As Lucario I seem to have a lot of trouble against my buddies squirtle. Any tips or tricks specific to this matchup? Or any tips just fighting squirtle in general?

Very, but not in the same way that say fox is technically demanding. The inputs you have to do to pull off sick **** as Lucario are pretty easy to accomplish. Learning what attacks fit the situation the best is much harder to figure out on Lucario compared to other characters.

So we all know how simple it is to do an extreme speed hog from on stage. However, when I try to grab the right ledge sometimes I just fall and don't grab ledge. I can't seem to figure out why it occurs occasionally. Anyone know the reason?

The forcepalm has a 6 frame start up, depending who you are playing as you can do an OOS option at that time or buffer a roll. Also if you are CC his attacks you can attack him in between too if you have a good dtilt

Run at enemy, jump overthem. While you are above them dair into forcepalm. Great for screwing with their shield because there is no way out of the forcepalm if the dair hits the shield at all And if they don't shield the dair you get free damage into a forcepalm. A great mixup to the usual...
