Last few days an artist got dogpiled to the post of deleting their Twitter account from someone making a post suspecting it of AI from "imperfections" in the art and then made a half apology-non-apology post afterwards, claiming the artist already planned to leave Twitter before the callout post.

I think I do agree with this sentiment to an extent - retribution is a fundamentally ridiculous concept, and people will act too quickly on paranoia - but I think it's also something where there are situations it doesn't apply (pretty much any time where it's someone powerful punching down and not someone weak punching up, they're in the wrong, 2010s-era "SJW rage" stories that went viral were 9 times out of 10 rational in motive at least), and that harassment cases do tend to be used as an excuse to not evaluate actions. (Scott Cawthon getting off scot-free for his Trump donations with only a non-apology and brazenly emotionally manipulative crayon drawing comes to mind)

I'm not sure "opposing bad things is bad" is a good rule of thumb.

Like, I get your point but I think your first post is too broad of a generalization.
