Final Smash Opinion Thread

I thought I'd just make this thread to discuss Final Smashes.

Discuss your opinions about the smash ball, how its obtained, etc.

Who's final smash is better/worse?

Do they totally unbalance the game or do they add to the fun?

Should smash balls be banned or not?

Discuss at your leisure.

In before lock! My position on this is very liberal, possibly because I haven't (yet) attended a tournament, but also because I have a positive look on items as a whole. Some unbalanced, sure, but the overall idea is fine. Now, for the final smashes themselves, yes, some of them are absolutely unbalanced, and they usually result in something game-breaking. How do I find the balance in it? Because it's not simply awarded at random. You have to actively break it before someone else can do the same. It has its own little mini-game in a sense as you try to achieve it. Even for those with bad ones, you want to get the smash ball so that others can't. If all you had to do was grab it and use it, yeah, it'd be worth banning, although painful to take off a character's move.
Additionally, when surrounded with other items, a game involving them does not simply become about the smash ball, as opponents would argue. The game becomes a combination of character techniques, working for the ball, and appropriate use of items. That creates 3 levels of play to master in order to consistently win. A tall feat indeed, but it would seem doable to me.

Just watch. If this is not locked, I'm going to get 50 posts flaming me for this position by the end of the day.

I definitely welcome Final Smashes, as they (sometimes) show the ultimate potential (franchise-wise) of that character. I would've like to seen different Final Smashes (Luigi's could've been Mr. L, Falco and Wolf could have something different, and Peach could've had a power from Super Princess Peach) for sure, but most are fine the way they are. =)

smashballs in tournament play? your kidding right? they destroy the game as it becomes about smashballs/items. anyone noob could beat the best players with items on. take falco's final smash for example: it takes ussualy 2 stock away. i honestly dont enjoy smashballs for play with my friends either. when we use items we only use green shells and beam swords

Eh the search engine is a bit choppy anyways, even if there are 5 posts of something created, you probably won't find more than one...


Anyways I think final smash seriously corrupts a competitive match. I'd say the Star Fox crew have the best, they can lift people out of screen, blow them away, knock off the hangers, and it lasts a while.
