I am no computer guru, but i am pretty sure that i have a good internet connection and no matter what i always have lag. Sometimes online is better some days than others, but even on good days it is always slower online than playing offline, is this unavoidable? does everyone have this problem? b/c i have just stopped playing online all together

Almost all my matches have about 1/5 of a second of input delay. It's very easy to adapt to. After a few seconds, I can no longer notice the delay. If you mostly play "With Anyone" then it's hit or miss. Sometimes you'll be paired with good connectios and sometimes bad. I recommend only playing "With Friends" with people you know have good connections from experience.

Listen to PrinceMarthX...because he just took my post. >.>

It's a much better idea to just stick with Friends. With some exceptions, I've had almost no lag when fighting friends. If you're absolutely positive you have a good connection, then it has to be your opponent's, which you can, sadly, do nothing about.

I find that even with anyone my online gameplay is pretty good..obv friends is the best wherre it seems like they are sitting next to you but only on occasion will i run into lag with anyone in which case i just exit and find a diff group. Just make sure your router is set properly or direct connect ur wii and hopefully others do the same =] If they did..im pretty sure 'anyone' would be just as flawless

to answer your question, yes, lag is technically unavoidable with online play.

Well, the best connection you'd get would be if you have a full connection from an almost empty computer, and so did your friend :/

But even if the play seems 100% normal, it will never cross 99%.

Aside from avoidance, I don't care about the lag unless I'm battling someone on the friends list.(usually is Ulti_Mario.....I think that's his username, it's what that person told me to put in the who referred you spot in the registration)

Playing with friends is the best thing to do. When there are two of your friends seeking a Brawl, you know which has more lag. But when you play with anybody, it can be a 5 minute 3 2 1. It's even hard to drop out, there is so much lag! But most of the time the only lag you see is a little in the countdown. And then it will seem like there is no lag at all. So to answer your question, no. Lag is unavoidable. Unless you call a company to get you a better connection, you're screwed. :/
