Atlantic South Winter Garden Melee Weekly @ Lucky Straws

Friday evenings we host Melee singles, doubles (or PM singles, we alternate every week), and an amateur bracket (if time allows) at Lucky Straws Boba Tea of Winter Garden. ******The venue is located between the hair cuttery and the kids pediatric (two stores left of Publix).******

Friendlies start at 5:00pm (players are there all day on Fridays, check Winter Garden Smash FB group)
Signups close at 6:25pm for doubles (or PM singles)
Signups close at 7:25pm for singles
Doubles tournament will start around ~6:30pm (or PM Singles)
Singles tournament will start around ~7:30pm
Amateur tournament will start ~8:30pm

This is the fee schedule:
Venue Fee - $4
Each event (except amateur): $3
Melee Amateur Bracket Entry Fee - $1

Totals (including venue fee):
ONE event - $7
TWO events - $10
THREE events - $13
Friendlies - Free

Payout will be ~60/30/10 for singles, and winner-take-all for doubles (this may change in the near future), and ~70/30 for the amateur bracket (depending on # of entrants). We use whole-dollar amounts, exact change is not given.

For any questions about rules refer to the Apex 2015 ruleset. Winners Finals, Losers Finals, & GF are best of 5.

Amateur bracket
------------------
This includes all non-PR players who placed in the bottom half of the singles bracket (rounded up). This is a side tournament and has a $1 entry fee. No other entrants are allowed - this is due to time constraints. If there isn't an even split between placings (for example 3 players got 13th place) the initial seeding will be used to also seed the amateur bracket. Entrants accepted are up to the discretion of the T.Os.

Miscellaneous rules:
--------------------------------
1.) Vaping is allowed, but be respectful and mindful of others. No "dragon clouds" or breathing directly onto other players or towards setups. Vape towards the front of the venue and away from others if possible.

2.) Friendlies are allowed at all times on designated friendlies setups. A friendly setup is designated by the T.O.s or it can be a participant's own setup (not provided by Winter Garden Smash).

Friendlies are NOT allowed on tournament setups until the setup has been cleared for friendlies. Do NOT delay reporting scores just to play more friendlies, you may be DQd if you are caught doing this!

3.) Money matches are allowed under the following circumstances: Both you and your opponent are not in bracket (eliminated or not participating) AND you are on a designated friendlies setup, OR there are no tournaments running. Repeat offenders result in DQs for both you and your opponent or a ban on all money matches during tournament. Maybe we'll confiscate the money and put it on a wall of shame with your tag

4.) The winner(s) of a match are required to report their tag and the score to a TO/Bracket runner at the desk.

The T.Os will be regularly patrolling the setups to make sure everything is going smoothly... please help us ensure the tournament moves quickly so we can have more friendlies and so people who need to leave early can do so. We don't want to DQ/Ban/yell at people, we hate doing it. We have a list of names of people who have been doing this nearly every weekly and are keeping an eye on you...

Definitely come out! Check out our Facebook group, as that is updated MUCH more frequently. If you come out today around 4:30PM one of our best local players will be at the venue for training.

i have to wait till friday to go and i meant have someone from the other go with me for doubles and i will do singles too

ill have to wait till firday to come plus i am going to the one tomorrow that i always go to

Sorry that I can't go probably won't for a while I have no ride and the guy that will take couldn't because he had go out of state and when he gets back most likely around end of spring we go and do doubles and also singles for melee

ya kirito, if you ever can go you'll love it, youll learn so much and get to play with some more experienced smash 4 and melee players, ive been there once and had fun, take that opprutunity to practice those f air walls with marth like i said ;3

Oh hey it's you man I want to go but I never had a ride I would ask but you live so far way but hey tell me if your going one week then I see if I can maybe we can team for doubles

I try and see if I can go then that sounds like a lot fun plus pm is what got me into this and helped me with getting good at melee

hey.. I was wondering if there's any N64 smash that gets played at these events? I've been looking around but it doesn't look like anybody plays N64 Super Smash anymore...

Hey I'll be going today can't wait to have a melee bracket were there is more than 6 people lol

Nvm I can't go because my laptop gave me the wrong address but then I used my phone and I found out it's actually two hours way so no I can't ever go

I've been meaning to go to a tournament for a while now, but haven't found a place close enough. Lucky I found this place as it's very close to where I live. I'm just afraid that when I go i'm going to get rekt or have to play Plup the first round because I'm not very good at the game yet. Hope to stop by soon.

S SleepyBeaver , we have an amateur tournament for that reason - gives the less experienced players another shot at getting more matches. You may end up going 0-4 but hey, that's where everyone starts! This week is doubles so you could enter in that instead of singles if you wish. You have to enter in singles bracket and place in the lower half to make it into the amateur bracket (and there's an additional $1 fee).

The right attitude isn't "I'm going to get rekt", it's "I'm going to get tips from better players". Good luck!!

Btw, we also do Smash4 on Saturdays!

Thanks for the advice! I really want to improve and I know i'm going to have to lose a lot before I can get any better.

Hopefully I'll be there next week because I won't be able to make it this friday. Just bring money and a controller?

I unfortunately don't have Smash 4 for the Wii U, I only have it on my 3ds. Would it be worth it to play friendlies anyway?

Not that it matters but, I'm for sure going to the next tourney this Friday, and I was wondering if we're gonna see leffen's eternal nightmare there(Plup of course). Not that it matters, i just thought It would be cool to know.
