The start of many major discussions it seems revolves around tier lists. What do you think would happen to the smash games if Smash had updates for the characters and stages to attempt to make it more even? As an example, I will use Starcraft. Because it can be updated, no one race is preferred or better than another. This leads to use of more creative play instead of just using the best to win. What are your opinions?

Starcraft has arguably the best competitive community in the world. It is the national sport of Korea, for God's sake. It really isn't fair to use it as a comparison.

What he said. If you want updated gameplay play brawl+. It's a better game anyways.

I'm just asking what would happen. I agree with the above. Also remember this is an IF question so its more like a debatish thing. Also there wasn't really a overall thread for all three smash games, I just posted it here (oops g2 change title)

i think if brawl had updates it would most likely just piss off the competitive community by removing certain techniques and modifying characters. Nintendo would most likely just update to "balance the game" which in reality would be just dumbing it down and undoing any discoveries made by the good player of these forums.

So lets all be thankful it doesn't

Nintendo is too busy making money off Wii Fit to care about the die-hard and devoted.

Plus they might think it's too complex for little kids and casuals.

**** ain't gonna happen.

Knowing Nintendo, they'd just **** it up more.

It's true that updates go against Nintendo's current philosophy toward their games. Updates would usually be used to improve the longevity and competitiveness of games. (See any RTS or FPS). Not gonna happen until the next game.

IF they had updates, we would see a nerfed Metaknight, and other characters receiving minor buffs. Probably some fixes for glitches like chaingrab infinities, laserlocking, tilt-locking, basically the stuff the brawl+ coders have to deal with. I'm not going to be as cynical as the others and say they'd take out competitive aspects of it. That's a possibility, but I think if they had the intent to patch their games, then keeping players interested in those games would have to be one of the motives.

When nintendo made brawl, they didnt have the competitive scene in mind. They wernt concerned because there wern't a whole lot of multiplayer hit games out so they rushed. (Yes im aware of the immense postponment of the game) So when nintendo finally got fed up because of nintendo fanboys and had to make the deadline offical. So they couldn't finish creating the game with the balance they intended. And that is the story of meta knight being lagless, and snakes tilts

Sakurai would release an update like "In an effort to make the game more fun and enjoyable for people with MS, we have decided to remove the item switch and make it so items are always on. We have also made it so that if one player is losing they get 3 extra lives!! Now the game is fun for the whole family! But, we realize there are people who don't enjoy playing with items. Well we have a plan for them as well! THEY CAN TAKE A STEP BACK AND LITERALLY **** THEMSELVES."

The game would be even more dumbed down.

Didn't someone swear they changed sonic's nair from 11% to 12% or something? It turned out to be imagined, of course, but they were so sure. What an update.

Not to mention that there are only three races, as opposed to the 40+ characters.

Due to the sheer number of characters, there will always be better characters and worse characters. Any modifications will just shuffle tier lists around.
