  • Yo QERB, as anyone with any know, knows; game and watch is the future. However promising he is as a character against fast-fallers and heavy weights, are there any good hit confirms at mid-high percent against floaties and lighter characters other than d-throw. Does jab actually combo into anything? Because the hitbox always seems kind of ****ed up and tends to just not pop people up sometimes.

    I assume your best bet after landing an up/down tilt is to perhaps waveland onto a platform and go for a punish on their landing. Also it seems you can land a backair while rising into first hit of upair, have you used this before?

    Even Armada said recently that G&W is potentially the most underrated character in the game and i have agreed ever since trying to emulate some of the things you do, unfortunately not enough people are innovating and experimenting with him, id love to see that change though.
    How do you play game and watch in the g&w fox MU, i've lost my past 6 matches in this match up.
    Hey Qerb, seeing your games vs. HBox at Apex was the kick to get me wanting to play melee. I only play with one friend really who is significantly better than me, and he mains Cpt Falcon. Any tips on G&W vs Falcon ?

    crouch under his jc grab, d-throw cg easy to react to after like 35-40%, also can auto combo into sh f-air at most %'s. Goal is to always get falcon off stage as fast as possible. up-tilt is a counter approach to falcon's aerials. n-air usually covers all of falcon's recovery options. use pan in the neutral on large stages like fd and stadium:

    i think g&w vs ness is pretty even. played a bunch of friendlies with hbox at BMR and we were going pretty back and forth. That matchup really favors the player who hits with their respective f-air.

    I think g&w has a strong advantage against DK. It's hard for dk to approach against g&w's f-air and sausage. Also hard for DK to recover since g&w can go far off stage. Although, DK does get really good followup off his cargo throw.
    Hey Qerb. Finally decided to stick to my roots from elementary school and main Game & Watch. No more Fox for me in 1v1s. :>
    So many Falco mains in the midwest though. The matches usually do not last very long and I tend to get stuck in place > easy combo'd because of lasers.

    So what do I do against Falco? I thought of using well placed u.tilts to stuff mindless approaches, but that is all that comes to mind.

    Some other cool things you can do to throw off falco's spacing are:

    If you get hit by a laser, you can SDI the laser away, and then WAVELAND back to a distance where you can punish his expected followup. This is a reallllly essential thing to learn against falco IMO. It will make him afraid to approach at all, making him more predictable.

    Up-tilt is good, but it's frame 9 which is a little too slow, so don't use overly often. I like using it while I'm behind falco's shield as a prediction that he'll try to jump oos.

    Oh, wow, thanks! Did not think to SDI the lasers that way, but it does make sense when you put it like that.

    Also, you are the only reason I play melee. Was strictly 64 till I seen ya. bought a cube, and now im frying sausages with the best. So thank you, Aaron.

    I'm in northern Mass, and work 3-11pm weekdays so id never make a break unless it was on weekend or I took a sick day. Either way, ill be watching. Good luck sir, until we meet.

    against doc make sure to have port priority. it affects how his d-throw mechanics work. abuse the fact that your f-air outranges all of his moves period. Try to stay near center stage so you don't get cape-gimped early on, recover high when possible.
    against mario, same thing, but be wary of his f-smash range, since it outranges all of our ground attacks. try to keep him above you, and be prepare to tech his d-throw.

    against Roy just ban FD and strike FD/FoD. The matchup is not that hard overall, and you can platform camp him pretty effectively. Just be wary of shield stabbing f-smash, try to stay out of his strong f-smash range. Get him above you and keep him there. Challenge his recovery with off stage aerials when plausible.

    Fox is hard. I have a guide in the g&w matchup discussion. Lemme know if you need any specifics :D
    Yo QERB! What are some relatively unknown techniques that Game and Watch has that could be used in competitive play? Doesn't matter if it's incredibly obscure, as long as you think that the technique/glitch would be useful in some cases

    I was wondering if you do any netplays matches with your fans. I'd love to get advises about how I play as of now (I'm practicing every day as game and watch) and know what things I'm doing wrong just so I could get better. With my all time favorite, ****ty-shield, get-KO'd-in-1.5second-by-Marths of a character. :(

    yo! i don't play netplay unfortunately. i do have a lot of matches recorded against marth however, and i think i'm decent at the m/u. I have a bunch of matches on youtube against C!Z and The Moon that you could check out to give you a solid idea.
    well all i know is 2.5 feels alot more like melee, i had player the version prior and there was still input lag, they beefed G Dubbs alot, made his judgment hammer alot better, and all his moves l cancellable, I also found a trick to escape mario's cape, since G dubbs can attack out of his upb, if you do a quick aerial like dair or fair while being caped, u can immediately get another upb in, sometimes you can if he capes you wrong but if you use an attack you can upb right away, his combos are pretty amazing you should try it out.
    We got some discussing to do about Game and Watch's Double-Dair or Dair-Fair or Dair-Bair or even Dair-Uair in the air. I'll make the thread and post some videos of what I'm talking about.

    I'm thinking this untouched ability has Combo potential and can be used for Mind Gaming opponents.

    You know that you could Dair and jump again before you land on the floor right?

    Thanks! and Oh yeah, expect another video. It will be about a incident I had when I was 9 or 10 years old. It relates to the trailer/ combo video, and why I main him + why I picked up Mewtwo as one of my secondaries.

    i actually haven't checked any local tourneys since it's hard to travel right now cuz of my knee /= def let me know if you're going to one though i'll try my best to go. (if it has melee though haha)
