Dr. Mario/Mario/Luigi Lock

Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U
Welcome!
Hi guys! This is tdw0890ops here, and I have learned a new lock technique against

heavy characters, fast-fallers, and people who can't tech. Let me just remind you that

Dr. Mario, Mario, and Luigi can do this. They range at different percents for each

available character. Without further ado, let's begin... (FYI, I did all of this on Training,

so percents can be different when you go online. This lock combo can only start at

the beginning because if they go over the required percent for the Throw tech to work, they could jump, attack, or tech out of it. )

Stuff to go through...
Oh yeah, just so that we can get this out of the way:
  • Jigglypuff,
  • Kirby,
  • G&M,
  • Toon Link,
  • Luigi,
  • Ness,
  • Villager,
  • Olimar,
  • Lucas
CANNOT get into this combo. (I don't have all of the characters, Like Cloud,
Ryu and Mewtwo.)
The reason is that they are too light. You can't get this on Luigi
because he's too slippery, And the other characters take more than two seconds to land. Also, there are some characters that I had to alter the combos with.

You can do it on:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Bowser
  • Yoshi
  • Rosalina & Luma
  • Bowser Jr.
  • Wario
  • Donkey Kong
  • Diddy Kong
  • Little Mac
  • Link
  • Zelda
  • Sheik
  • Ganondorf
  • Samus
  • ZSS
  • Pit
  • Palutena
  • Marth
  • Ike
  • Robin
  • Duck Hunt
  • King Dedede
  • Meta Knight
  • Fox
  • Falco
  • Pikachu
  • Charizard
  • (Lucario but not recommended)
  • Greninja
  • R.O.B.
  • Captain Falcon
  • Wii Fit Trainer
  • Shulk
  • Dr. Mario
  • Dark Pit
  • Lucina
  • Pac-Man
  • Mega Man
  • Sonic
  • Roy
  • Bayonetta
If you want to see if any of these tech's work then you only have to choose from either Dr. Mario, Mario, or Luigi. The reason why is because Mario, Dr. Mario, and Luigi all have the same knockback on their F-throw.

Lets start on how you can get the combo started Starting with...

Dr. Mario

Dr. Mario is really slow, so he might be able to lock, but only hit about once or twice. For the percents, I went against Ganondorf.

Dr. Mario can start the lock combo using two things:
Two U-Tilts, (14% of damage)
or an Spaced U-Smash. If you are going to use a Spaced U-Smash, Try to aim at his Doctor Light. (15% of damage)

Then F-throw to either:
Dash, SH, Neutral Special to an F-tilt, (From 15%) (22% of damage)
on some characters you can walk up and F-tilt (From 15%) (16% of damage)
or, on some characters like Ganondorf, and R.O.B., Dash, SH, Neutral Air, to an F-tilt. (From 15%) (25% of damage)

After the Forced Get-up, you can:
SH U-Air to D-tilt D-throw to an aerial combo,(From 37 (ranges to 25~35% of damage)
D-throw to an aerial combo, (from 37%) (ranges to 15~25% of damage, depending on what you do)

On most of the characters listed you can only hit them once or twice. But, on:
Ganondorf,
Bowser,
King Dedede,
Donkey Kong,
Charizard,
Lucario,
and R.O.B. you can land three on them by using another F-tilt. Does about 30% of damage. (With Lucario, you have to angle the second F-tilt downwards)

Next is...

Mario
Mario can do the same thing as Dr. Mario, except he has to do more damage to have the opponent be in a throw lock percent. But, he has more options to lock. For the percents, I went against Pac-Man.

Mario can do:
Two U-tilts to Jab 1 and 2 (15% of damage)
a close, quick, U-smash, (14% of damage)
or Two Sour D-tilts to Jab 1 (12% of damage)

After that, F-throw to:
(This might sound confusing) Forward moving SH Neutral Special to Two Jab 1's (From 14%) (18% of damage)
(This might sound confusing)Forward moving SH Neutral Special to F-tilt(From 14%) (20% of damage)
Dash to F-tilt (From 14%) (15% of damage)
Dash to Three Jab 1's. (From 14%) (15% of damage)
Since Mario goes faster than Dr. Mario, he can lock most of the characters three times.

After that, you are able to do as you please. You might:
D-throw to U-Smash (From 29%) (19% of damage)
D-tilt to F-Smash (From 29%) (22% of damage)
(IDK why anyone would do this) F-air to F-smash (From 29%) (28% of damage)
(If they miss their tech again) F-air to Two Jab 1's to F-throw to F-air (From 29%) (41% of damage)

(If they miss their tech again) F-air to Two Jab 1's to D-throw to U-air to DJ N-air (From 29%) (Sour 36% Sweet 44%)

Or, if you are at the end of the stage, you might do a quick F-Smash (From 29%) (Sour 14% Sweet 17%)

And Finally...

Luigi
Luigi kinda has a mixture of both Dr. Mario and Mario. Luigi has the highest amount of locking capabilities, the easiest one to do it, and does the most devastating damage, and can possibly kill some characters, if they are at the ledge. For the percentages, I went against a Wario.

Luigi can:
Nair to F-throw (21% of damage)
Two U-tilts to F-throw (21% of damage)
or a Spaced U-Smash to F-throw (23% of damage)

From the F-throw, you can:
Dash to Neutral Special to F-tilt (From 14%) (23% of damage)
Dash to Neutral Special to Two F-tilts(From 14%) (31% of damage)
Dash to Neutral Special to D-tilt (From 14%) (23% of damage)
Dash to Two Neutral Specials (From 14%) (21% of damage)
Walk up to Two F-tilts (From 14%) (25% of damage)
Walk up to F-tilt (From 14%) (17 % of damage)
Walk up to D- tilt (From 14%) (17% of damage)
(On some characters)
Dash to Neutral Special to D-tilt (From 14%) (23% of damage)
Dash to Neutral Special to D-tilt to F-tilt (From 14%) (31% of damage)

From there you can do whatever you want. You could:
D-throw to Two F-airs (From 37%) (22% of damage)
D-throw to U-air to U-air (From 37%) (28% of damage)
SH U-air to D-throw to U-air to U-air (From 37%) (39% of damage)
SH U-air to D-throw to F-air to U-air *might need to use DJ U-air*(From 37%) (36% of damage)
SH U-air to U-tilt to U-smash (From 37%) (31% of damage)
(If at the ledge) D-throw to D-air (From 37%) (Sweet 27% Sour 25%)
(if at the ledge) U-tilted F-Smash (From 37%) (No punish 15%)
Wait for the force get-up and Up Special (Depending on what you do, It might be a clean 60% or more)

Sounds great huh? But there are a few thing you need to know... Such as...

Percent Qualifications

For most of the characters, they start to tumble from the F-throw at about 10-15%. Bowser, on the other hand, starts at 14-20%

Problems
The only problem this lock has is that:
People could be able to tech it. But if they do, follow them with a N-air.

Some characters, Like Bayonettas' Witch Time, Sonic's Up Special, Or Pac-Man's N-air. Can break out of the U-tilt really easily. Especially Bayonetta Since she can Up Special, Side Special and Down Special out of it.

Fast-fallers, like Fox and Sheik, fall to the ground really fast. So sometimes, you might miss the projectile because they could get up faster. Luigi's fireballs can hit them no problem, but you can't dash, resulting with a one-hit lock.

Some characters positions on the ground are really low, so sometimes, Dr. Mario and Mario can't hit them with their projectiles. However, Luigi's fireballs, again, can hit them no problem.

So, If you understand the qualifications and the problems, you should have no problem doing it. But what about getting out of it? Well It's simple...

How to get out of the tech
If the character you are using has a Frame 4 or faster move, Use it. It will get you out of any Dr. Mario, Mario, and Luigi's Up tilts.
But if you don't and you get thrown:
:GCRT: Dont know what's that saying? It's saying to TECH THE LANDING. If you do that then they can't do the throw lock any more, since if they throw you again you are given more than 2 seconds to land.

Extra Details
Ganondorf gets the worst out of this tech. Since he has gained some weight (If I am right) He is able to be hit by:
Dr. Mario's Dash SH Neutral Special to Two F-tilts.
Mario's: Forward moving SH Neutral Special to Two F-tilts
Luigi's Dash Neutral Special to F-tilt to D-tilt

Here's a Link to an example of me, Using Dr. Mario doing the lock combo against a Ganondorf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6M7p4NNgFY (Starts at 0:20)
Have fun experimenting with this. If you want, send me some clips and then I can probably put them in a video compilation of it. My Youtube Channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxWKHCd0CoOHHGu5NqfLq2Q

Closure
Thank you for reading this guide and tell me what I am missing. If anyone in the comments can tell me if Mewtwo, Ryu, or Cloud can or cannot be in the throw tech This is all you need to do:

Go on training,
Pick either Mario, Dr. Mario, or Luigi
Pick either Mewtwo, Ryu, or Cloud
Go to an Omega stage, or go to FD
Do the list above
Tell me in the comments if they land in less than 2 seconds.
Thank you so much for reading and have a nice day!
