Event Rulesets

Smash 4 Singles:
  • Stock and time are set to 2 stock and 7 minutes
  • Items are set to "off" and "none"
  • Customs are set to "off"
  • Mii Fighters are legal, and you may set up or transfer them before the tournament, if available.
  • If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
  • You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.

For those who are new to the competitive Super Smash Bros. scene, this is how a set between two players should look like:
  1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match*
  2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure
  3. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
  4. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
  5. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
  6. The winner of the previous match bans three stages to be disallowed to be picked, then;
  7. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from the remaining stages
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match
Smash 4 Doubles:
  • Team Attack is set to ON
  • Stock and time are set to 3 stock and 8 minutes
  • Share Stock is allowed
All other rules apply as Smash 4 Singles
Melee Singles:
  • 4 stocks, 8 minutes
  • Wobbling is legal
  • Yo-Yo Glitch is legal
  • Freeze Glitch is banned
  • Starters: Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, Final Destination, Battlefield, Dreamland 64
  • Counterpicks: Pokemon Stadium
  • No stage bans in Best of 5 Set (Grandfinals, Winners Finals, and Losers Finals).
If there are any questions, call over a judge!
Stage List:
You must follow the stage striking system to determine the starter stage, but if both players agree to play on a particular stage they can skip this step. In this system, players take turns striking stages from the stage list until only one remains. The first person to strike a stage can be determined by Rock-Paper-Scissors.
Singles:
Playable Stages:
Battlefield
Final Destination *
Delfino Plaza
Lylat Cruise
Castle Siege
Town and City
Smashville
Duck Hunt
Wuhu Island
Dreamland 64
MYSTERY STAGE - To be announced soooOOOoon

All other stages are banned.

*Players may agree to substitute Final Destination for Omega stages Game 1 if both players agree to it. In games 2-5, the counterpicking player may substitute Final Destination for an Omega of their choice.
After each match, the winning player may choose to ban 3 stages from the stage list.
In a set of Best of 5 (aka Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals), players 3 stage bans last the entire set and can't be changed.
The Loser of the match then selects their "counterpick" stage. Repeat this step for each subsequent match of the set.
'Daves Stupid Rule' is in effect - A player cannot choose a stage they won on earlier in the set.
You may pick a stage that you yourself banned earlier in the set.

General Rules
· Mages DQ Rule:
2 Minutes Late – Warning
4 Minutes Late – Loss of first match of set
6 Minutes Late – Loss of set
· All tournaments are double elimination, best 2 out of 3. Winners Finals, Losers Finals, and Grand Finals are all 3/5 and the winner of the Losers Bracket must win 2 sets in order to win, because the winner of the Winners Bracket has yet to lose a set.
· Please try and keep the yelling down. The Boys and Girls Club are nice enough to use their amazing facilities, so try and give the smash community a good impression. We want to make this a recurring tournament!
· Same as the above, try to avoid swearing. It would be appreciated, as we have younger players attend these frequently.
· Smoking is unallowed. If you must, take a walk down the block, but please keep it off the premise. If you catch someone smoking, please report it!
· Controller mods of ANY kind (short-hop mod, L-trigger mod, etc), except for cosmetic changes (paint job, different colored plastic), are banned. If you are caught using a banned controller you will be disqualified from the tournament.
· Money Matches and friendlies: Keep in mind tournament games take priority over you. Try to get them out of the way during the startup of the tournament and in between breaks. Once the tournament has progressed specific setups will be open for friendlies and money matches.
· Let a staff member know if you leave the venue for whatever reason (Food, etc.).

Setups

To benefit from the free venue fee by bringing a setup, your setup must be complete. A complete setup is a Wii U w/SSb4 and a GameCube adapter, and the game must have all characters/stages unlocked.

Additional things to look forward to at the tournament venue are the following:
  • 2 Pool tables.
  • 2 Foosball tables.
  • A Ping Pong table.
  • Vending Machines.
  • Numerous seats, including couches!
  • A concession stand selling food & more!
  • Halloween music, costumes, and candy.

If you have ANY questions, either post in the thread or contact me through email. Only call my cell on the day of the tournament for last minute questions/directions, please.
Get hyped!

Important news! Read the message posted on the Facebook page below:

Time for the Smashua Dojo! This is important, so read on below:

Smashua is embracing the spirit of Halloween fully, and as such we have a few features about the upcoming event that we wanted to share with you all.

First off, we'll talk about costumes! Anyone who comes to Smashua: MONSTER SMASH in a costume (preferably Smash related wink wink) will receive a raffle ticket. Everyone with said raffle ticket will have the chance of winning some cool prizes, something we haven't done for some time - you guys have earned a little holiday bonus heart emoticon

Second... WE HAVE CREATED A MONSTER! We have dropped the stage list to 11 stages and have temporarily replaced Halberd with a Halloween stage to fully embrace this special time of year. We decided that Gamer and Luigi's Mansion are simply too crazy, so we crafted our own stage that will be tournament legal in Smashua: MONSTER SMASH.

Castle Dracula is a legal stage for Smash 4 Doubles and Smash 4 Singles.

Read more about it in the Smashua Dojo below:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mhzZppF574wWJG4cb88oTXa556cO3ND9F8rniUbqKms/pub

Anyone can download Castle Dracula by adding the NNID: "Nappums", and going online -> to the Share menu, and selecting custom stages of your friends. We will also be releasing an indepth video & some example matches to give everyone a taste of the stage.

Finally, I wanted to share one last note, and it's an important one: If you bring a setup, you must have Castle Dracula to qualify for free venue. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a complete setup and would be similar to not having Dreamland downloaded.

To further incentivize this, we are also giving an additional raffle ticket to everyone who brings a complete setup to the venue. This means that if you arrive in costume and bring a complete setup that has Castle Dracula downloaded you will have no venue fee and double the chances to win some awesome prizes. Sweet!

If you have any questions, feel free to message me or comment below. We want this to be a really fun Halloween tournament, so we will try and accommodate the best we can!

See you all soon!

wasn't able to attend this one, how did it go?
Best Smashua yet! Largest turnout of the series despite 3 other tournaments on the same day. Each event ran smoothly, and we had only minor issues. Halloween music was a great touch, and seeing all the costumes was cool.

We streamed and commentated this one, and that was one of the biggest highlights! Really well done.

Finally, the Custom stage was a huuuge success, and I got a ton of positive feedback on it. You can find matches on the stream.

Wish you could have made it!
