I didn’t like EMMI at first just because that was when Metroid dread was just announced and everyone wanted them in smash without knowing anything about the actual game. Now that everyone’s shifted to raven beak I think I’ve turned around on them a bit.

The main reason that springs to mind is probably because a lot of people are really dead-set on Raven Beak, so they feel E.M.M.I. (as a "character" more prominent in advertising and less so in the game than they may have expected) would be a cheap inclusion somehow? To be honest, I'm in a similar boat to you on this one - I think E.M.M.I. would be amazing in a Smash game, and really unique compared to basically anyone else on the roster in terms of look and feel.
