Well me and my bro are far from pro lol...
Anyway, my bro and I were massive roll users in mellee (He falco and I fox), I know it's a bad habbit (Least it was in mellee?) and I try not to roll much anymore. However, he still does...rolls like crazy leaving me with no option (That I know of) other then to roll with him and hopefully out roll him :dizzy:

How do you counter people who abuse rolls? Btw he uses Wolf and Diddy if that helps?

You have many options and rolls are easily punished so that's why you should try to limit using it. You would be best off using a u-tilt, d-smash, or just do "something crazy like a fox".

Also for Wolf, you might be able to chain a couple FPs

Is he rolling toward you? If he is just time a Fsmash or Dsmash right before the roll should end. You can also try spamming ftilt for a bit due to its low startup and ending lag for its disjointed hitbox range. These attacks linger and so will hit him during the vulnerability frames at the end of his last. You can also try grabbing him, dthrow, then fair him, FF a Nair, and launch an AS at him if you have one charged.

If he is rolling away with Diddy try using AS. With Wolf if he uses the reflector just charge your AS, don't use it, then move in and attack. If he isn't a really good Wolf user and ignores his Down-B, hit him with the AS. If he catches on and reflects it you can then powershield it on its way back. While I am not a fan of camping with Lucario it is a perfectly viable option.

Just remember that rolls always move a specific distance with a forward roll and a specific distance with a backward roll. If you are able to notice this distance you can attack where you know he will end up after the roll.

He rolls away mainly, when we're in close to each other. Also like hell he avoids Down-B both of us, when we first used fox and falco abused Down-b lol, he doesn't use it as much with wolf, but he sure likes it lol.

Thanks for the tips.

Well I set the Wii up in the other room, so I can play again lol XD
And I battled him a bit, the battles (Well I) seemed much slower, while he still seemed speedy. I'm attempting to not roll at all, to get the habbit out of me, while focusing on Dsmash (Cuz it attacks both sides, I like moves that take the working out for me :]) while he's rolling. It works here and there, but he's started playing ROB a lot ever since he found out it was good on Lucario :/...The outcome is still pretty much the same lol...I've been trying to jump for dodging and shield out of charging AS.

With Lucario, you have several options.

Space yourself with fsmash. Make sure the tip of the smash will hit where he's currently standing. If he rolls into you during this, he'll be hit by the smash regardless.

Turnaround grabs/jabs/ftilt are awesome. If you predict a roll, wait for it and time accordingly.

Dsmash rarely works to be honest. It lacks horizontal distance, and you'll be punished more often than not for trying to use it to punish the roll. If you predict it, you can try..but the other two options are generally safer.

Play it cool, let him come to you and don't get caught whiffing attacks. Games against roll spam are generally boring ones, but they're beatable.

Or, you can counterpick Ganon and forward B whenever he rolls, then try to predict his roll or get-up attack and forward B again. It's fun! :D

Or, just shoot a charged AS whenever he rolls away, and it'll usually hit him.

And if you just plain want to be funny, pick Diddy Kong and throw bananas at him as he rolls. It's hilarious. :D

Also, jumping is a very limited dodge option. Try to learn to spotdodge and shield instead of rolling.

Just remember that rolling isn't USELESS, and it does have its uses in many matchups, but just try to use it less.

I know rolling isn't useless, but my plan of attack to use it less is to try to not use it at all. To break the habbit...Like that cold turkey thingy lol . But yeh, then, when I see I'm not using it, I'll use it when I need it.
I've been shielding a lot more as of late, when I would normally have dodged xD

I'll try using dair when I vs my bro next xD.

And it's more then rolling towards me, it's roll towards, roll away, roll away, roll towards, etc lol :psycho:

If the spam is to the point that he is using the roll as transportation, then just spam BAS at him...

You posters might be trying to outsmart a veggie here guys...

But, if he is any good, and he is using the rolls well, do what they said...

i have the same problem but for me rolls are the way of moving around and even part of my offensive tactics . im not sure if its a real problem or just a new technique but its kinda working for me. but still sometimes it costs me a match depending on the opponent

Rolling into people is a very bad idea if you become excessive with it. Lucario has a good roll. Use it. Don't abuse it, though.

Almost everyone does a roll or a dash attack every once in a while without completely thinking it through. Rolling gives people breathing room, and it feels like a safe way of running away which it probably is against most people. People who use it excessively start to become predictable though.

Players who are spammy tend to fall into situational pidgeon holes if you let them. You might whiff an aerial and feel unsafe because you're too close -- you roll away. People who roll offensively (they want to roll near or behind you and dsmash) too often are easily punishable by just doing an attack where you'll end up. Etc. If you're playing competitively, you're gonna be punished for it eventually. If you're doing it with your friends, it depends on how good your friends are. Online it's much safer because they can't rely on visual clues if you spam it because of button delay; they're stuck with trying to read your mind, but it's really easy to guess with some players.
