    Someone answer this with honesty: even though I know the challenges that come with maining Marth, is it still wrong to prefer to play him over Lucina?

    Not a marth main but. I don't think there is anything wrong with that considering Lucina is his echo fighter. Its like preferring Daisy over Peach. Or Samus over Dark Samus

    In Smash 4, Lucina was the most pointless character to exist because Marth could do everything better. However, from what I gather (I haven't played Ultimate), it's much harder to land Marth's tip in Ultimate because 1: The mechanics are different and game is faster, 2: Not everyone's movement options are trash like in 4, and 3: Marth's tip is the same size as it was in 4. Unless almost all your hits are tipped in Ultimate, you won't average as much damage as Lucina. But I still think there's nothing "wrong" with maining Marth.
