From a competitive standpoint, I'd recommend Gamecube controller 100%.

Awesome, another one of THESE threads. Melee's legacy is undeniable and the game definitely lives on. Personally I prefer melee over brawl, but both games are great, hell Smash is just amazing in general. Isn't that why these boards exist?

I use X for normal jumping and SHFFLing and such, and tap jump for combos out of grabs or tilts.

In brawl, approaching is the most dangerous thing you can do in a competitive environment. This was picked up early by the smash community, and now, if there is to be any improvement to the metagame, this improvement will go towards the defensive or "gay" aspects that everyone (including me)...

Brawl rewards spamming. Basically any character with projectiles will have to spam them in order to maintain spacing.
