Is kirby as good as he was in classic?

I've heard from various sources that kirby was downgraded a lot in melee (he went from top tier to bottom tier). Has kirby inproved in brawl? Is he as good as he was in classic? Better? I would like to here your opinions and how good you think kirby is.

No one is as good as they were in Smash-64. Z-canceling into uber-combos were just too good.

However, Kirby certainly isn't as bad as he was in Melee. That's for sure.

No. I main Kirby on Kaillera, so I'm pretty familiar with how good he was. Nobody in Brawl is better than in any previous installment. He had arguably the most shield break combos (besides Ness), the best edgeguarding in the game, insane horizontal recovery to complement multiple jumps, a huge amount of D-air->U-tilt->X combos, and one of the highest grab ratings in the game.

Because there is barely any shieldstun, there are no shield break combos. Kirby's edgeguard game is still good, thanks in part to Fence of Pain, but D-air doesn't spike nearly as consistently and B-air doesn't have enough knockback to kill at low percents off the stage. F-air doesn't provide the horizontal momentum it did in 64, meaning he has limited horizontal recovery (but still decent). You can't combo because of no Z-canceling. Grabs suck in Brawl.

So, no. Kirby is not as good in Brawl as he was in 64. While he got some buffs, and is better relative to other characters, he isn't technically as good in Brawl as he was in Melee.

He is definetly a ton freakin better now in brawl.

But the question is he better in 64 or brawl is a tough question. I don't think so because he was indeed extremely good in 64. Not to say he is bad in brawl because that isnt true at all. He is very good, especially compared to melee. But imo perhaps not as good as 64.

Kamekasu I agreed with your post until you said he technically isnt as good in brawl as in melee. He is a ton better.

Good thread.

Unless you meant 64 (which it seems like you did) you're way off because
Kirby in Brawl >>>>> Kirby in Melee

As for 64, it's really hard to compare the kirby from both games mainly because the gameplay is very different. Currently, he has probably the best wall of pain, he has awesome aerial control, he lacks a few killing moves (bair doesn't kill as low as it did in 64 but it's still good). Overall he's definitely a good character and it's really hard to compare brawl with 64 but in general I don't think any characters have the ability to **** nearly as easily as they did in 64.

Kaillera is how you play Smash Bros. 64 online.
Melee Kirby would **** Brawl Kirby because he has legitimate combos.
I said Brawl Kirby is better, in comparison to the rest of the Brawl cast.
It'd be stupid to say that any Brawl character is 'better' than their Melee counterpart.

Ah ok I see that now...

That's definitely what I was trying to point out...he's better in comparison to the rest of the cast now (which makes him seem better in general) than in melee.

Kirby is better in brawl than in melee. I vaguely remember how 64 was like, so I can't compare there.

Why brawl? Because, in Melee, kirby had the crappiest hammer techniques, for one. His dash attack left you open for like a whole second (while you were executing it, of course), he was easy to kill, his attacks didnt have much knockback (unless you count the tip of the hammer), and well... All the other characters had more reach (except maybe Jiggly and Pichu). Brawl Kirby ate and digested all of this and formulated a counterattack to ech one of the stated points. He has awesome hammer abilities, his dash attack is faster and deals consecutive hits, his feet have some weird reach that extend beyond what can be seen, and if you know what you're doing, KOing is not as annoying as it was back then...

Guess the worst thing I can find with Brawl Kirby till now is that his b-throw/f-throw on the edge of the stage is harder to do now than in Melee, and in melee, it could end a match quickly if you had a 1-stock advantage (and the f-throw and kirbycide KO'd your opponents before you got KOd, making the "GAME!" message appear and freeze the game before you died also).

LIES! LIES AND DECEIT! Kirby's easily as bad, if not worse than he was in Melee. You just cant tell because in general most characters suck in Brawl. A comparison to Melee Kirby shows that he actually hasn't improved much. The general idea about kirby is that he's better because he no longer gets ***** by the Marths/Foxes/Falco's but people seem to forget how ***** he gets by the NEW god tiers, e.g. Meta Knight and Snake. He's probably not the WORST character in the game anymore(mostly due to other characters becoming a level of ungodly bad that wasn't even in melee) but he really hasn't improved that much.
