Step 1: Go to your profile's personal details.
Step 2: Go to the "Smash 3DS Main" section or the "Smash Wii U Main" section if you have that version.
Step 3: Choose Pac-Man from the drop-down list.
Step 4: Save changes.
Congratulations you are now a Pac-Man main. Now I give you this short quiz.
Here is a typical Smashboards user:
Mains (In no particular order):
Secondaries:
For Funsies :
Question Time! What is wrong with the above profile? Is it:
A. Not enough Mains?
B. X character isn't on here?
C. Wait, This is my profile. What are you trying to say Splebel!?
Well by the end of this guide you will know what the answer is by yourself so I won't spoil the surprise. Now let us begin with the meat of the guide, The 5 Stages of being a Pac-Man Main!
Stage 1: The New Guy
This is the guy who looked at Pac-Man either in a video or just a picture or someone told them about him or whatever and said, "I want to main him." So if this is you then congratulations on picking Pac-Man as a main. Here are some tips to get started.
Tip 1: Finding the right alt to use.
These are Pac-Man's alternate costumes:
Gaze at their splendor
Pac-Man has 8 alts: Original Recipe, Mild Blue, Thunder Yellow, Bodacious Black, Perfectly Purple, Bleach White, Spandex Pac, and Oven Mitts. There is no green so quit asking Gary. Now unlike some other characters there are no wrong choices on which alt to choose except for Purple Pac. He's bad luck. Also don't pick Yellow Pac because he's already yellow. Why would they make a yellow alt but no green alt? It makes no sense!
Tip 2: Knowing when to use the right taunt.
At this stage of being a Pac-Main most of your matches will probably be with friends or in For Glory so you need to know when you should use what taunt and here are the list of acceptable taunts:
1. Up taunt
2. Down Taunt
3. Side Taunt
4. Jumping
5. Sleeping (If you could somehow pull that off)
6. Doing the Idle animation of giving the thumbs up
7. Doing the idle animation of scratching his head
Just like any move, knowing when to taunt is crucial to any stage 1 Pac-Main. These are self-explanatory so I won't go into any detail but the power of the down taunt is sacred and should only be used in the most conservative of circumstances.
So you've played around with Pac-Man and want to keep him as a main and add him to your ever growing list of mains. What do you do now? I'll tell you. You move on to stage 2!
Stage 2: The Honeymoon Phase
Let's look at this again:
Mains (In no particular order):
Secondaries:
For Funsies :
Now you may think, "To become stage 2 I need to make Pac-Man higher on my main list." But I'm here to tell you that, that's wrong. You need to tweek the list so it looks like this:
Mains (In no particular order):
Secondaries:
For Funsies :
Now there are exceptions to this rule that I will state in later stages but to get to stage 2, you must become one with Pac-Man. That means playing him ALL. THE. TIME.
Now that you have done that, you will think Pac-Man is the greatest character ever and play him in every way you can think of. He has no faults in your eyes and if there is a weakness you will either blame it on your lack of skill or other characters for being too "Cheap." Once you realize that Pac-Man is not perfect you are ready to move on to stage 3.
Stage 3: Growing Pains
Now that you realize that Pac-Man has weaknesses, you can do one of two things. Work around the weaknesses or use secondaries! But Spebel I hear you say (I hear you Gary, geez), You just said no secondaries. Right, I did, but at this stage you should feel like you know more than me and think I don't know what I'm talking about. So even though you won't listen to me, here are the approved list of secondaries for Pac-Man.
(Only the yellow one)and I almost forgot
So once you decide on a secondary, now you need to know what Matchups to use Pac-Man in and when to use his secondaries in. Here is a comprehensive list of what Matchups you should use.
Use Pac-Man in: All the ones Pac-Man would win
Use someone else: All the ones Pac-Man would lose
Just follow that and you will be fine. I would write it down somewhere safe so it can be accessed in case of emergency.
This list is a dynamic list and can follow these two formulas:
Formula 1: # of Characters in List Pac-Man can beat = # of All characters - # of characters you lost a match against as Pac-Man.
Formula 2: # of Characters you lost a match against as Pac-Man * 1.
Eventually enough people will get on the second list that you are ready to move onto stage 4.
Stage 4: The Test
This is the phase where you try to main one of those secondaries you picked. This is a must needed event in a Pac-Main's life. This phase can last for 5 minutes or for longer but keep in mind that the longer you stay in this phase the more likely to go down the "Dark Path." Only you can take the test alone and only you can be guided to a path. There are 3 Paths you can take
Path 1: The Dark Path
The Dark Path is when you decide to main someone else indefinitely and abandon Pac-Man altogether. You may play him for fun but you have abandoned him when he needed you the most.
Path 2: The False Path
The False Path is a temporary path that happens whenever a new patch comes out. You think Pac-Man got buffed (He didn't) and you gleefully try him out and think he was buffed and is now top tier, but then reality hits and you are crushed and dejected and that just drives you further to the Dark Path.
Path 3: The Enlightened Path
The Enlightened Path is when you realize that Pac-Man is the only character you truly enjoy no matter whether you win or lose and go back to solely maining Pac-Man. You escape and move on to stage 5.
Stage 5: Ascension
You have done it. You have ascended the temptations of other characters and have rejected them as secondaries, but still keep them for fun because Pac-Man all the time can get a bit tiring in long stretches. You have then realized that I was right the whole time and you would like to apologize (It's too late Gary). I hope you continue your adventures with Pac-Man and defend him whenever anyone talks smack about him no matter how right they are.
Start - Do you like Pac-Man? "Yes" go to 1. "No" go to 2.
1. Do you like to win? "Yes" go to 3. "No" go to 4.
2. Well Pac-Man doesn't like you either. You might be better off with a different character. END.

6. Do you like to have a smile on your face almost all the time? "Yes" go to 7. No go here.
7. Do you like the color yellow? "Yes" go to 8. "No" too bad; go to 8.
8. Do you like simplistic designs? "Yes" go to 9. No go here.
9. Do you like Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures? "Yes" Really? I don't believe you. But you should main Pac-Man. END. "No" I agree with you. Go to 10.
10. Do you like to be that guy whenever you show up people go "Geez it's the Pac-Man player. Pac-Man is so weird."? "Yes" Congratulations you should main Pac-Man. END. "No" then you my friend should main this character instead. END.
