Hey there fellow Yoshi's, with all the vods from aMSa's recent trips to the US and the dyeing nature of this forum I thought trying to spark discussion on some of the more interesting matches might help.
As such let's look at aMSa vs Hungrybox from summit 5... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbbUP0jqFps link for those following along at home)
Game 1 (Main focus is on neutral and the patterns they setup)
----------------------------------------------------
aMSa starts pressuring with low DJC nairs and FH fairs
Hbox reads a roll in with up air > rest
Single fair rest punish off of spawn platform, tries to get the second fair off the pop up but Hbox sdi/asdi's down the first fair and rolls away. At lower percents need to read/react to techs off the fair instead of going for the pop up hit.
High percents aMSa is looking for an egg or bair to up air or nair to kill
low percents are mainly counter hits or a fair into tech chase
aMSa beats falling nair with his own jump cancel up smash then takes center stage with a parry
He attempts to bait puff into a bad spot with armor and parry at low-mid percents, hbox plays around this protecting his percent before prioritizing offense on Yoshi
Puff can use drill > up smash to mix up parry timing
Egg throw above shield to call jump oos
Yoshi keeps puff above with platform wavelands with up air and eggs, try to burn jump to minimize puff mix ups in the air
(Just realized time stamps might help for these, ill try to update old ones later. These are time left in the game ie the visible clock)
@6:23 puff attempts to stuff Yoshi with bair twice, aMSa waits on these and calls puffs landing with a sh bair > up air.
@6:03 puff attempts to call FF up air from top platform but aMSa mix's up with egg throw to fair but the fair is too slow, possibly going for hard hit nair will combo or just up air for position
@5:52 reverse DJC nair barely catches puff out of shield, FH fair to call DJ away, jab reset, djc nair, nair but i think if the nair was slighty faster it would have sent away from the stage which is a significantly worse spot for puff imo
@5:48 uses egg throw coming back to stage and buffers CC to mitigate a punish while the egg covers the landing.
@5:43 aMSa parries the falling bair but misses the jump cancel and gets stuck in shield. Hbox uses dash attack afterwards, not sure if this is to cover the parry hop nair, assuming this trades with a djc nair Yoshi could be dead at 117%. Alternatively if aMSa holds shield through the dash attack he could potentially punish puff oos.
@5:40 puffs covers the low return with fair and calls drift back with a grab on platform, this would have beat aMSa's drift back shield drop as it was slow compared to the grab. Alternatively if he realized the puff missed her fair he had time to nair on gis drift back giving him a huge stage advantage.
@5:35 hbox starts using a SH dair at high percents to pressure Yoshi's shield as if it connects it sends Yoshi into grounded tumble. Might need to look into sdi in this situation not sure if theres an answer once you are shielding.
@5:20-10 he is using a puff mix up here hilariously enough. He conditions puff with the sh bair spacing and mixes up a djc turnaround nair where puff would use pound.
@5:05 solid parry hop nair to beat a bair and secure the stock
@5 solid chance going into this last stock since puff has to get Yoshi to 120-180 before she has solid non-gimp kills, while puff can die around 60-100. I think its important to play safely but its also important to go all in if you get the opening at this point.
@4:50 shield drop up air to FH up air, solid percent and positioning at low percents
@4:35 recovers with a falling egg lay, i think this is a better option then he gives it credit for when trying to beat puffs bair horizontally.
@4:30 hbox starts using dair to cheese Yoshi but aMSa rolls toward ledge and sdi's off stage
@4:25 super armor to beat the first bair, parries the second, this could be a good counter hit set up on marth and other double arial per hop characters like luigi.
@4:15 aMSa really looking for an egg or weak hit and hbox is spacing for anything. hbox tries the tomahawk grab but double roll in wins :D i ****in love roll btw.
@4:10 starts the FH/SH bair conditioning only to hit with the djc nair again
@4:00 dash attack... well the dash dance before it was god like but it seems to be a decent option if they aren't expecting that attack. Doesn't seem to true combo at this percent tho. Great egg throw afterwards to beat the falling fair that was supposed to call the second dash attack I think. Egg connects to up air at this percent, this whole last stock was genius :O
aMSa using an insane amount of crouch cancel to mitigate the bair and falling nair, gonna go more into summary and games 2-4 later. Hope this sparks something in this forum tho, 20eggseggs is coming.
