled from for content. He has a different moveset in pretty much every game so it would have endless potential. He would be a Swordsman, but would make heavy use of magic. Adol changes appearance pretty often so there is a lot of potential for alts. Ys is a long running and popular series that has had quite a few games on Nintendo platforms.

Estelle_Bright_(Hajimari).png

Estelle Bright
One of the three protagonists of the long running Trials series of RPG's. This series is pretty popular and has a connected story with each game. Each sub-series of games has a different protagonist and taking place in different parts around the shared fictional world. Estelle herself is the main protagonist of Trails in the Sky games, and a recurring ally in the rest of the series. Estelle wields a bo-staff and so extremely skilled with it, and has access to a variety of Orbal Arts which is this franchises equivalent of Magic. Staff users are something we really don't have in Smash yet and could make for a fun moveset.

Rean_Schwarzer_(Hajimari).png

Rean Schwarzer
Another protagonists from Trials series. Rean is the lead of the very popular Cold Steel sub- series of games. Rean is a quick swordsman who used a Tatchi blade and can also make use of magic. He could have an EP bar kind of like Hero does in Ultimate. He also has an orge form that could be worked into his moveset. This could be a kind of rage gimmick. Like Adol he changes appearance all the time so he has endless alt options.

There are others (Renne, Rixia, Dana, Lloyd, Laura, Joshua, Kevin, Mishy) but these strike me as the three who are best fitted and most likely to get in.

Company Submission: Taito Corporation

Ladies and gentlemen; the company, the myth, the legend. Founded in 1953, Taito Corporation had a long-time history and high reputation among the video game industry thanks to their large, revolutional impact ever since the golden age of arcades (even holding a huge chain of game centers in Japan). While under Square Enix's ownership these years, the company has operated independently to the point that they're completely in charge of their own projects, branding and licensing, having plenty of IPs to choose from their library for Infinite Beyond, even if representation similar to Pac-Man (classic/arcade Namco) and Terry's (SNK) wouldn't hurt with Zuntata-remixed music tracks, spirits (especially for those that are not fighter material like Arkanoid, Darius, Time Gal's Reika and Cleopatra Fortune's Patrako) and all, with a few handful examples down there.

Space Invaders:
Undoubtedly the company's most iconic title which still keeps going after about 46 years, these aliens are their flagship mascots (most particularly a crab one) who we already included as Assist Trophies from the base Infinite. If they were to be promoted, the player should control a floating UFO (Get Even's player character) as three aliens orbit around it, attacking with their antennas/tentacles, firing electric beams, summoning bunkers to protect themselves, grabbing with a tractor beam, and likely summon bigger aliens (from Extreme) in the sky as they bombard opponents as a Final Smash. You could maybe even give them a passive ability where they'll move gradually faster depending on how much they're damaged per stock, reverting back to their normal speed once defeated.

Bub and Bob (Bubble Bobble):
Also one of Taito's most famous franchises that had seen multiple releases in Nintendo's consoles (latest having been released on Nintendo Switch in 2019), many kinds of sequels and a whole spin-off series (Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move), which is also long-standing itself as of Everybubble! in May 2023. I did write a whole case around them back on Infinite's base heydays, but I'll try to give all necessary information there for these frequently pushed mascots by Taito itself. These two cute dragons can fight together akin to Ice Climbers, shooting bubbles from their mouths that they can charge into bigger ones which traps opponents, headbutting with spikes, swiping tails, using elemental bubbles (of fire, lightning and water), summoning rainbow bridges, grabbing with a parasol, floating inside a bubble themselves and firing explosive kinds with an angleable catapult. They overall would have fun potential for miscellaneous content such as music tracks and stages, with other Bubble Dragons acting as alternate palettes (and maybe human forms with Symphony's bubble flutes and parasols instead of a tail as special aesthetic costumes?).

Elevator Action Rep:
Ported to a few consoles, having multiple sequels and appearing on Taito's compilations, Elevator Action involves a secret agent entering a skyscraper as they collect documents while going down to the basement (with sequels moving to other locations such as airports and sewers). The agent's moveset could actually function differently from Snake's, besides using their trusty handgun/pistol, sub-machine guns, incendiary grenades that leave a pool of flames on the ground, rocket launchers which flies faster, a small elevator to move vertically upwards a set distance before it disappears, kicking down explosive oil drums as they roll forward and shooting an aerial lamp as it paralyzes an opponent below it. The series has different heroes who may work as costumes like Agent 17 (Otto), Returns' Kart Bradfield, Edie Burret & Jad the Taff, EX's Mike, Guy & Sarah, and Old & New's Robin, Berry & Fan.

Pocky/Sayo-chan (Pocky & Rocky/KiKi KaiKai):
Coming from a scrolling shooter series that happened to get a new installment (Pocky & Rocky Reshrined) in 2022, Pocky, or Sayo-chan in Japan, is one of Taito's most recurring characters with her cameo appearances and a young Shinto shrine maiden, who is accompanied with Rocky (a tanuki companion) as they fight against mythology-based monsters. She can swing/wave her gohei rod to strike her opponents, throw ofuda talismans as projectiles, spin around while holding out her gohei (Oharai Spin), unleash a energy blast that move outwards in waves (Bomber) and summon a magic barrier to take one hit (Magic Shield). She can also summon partners next to Rocky (who can perform tail smacks and turn into a statue to crush opponents), like Bomber Bob (throwing spiked balls/boulders), Little Ninja (who creates fire pillars), Tengy (launching leaves), Scarecrow (boomerang sickles) and Mad Dog (riding on as he charges at high speed to damage enemies).

Kage (The Legend of Kage):
A cult classic upon it's release in the arcades on 1985, a PlayStation Portable remake and a Nintendo DS sequel in 2008, the series focuses on a young Iga ninja, Kage, as he ventures to rescue Princess Kirihime from the demonic warlord Yoshiro. Given his training, Kage is rather agile and makes use of his nodachi, flaming katana in The Legend of Kage 2 and throwable shurikens, able to use ninjutsu skills like creating a clone of himself (Body Split), sending projectiles back with a parry, performing a rising kick attack (Mistblade), summoning flame pillars (Inferno), lightning bolts (Strike) and spinning ice crystals as a shield.

Sonic Blast Man:
Debuting from a 1990 "test-your-strength" arcade game which involves the player punching a mechanical pad with the glove to hit enemy targets before moving to a beat 'em up in the SNES and appearing in other games such as Puzzle Bobble 3, Sonic Blast Man is an alien superhero who protects the Earth from oncoming threats such as robbing criminals and meteors despite his clumsiness. He is trained in a large variety of fighting techniques, can perform leaping sideflips, throw opponents by spinning them around (Airplane Throw) and do powerful special attacks like Dynamite Punch/Blast Bomber (punching the ground hard enough to send enemies flying), Screw Attack (drilling forward while surrounded in energy), Comet Blaster (shooting energy balls) and Screw Bomb (leaping upwards, spinning and knocking away).

Atari

Atari-Logo.png

Ever since 1972 and founded by Nolan Bushnell, Atari is one of the most iconic names in gaming. In fact, their console, the Atari 2600 was the most popular console before the video game crash of 1983. I know we have spirits for them but they deserve a playable representative as a fighter in Super Smash Bros Infinite: Beyond. Sure, there are not many representatives but...we would have to be creative and a bit out of the box for a true, historical pick for a gaming history rep. So, here are some candidates.

Bentley Bear (Crystal Castles)

tumblr_mqk1y3xTtQ1ru6qgfo1_500.jpg

Crystal Castles is one of the first arcade games to have a distinct ending. Plus. Bentley Bear was to be Atari's mascot. Simply put it, he would be a scrimblo but could have a moveset not only showcasing the things in Crystal Castles but also all the games in Atari's library.

Adventure Cube/Dragons (Adventure)

A26_01.gif
images.png

Probably the most famous Atari game here that had the first Easter Egg in media, the cube itself or the dragons can be a prime fighter. Once again, I'm expecting them to have a Game-and-Watch-style moveset representing Atari's history.

The Centipede (Centipede)

centipede-1650079341562.jpg

Another one of the most iconic Atari games and simply was one of the most successful arcade games from the golden age. This was one of the first video games to have a significantly big female player base. The Centipede itself can have a boss-like gimmick like it does in Centipede.

Torr and Tara (Swordquest)

71Wc6Q9XgaL._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg

They would be a team fighter with some puzzle elements. Swordquest was one of the first video games to combine the narrative and logic elements of the adventure game genre alongside the earliest usage of twitch gameplay too. Thus, they seem like ambitious additions if we want a team fighter here for sure.

Overall, the descriptions are short but...Atari is simply a fun company for us to add. Sure, they may be a bit defunct but they are a legacy name in the gaming industry and deserve more representation than just spirits.

Blizzard

Blizzard is a long-running studio known for influential games such as WarCraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Vikings, and Overwatch We already have numerous Blizzard content in the game in the form of Spirits as well as Costumes such as Thrall and Kerrigan and a boss/assist trophy in Diablo but why not give Overwatch it's long overdue newcomer? Some possible characters includes the many characters of Warcraft, Kerrigan, or the fan favorite Tracer.

Here are a little bit about some key characters
1715723279410.png

Kerrigan the Queen of Knives would be an excellent and unexpected character but one I feel would clash with our more recently added Morrigan. I feel perhaps Kerrigan would do better coming later. Other possible Starcraft characters could be Lt. Morales, Raynor, Tychus, and Zeratul

1715723331624.png

Thrall from the Warcraft series would be a great addition and one that would be well-received due to his importance to the WC/WoW series though I could also see Jaina Proudmoore, Sylvanas, Arthas, and Kael'thas, Illidan, Guldan which would all be interesting additions that are set apart from the norm.

1715723793294.png

In all honestly, Diablo not being Diablo's main character is a bit... wrong but given he is a boss and assist trophy, I feel adding Diablo in a DLC run he was made available in to not work out well. Tyrael might be an interesting addition and could work well story wise. Other possible characters includes Auriel, Malthael, and Mephisto to be possible candidates.

That being said, Overwatch is in Smash via Spirits in Infinite so why not add an Overwatch character?

1715723998276.png

Tracer is the obvious character to add in and it makes sense. She is popular and an excellent character. However, like ARMS, there ins't really any "main character" and the following characters could also in theory be added: Winston, Reaper, Soldier 76, Reinhardt, Genji, Hanzo, and D.VA. Mei was added as an assist trophy in our winter DLC run.

Koei-Tecmo

A company as close to nintendo as Koei Tecmo not being on the roster at this point is very strange. They have contributed to several titles including several Warriors spinoffs, Metroid Other M, & Fire Emblem Three Houses. Sure Hayabusa is probably the favorite but the company does have several other choices that could pull an upset.

Hayabusa (the favorite, from Ninja Gaiden a popular series on NES & during its 2004-2012 revival.)

Kasumi (Dead or Alive, popular series that saved company in late 1990s. Can maybe throw her sister Ayane, or maybe even Honoka & Marie Rose into the mix who are all very popular & have guest appeared in other games more than Kasumi.)

Ryza Stout (Atelier, a series by Gust who were aquired by KT who seem to be hitting new heights particularly with Ryzas trilogy of games but maybe could throw other series protagonists into the mix.)

Miku Hinasaki (Fatal Frame/Project 0, a popular series Nintendo seems to also own a stake in, went with the 1st protagonist but other choice from more recent games like Yuri Kozukata & Ruka Minazuki could also work.)

Lu Bu (Musou/Warriors, another popular series that as mentioned before has Nintendo crossovers. Lu Bu is probably the most recognizable character. Not sure if being based on a historical figure could effect him being added. Could maybe add an original character like Orochi if we want to avoid that route.)

There are other series not mentioned such as Nights of Azure or a number of retro titles like Bomb Jack. Not sure if some their recent games like Nioh that havent hit switch would be eligible.

Level-5
Publisher and game dev who have had a close relationship with Nintendo over the years. They make all sorts of games but tend to lean towards RPG and Puzzle games but have dabbled in plenty of genres. I know their output kinda died down a bit but they have recently made a big return with new projects so I think the time is right for them to get a rep.

HershelLayton_VS.png

Professor Layton
The lead of the puzzle game series of the same name. A lot of people used to assume he was a Nintendo character considering how iconic he is to their platforms. He's getting a new game soon. I think a moveset for him could include fencing and other gentlemanly things mixed with attacks based on puzzles.

JibanyanArtwork.png

Jibanyan
Like Layton, Yokai Watch is pretty well tied to Nintendo. The series may have dipped in popularity a bit, but it was so huge for a long time. I think having this fella in a game with Pikachu and Agumon would be really fun considering the history.

Endou_Mamoru.png

Endou Mamoru
The lead of the Inazuma Eleven series. A football \ soccer RPG series. I think a soccer based moveset that mainly uses a ball could be very creative and fun.

Oliver__Ni_no_Kuni_-removebg-preview.png

Oliver
The main protagonist of the game Ni No Kuni. the game is pretty beloved and Oliver could have a fun moveset making use of the abilities and companions found in it.

other options include Lady Layton, Decapolice, Fantasy Life, and more Yokai Watch characters.

Atari

Ever since 1972 and founded by Nolan Bushnell, Atari is one of the most iconic names in gaming. In fact, their console, the Atari 2600 was the most popular console before the video game crash of 1983. I know we have spirits for them but they deserve a playable representative as a fighter in Super Smash Bros Infinite: Beyond. Sure, there are not many representatives but...we would have to be creative and a bit out of the box for a true, historical pick for a gaming history rep. So, here are some candidates.

Bentley Bear (Crystal Castles)

View attachment 389265

Crystal Castles is one of the first arcade games to have a distinct ending. Plus. Bentley Bear was to be Atari's mascot. Simply put it, he would be a scrimblo but could have a moveset not only showcasing the things in Crystal Castles but also all the games in Atari's library.

Adventure Cube/Dragons (Adventure)

View attachment 389266View attachment 389267

Probably the most famous Atari game here that had the first Easter Egg in media, the cube itself or the dragons can be a prime fighter. Once again, I'm expecting them to have a Game-and-Watch-style moveset representing Atari's history.

The Centipede (Centipede)

View attachment 389268

Another one of the most iconic Atari games and simply was one of the most successful arcade games from the golden age. This was one of the first video games to have a significantly big female player base. The Centipede itself can have a boss-like gimmick like it does in Centipede.

Torr and Tara (Swordquest)

View attachment 389270

View attachment 389328
Kerrigan the Queen of Knives would be an excellent and unexpected character but one I feel would clash with our more recently added Morrigan. I feel perhaps Kerrigan would do better coming later. Other possible Starcraft characters could be Lt. Morales, Raynor, Tychus, and Zeratul

Like Layton, Yokai Watch is pretty well tied to Nintendo. The series may have dipped in popularity a bit, but it was so huge for a long time. I think having this fella in a game with Pikachu and Agumon would be really fun considering the history.

View attachment 389292
Endou Mamoru
The lead of the Inazuma Eleven series. A football \ soccer RPG series. I think a soccer based moveset that mainly uses a ball could be very creative and fun.

Oliver
The main protagonist of the game Ni No Kuni. the game is pretty beloved and Oliver could have a fun moveset making use of the abilities and companions found in it.

other options include Lady Layton, Decapolice, Fantasy Life, and more Yokai Watch characters.
