A few "vs. CFalc" Questions

I know sheik typically dominates falcon, due to edgeguards, superior ground moves, and an amazing grab game (though cfalc's definitely isn't bad, either), but i have some defensive questions after playing darkrain that i thought a more experienced sheik like plank, drephen, tope or just whoever visits the boards could answer for me.

so, what do i do when...

1) cfalc runs in and dairs the back of your sheild, landing behind you?

cfalc can roll after missing it, so an aerial out of shield seems pointless. also if i stay shielding i feel like he's just turn around and grab. can i take advantage of this? if not, is there a safe way out? or am i making a mistake even letting him come in with a dair, and what would help me stop that from occuring often?

2) cfalc upthrows me at medium-low (20-60) percentages?

if i DI away i can get chaingrabbed. but if i DI up i get kneed. am i too slow and failing jumping out? what's the best way to DI, and if i land, which way would i normally tech if he went for and missed a grab or knee?

3) cfalc is running around on the other side of the stage?

i got a lot of filler when i was playing a great cfalc, and i had no idea where to space myself since cfalc can basically jump across most levels in one leap. do i stay a little bit more than a shorthop nair away, as far as i can get, or do i run or walk in for an attack?

i suck so badly at this matchup. there are 0 (well, 1 now but that doesn't matter since i'm moving) captain falcon mains in oklahoma so i've never gotten much experience with him. any help, advice, or even thread spam would be appreciated. much love.

1)If he dairs behind you, he's likely to grab you or jab you, so if he tends to jab, then roll away, and if he's gonna grab, sidestep>punish. Keep the mindset that mindgames should come naturally to a sheik, simply because your options, very often, are limited to dashdancing > punishing a bad approach.

2)All things considered, captain falcon, after an upair at 20-60%, will always hit you with something. If you DI mostly up, maybe some away, he can't hit you with a knee; only an upair. If you just continue DI-ing away, he won't be able to hit you with another.

3)You don't seem too blind on the concept of approaching, but it's really as simple as what you've suggested. Use the most unpredictable, effective attack against your opponent, as usual. And if you're a defensive player instead of an offensive player, dash near him and punish something he does. The options against a falcon are very diverse, though. You can needle him a lot, then as he approaches, you can jump and needle, and from there you can DD > grab or dash or Dsmash or anything. The two most important things to remember in this matchup, in my opinion, are that the fair will come out fast enough to stop falcon from doing much of anything, and the bair will almost always hit him if it's placed correctly.

The best advice I think anybody can give a sheik is to play creatively and have fun with it.

Oh yeah, and with edgeguarding falcon..if he ever makes it back at any percent/distance, you've failed as a sheik player. He's so ridiculously easy to edgeguard it almost makes me wonder why he's not bottom tier.

He has a bad recovery I agree, but it's not as bad as you make it out to be. To be a Falcon main you have to know how to make it difficult. I doubt you could prevent Darkrain from returning ever.

^^^^simple: Don't get grabbed XD.

I play very well with Sheik and CFalcon, and the best thing I can say to help you out is keep a clear mind. CFalcon can play mindgames the entire match. Just don't lose focus. BTW my cousin gets PISSED when I play as Falcon. He gets even more pissed when I play as Sheik :)

Don't forget you can just duck his grab.

1 ) I usually just roll away but you can also try usmash out of shield, also jumping out of shield with needles isn't bad either.

2 ) Try slight DI and jumping... takes some practice. You could always try no DI nair.

3 ) If he's just DD away from you just throw needles... screw that shiz.

A good trick is to save your needles and just unleash them at captain falcon when he does an aerial towards you. CF needs his space, and if you knock him out of the air he WILL try to grab you or run away.

For the u-throw DI... Tope is right about the u-throw nair being useful, but CF can u-throw to f-smash you faster than you can nair him at most %, so just mash that A button if you don't get a chance to DI.

When you see it coming, try slight DI up and behind him. It becomes very difficult for him to knee you. Not impossible, but difficult. If you find that the CF can do it consistently, I suggest slight DI between the top notch and one notch to the right, then attempting to jump as fast as possible.

But really, just don't get grabbed and make every Falcon off the edge a stock.

If, for some reason, you have trouble edgeguarding CF, here's an amazing trick:

Run off the edge into his up+b so he grabs you and throws you towards the stage. Walljump tech it, then fair immediately afterwards. There's literally nothing a Falcon player can do when they are beneath the stage like that!

So beneath the stage- run into up+b and fair / aerial knocking him away from stage

Above the stage - forward air

Towards center stage - needles, downsmash

If he manages to land on the stage, hit him with a dsmash, a d-throw, or a usmash (all followed up by more attacks to get him off the stage).
