Pressing the x button for the short hop is all about speed. The sensitivity doesn't affect it I believe. I practiced it in sections. I did the hop till I had it down, then added in the FF, and then I practiced on a dummy in training when the hit and L cancel were added. Don't forget to practice it in a dash lol, I did and it messed me up when I tried to use it in a few fights at first.

Took me about 3 weeks of doing it in my spare time to get it down on Fox, and another week to learn it on sheik.

Yeah, practice short hopping first before trying to SHFFL. And Osi is right. It's all about how fast you hit the jump button, not how hard. I'd also practice it on a different character before going to Sheik since for some reason I had a harder time getting her to SH than most other characters, so maybe it's the same for you. Once you get it down with someone else (Marth is good), then switch to Sheik and it should be much easier.

SHFFLing took me a while to master, but the hardest part for me was getting the L-cancels down. Short hopping just takes some time for your fingers to get used to how quickly you have to press the button, but just keep practicing and you should get it down fairly quickly.

To be honest, I've played shiek for a while, and I also play c.fal and link. Those two require alot of shffl'ing so I had it down with them, but never even short hopped with shiek, but after seeing this thread, I was like, hmm I should do it, a week of practice wouldn't be bad, and I picked it up in 15 minutes and now I'm getting combos going with shffl'ing and my favorite so far is probably shffl'd d-air, u-tilt, f-tilt, shffl'd f-air. Thanks though, this thread was good motivation for improvement, and idk why. =]

Some tips for practice though are, as osi said, and while you work on timing circle hops, it helps timing with when to air-dodge/hit l, and it'll help you with timing in general. Circle hops are when you jump forward or backwards, and then wave-land back in the direction of your origional location. 90% of this game is timing ;o. WORK ON TIMING! TIMING TIMING TIMING! haha

I need some serious help with this. Im determined to go pro after seeing this website.

Ive practiced SHFFLing with shiek for 2 hours today.
I can do it but its freaken hard my fingers are hurting bad right now.

Is there any secret im missing?

I press x, slide my fingers to the C-stick to attack, and then press down and R.

Is this the only way of doing it? I cant run or do anything else before or after
SHFFLing because im not good enough yet.

How would this be easyer with another charictor?
Other charictors shot hops are shorted which mean there harder to do right?

Any advice or tips would help me alot thanks

Shiek has one of the faster jumps in the game, which requires you to have to hit the button faster to short hop with Shiek than say Marth or Falco. The actual height of the jumps doesn't make a difference, its the amount of frames the jump has before they leave the ground. I don't really know the frame details, but just look at Bowser vs. Shiek. Bowser has many more frames on the ground before he actually jumps compared to Shiek.

Some options are you can use the L button to L-cancel to relieve some stress in your right hand from doing everything. I personally wavedash with R and tech, l-cancel, and shield with L button instead. My brother does everything with R so it's just a matter of preference.

You don't really have to C-stick everything with shiek, unless you plan on doing a late aerial or a dair or upair, you can just use A. You can also try short hopping with Y to see if it's easier.

Other options are flicking down on X with the tip of your thumb to short hop, or else just pressing it really fast.

Just giving you other options to try out. The only thing that will make you better at it overall is practice practice practice.

Sheik is one of the hardest people to short hop with, so I would start off practcing short hopping first.

If you want a later attack, which I often do, tap X or Y, and hold the control stick left or right depending on what aerial you want. For dairs, I use the c-stick, and for uairs I hold the stick up right after I SH.
