One Year of Sm4sh: General Retrospective Thread

It's been pretty much like I expected- a better Brawl. We didn't get some DLC characters that I really wanted (Sora :(), but it's overall been a wonderful smash game so far. I think calling it a "better Brawl" undermines how much I've enjoyed it given the connotations Brawl has, but I was...

    Clouds first impressions thread.

Cloud is fun. His Little Mac-tier recovery is kind of a bummer. The fact that it's vertical instead of horizontal seems to make it a lot better than it would be otherwise, but it's still a drag, and the accidental SDs are real. His Aerials all seem really good, almost like explicitly better...

Which Tier Would You Put Cloud In As of Now?

"It's been like 3 days, give it some goddamn time"-tier.

Does Melee Have Better Balance Than PM?

No. Balance was never the appeal behind Melee, and no good players fool themselves into thinking it is (...to my knowledge).

Is it just me, or was 3.02 more fun?

I liked 3.02 because I could do crazy-ass things without putting much real skill into it. It gave me a really convincing illusion of progress, so I enjoyed myself when playing it. Now that I need to put in more work, it's not as enjoyable, because the process of getting better isn't all too fun...

Are True Combos Good for Competitive Gameplay?

I guess it depends on what you mean by true combos. If it's just "use one move and the next move will hit for sure no matter what" then no, it's not good for the game. If it's spontaneous, then yeah, it's good, but if using move B after move A is always optimal, no. Memorization and similar...

Things you feel are wrong in SSB4?

Grindy single player. Smash Run is too short. A few characters I really wanted to main don't fit my playstyle at all (hi Robin). Too few decent stages. The general implementation of For Glory. Multiple air dodges. LACK OF INFORMATIVE PATCH NOTES aside from that, I like it for what it is.

    Hi there.

I've been following the Smash competitive scene since 2004 but never really got involved. I'm pretty much a novice in terms of actual skill, but wanna get better. Decided to join because Smash 4 makes it easy to find other people to play with.
