So, for all of my gaming career I've been a downhill player. Probably because of the games I grew up playing, namely sonic the hedgehog and TFC (as a scout). I've always been of the idea that dying/losing/etc doesn't matter as long as I take two of yours with me. I play counter-strike with a shotgun, starcraft with zerglings and MTG with nothing but goblins (it's the sixth round? zomg fail). Now, I know this isn't the preferred playing style in brawl, and honestly, It's not how I play brawl usually. But I still love to **** around and go completely offensive.

I main Luigi because his moves just feel right to me. That's probably not going to change, even though I'm forced to play at a different tempo than I'm normally used to playing in a game. But I'd love to pick up a secondary character who's best (or at least good) strategy is pressure. I want to be attacking, I want to take the initiative, and most of all I want to make sure the other guy is uncomfortable. High risk/high reward.

Short version
Which character (or characters) is most offensively oriented, and/or has the best downhill pressure game?

I'd also gladly take any advice regarding how to play pressure brawl in general. Also, any suggestions about how to take the O with luigi are also appreciated. Feel free to be lenghty, I like to read.

Best pressure game goes to lucario.

Shadow Balls Aura Spheres make your opponents do/say stupid things.

Also, that down air is almost unpunishable, especially when combined with footstool jumping on someone's shield.

I'll agree with the guy above me; Lucario's got some mad pressure play.

But another I find hard to play against is Fox. He's way too fast for me to follow. His speed and smash attacks put the pressure on for sure.

Generally, pressure derives from the ability to consistently hit the opponent and limiting their defensive options. It would have to be Meta Knight, or any character that has a projectile. In all honesty though, their really aren't any pressure options in this game considering the defensive options you have are ridiculous.

Pressure gameplay is the kind of thing you should look for in any match. It's always good to ask yourself, "How can I stay in my comfort zone while pulling them out of theirs?"

There's probably several ways to do it, depending on the character you choose. However, some may just put on the pressure better than others. Hence, we come back to the focus of the thread.

You always want to close the gap between you and your opponent in some way, right? Don't give him/her a chance to breathe, and take that person out of rhythm. You can do this in hand-to-hand combat or (even better) at a distance. Characters with projectiles are probably the most savvy at applying the pressure. Thus, alot of projectile lovers are on this roughly drawn list

Pit - Taking the above commentary into consideration, Pit may be one of the obvious candidates. Aside from the . He has controllable arrows, two reflectors (one of which hurts ALOT), and and mini-swords. Not only can you give projectiles, but you can reflect them as well. He's a well-rounder in close, medium, and long-distance combat. Enough said.

Ivysaur - Even though I was tempted to say "Pokemon Trainer" to cover all three pocket monsters, none of them quite does the job of applying pressure like Ivysaur. He has decent long-distance game with his leaves and some medium distance game with his vines. Beware him up close as well - that bulb hurts in more ways than one! Air game, Bullet Seed, you name it! He's...not bad.

R.O.B. - If I were to pick a personal favorite for this list, it would have to be R--O--B--ROB. One thing that may really set off another player is its very disjointed and sporadic movements. Every other character (save Game and Watch) has some fluidity in their movement. If you just watch your opponent, you can probably tell when he/she is about to strike. Especially Ike - he gives you plenty of time to dodge if you're prepared and aware. R.O.B.'s attacks are quick and concise.

Even better is his projectile game. When is laser is even partially charged, it can be fast, and it can be enough to disrupt someone just a little. It's really good if you want to put pressure on opponents outside the arena. Or maybe you're trying to get back in. Just tag your opponent with a laser and use your rocket boosters. (Your gyro discs can be used in the same manner).

Yep...R.O.B.'s nifty. :)

Wolf (?) - This one is a shot in the dark, for I rarely play as Wolf and am not well acquainted with him.

He has a gun that disrupts the opponent (as opposed to Fox's) and a reflector, yes? Think of him like Pit, except he has a little more knockback (don't take my word on that). Plus, he's got a forward smash and a forward-B that help close gaps quickly and subtly. Just be careful of that forward-B, since it doesn't go straight.

Captain Falcon (?) - Yet another shot in the dark. Could his Raptor Boost or Falcon Kick be useful in closing the gap between you and your opponent? Maybe, but be wary of Shield Grabbing, which is probably the most effective response to each of these moves.

Snake - Does Snake offer pressure? Perhaps, but maybe in a different way. His mines mortars, C4's, and Nikitas are all additional factors that players have to take into account when facing the legendary soldier. Go ahead - let the enemy grab you...while a mortar dives in for some decent damage. Nikitas are like moving shields, too. Try to bust those things! Solid Snake also decent reach with many of his moves, and most of them have serious knockback. With Snake, you're not looking to play around. Every attack should HURT! (Just...don't use the Forward Smash unless you really want to confuse someone)

I know there's several potential characters I haven't covered (namely Meta Knight and Lucario), but I'm sure this was plenty of food for thought. Enjoy!

(....Gosh darn it! I didn't revise my writing!)
