Smash Rookie
Greetings, Smashers! I am PixelPoet, and I am a long time Smash fan that is interested in stepping up my game and possibly playing a little competitive, while maybe meeting a few new friends here!
Super Smash Bros is a series that is very dear to my heart. One of my earliest memories of console gaming is playing Melee on my cousin's GameCube with him when I was maybe six or seven years old. I got crushed almost every match, but the series and its gameplay kept me so enthralled that I didn't even care that I was losing. A few years later, I picked up a Wii and a copy of Melee and really got into the game, and I started to hold my own against fellow friends who also played. Later I bought Brawl and spent far too many hours on that game as well, and just last year my buddy and I headed to the game store to pick up Smash 3DS on launch day, as well as the Wii U version months later (not on launch day however).
Even though I've played Smash for years, I hadn't ever really tried competitive play. Just a few months ago I finally learned how to Wavedash in Melee, and just before that I finally learned that shielding-when-you-hit-the-ground-tumbling thing I learned by accident earlier was called "teching". So, now I'm interested in learning a bit of competitive play. My skill level's somewhere in between Level 8 and Level 9 CPU in the Wii U version, where I can defeat Level 8's reliably but I still get whupped by Level 9's. I'm looking to learn some new combos and tricks, working on my reaction and processing times, but I'm not interested in fully immersing in all aspects of competitive play just yet. Last time I jumped into competitive play too quickly, it turned me off of Pokemon for some time. Right now, I just want to get my feet a little wet.
Outside of Smash, I do have some other interests and hobbies. Right now in school, I'm studying to become a mechanical engineer, and I'm trying some basic programming in my spare time. I like to make all sorts of things, currently I'm working on a display table for my small amiibo collection, similar to the collector's trophy table at the end of Melee's 1P modes. I also like to write short stories and poems about video games and other topics, hence the name PixelPoet and the fact that this intro seems to be going on for too long because I just like to write.
I can be a bit shy at times, but I do open up and can make friends quickly! If you're interested about talking about Smash or just chatting, send me a message or something. I'm hoping to meet some new friends here, and maybe even some practice buddies. Either way, I'm hoping I'll enjoy my time here at SmashBoards!
