I haven't any idea what I'm doing wrong, but I just can't seem to effectively approach/combo against my friend's Sonic.

I start off with a Squirtle lead, trotting when playing a ground game to spring him up with USmash, then attempting my fairs and bairs. However, with the lag on WiFi against him being moderately bad, I find myself losing my flow. The game isn't as fluent, and I find my Fairs/Bairs landing just shy, and I don't even get the FTilt right after landing sometimes due to the lag making me feel as the movements are delayed.

Normally I can rack up damage with Squirtle's Fairs/Bairs until I can KO with his Usmash, but against my friend's Sonic I'm forced to bring in Ivy for a Dashing + A or USmash/Fsmash KO. >.>

My friend likes to spam Sonic's Down B, taking advantage of my delay in movement when Squirtle lands due to lag to hit me a few times. Also, when I come at him straight with Fairs, he tends to charge Sonic's Fsmash to scare me away.

Any idea what I should do differently? Maybe start off with an Ivy lead and camp with Razor Leaf? Possibly drawing him into an air game to rack up some damage with Bullet Seed?

Any help's greatly appreciated. Just can't seem to take care of his ****ed Sonic. >__>

Well, I would just like to start off by asking, can you beat him in a game when you are both in the same room? WiFi is fun, despite the lag, but you really can't base your or anyone else's, for that matter, skill on a lagged-up game.

However, if you insist on playing over WiFi, then I suppose predicting would be the key. Of course it is offline, as well, but I think that playing online might actually help with the faster-paced offline play. Anyway, to the point:

I would use Squirtle as a starter, being as he is floaty and has a great aerial game, better than Sonic's, in my opinion. His aerials have great priority and a deceptively long range despite his small size. Again, if you are playing online it is going to be different; however, there is another element added. As always try to predict what he is going to do next, and punish THAT move instead of the one he is currently doing. I know it seems vague, but it helps me, in WiFi matches, at least.

Hope this was somewhat helpful.

I actually use Ivysuar but id suggest squirtle, but I find sonics are super agressive because of speed so I wait react play defensively. They are so busy trying to home and dash through me or i believe its down b they miss cause I just simply dodge and react. I dont think razor leaf right at first cause I think they see that coming, eventually yes though. Just dont rush in unless your sonic players rather uncareful.

i think you really need to play him in a non wifi match before you can see how you stack up against him.
