G&W does fair aid recovery?

I always see people using fair as g&w while they recover. Does it actually aid horizontal recovery in any way?

It doesn't actually increase the distance he travels, but it provides a nice disjointed hitbox in front of him to help stop any offstage edgeguard attempts.

Especially against fox, it makes it at least minimally harder for fox to come off and shine you as you jump
