chess person! awesome!
I knew a guy that would resign if he traded queens. He was like a queen pro, and if he wasn't playing a game with queens involved, he wasn't nearly as good.
He could probably beat me without his queen though. I was 12 and he was 67ish.
I think about chess and smash comparisons a lot... do you think a sacrifice could truly exist in smash, taking damage for the sake of board position? Keep in mind i'm not suggesting getting hit by GW's turtle just to DI out and punish it, that's analogous to trading pieces in chess. I'm thinking more about something that improves the smash players position in an uncertain way, at the cost of damage, like a daring board position sacrifice.
Example: Snake sees a Wolf blaster shot coming, but sets a C4 anyway and gets hit during the after lag. The improved strategic advantages Snake gains ultimately profit him. (even if he never lands a hit with that C4)
This would be analogous to sacrificing a piece in a way that pulls away your opponent's control of the center, hoping it will benefit you later. (actually saccing a pawn, Wolf's blaster is a drop in the bucket)
