I always hold the developer's intentions above all else when playing a game.
In fact, just yesterday I was playing Devil May Cry 2 and thought it was absolutely awful. But then I remembered the developers having said in an interview that they intended the game to be fun, and I immediately started enjoying it!
The developers really do always know best!
