When you hold down a button it doesn't gaurantee that you will go to Target Test or something.
It's pretty much like voting for a stage to go to. Like you pick Target test, P2 picks Final Destination, P3 picks Battlefield, P4 picks Smashville. So now there is a 25% percent chance that you will go on Target Test with everyone else. I hope i explained that right. -_-

If your game freezes, it's not the end of the world. Don't worry about your Wii breaking down. My game freezes a lot and I'm fine. You could just try it if you'd like.
