King Dedede Tournament Results Thread

Considering a good amount of the character boards have their own tourney result threads, I'm surprised we haven't made our own one after an entire year this game's been out. Let's show what achievements the King's servants have done at tournaments!

Basically, just follow this format:

• Your Smash alias.
• Name of the tournament, its location, and the date it took place. Specify if it was a local, regional or major.
• How well you placed, and the number of entrants. Link to the bracket if it is available!
• If you want, post how well you're placed on your current region's PR, or make a report of you rose!

Oomba Friday Night Smash - November 14th, 2015: King Dedede v. TCZ Noah's Kirby (0-2) -> King Dedede and Charizard v. Chicken Cup's Fox (0-2)
Final result: 25th out of 34 entrants (not last because the bracket wasn't even so there was a round of losers before I lost)
this tourney sucked for me. I got put up against two people who were really good.

Oomba Friday Night Smash - October 9th, 2015: King Dedede v. Mr Navi's Peach (1-2) -> King Dedede v. Mike's ??? (I think it was falcon but I'm not sure) (2-0) -> King Dedede v. Isaac's Sheik and Yoshi (2-1) -> King Dedede v. Scooter's Roy (0-2)

Oh, well just look at the seed numbers versus the final placements! For instance, the guy who beat you in loser's was seed 50. (almost everyone who was beaten around the time you were beaten in were seed 50+ as well) That means those people shouldn't have made it past the first round of loser's. And vice versa, quite a few people who were seeded at around 20~30 got knocked out immediately. It looks like the top 20 were all seeded correctly but the last 40 people were just thrown in whatever.

I'm not taking away from your placement whatsoever, you did great; it's just as a TO myself (and a seeding perfectionist) it was really irritating to see that.

Seeding numbers are based off of skill level. The lower the seed (e.g., 1,2,3), the better the player. While the higher seed (e.g., 50,51,52) the worse the player. The idea is the best players play the worst players first, that way, you weed out the non top players in the winner's bracket and send them to the loser's bracket to fight amongst themselves. This is also because if the two top players played each other round one, only one could win while the other would just tornado through loser's bracket and no one would have a chance. Furthermore, it ensures that no nontop players somehow get a free ride to winner's finals for no reason.

Seeding is really really important and literally one change can change the entire outcome of the bracket. It matters.

I've never posted in this topic but I guess I can share a recent major tournament that I went to. Dismantle 2 that happened this past weekend featuring Nairo, Dabuz, Ally, Vinnie, MVD, MJG, DK Will as well as pretty much all of the Midwest.

I tied for 33rd place out of 259 entrants. Another Dedede player from Chicago named Masho (I don't know if he posts here) also tied for 33rd.

Also, I have to give special mention to my good friend and fellow DDD main, ChrisTheHatman, who has gotten 9th of 55 and 13th of 49 at the last two Oomba events, which is really good considering the skill level of the people who go here. SoCal is friggin competetive man! This is a feat! And he has used solo DDD all the way! Now that Shrooby has dropped the king, and because I don't know of any other DDD mains in other parts of SoCal, I wouldn't be afraid to call this man the best DDD in SoCal

In pools I beat a Robin 2-0, a Luigi 2-0, a Wario 2-1, but I was beaten 0-2 by Mint's Rosalina.
In bracket I lost game 1 to Snook's Palutena, beat his Bayonetta game 2, but lost game 3 to his Palutena again.

Some more tournaments in Dublin coming up so I'm hoping I can only improve on this placing.

Dunno if any of you guys were watching Midwest Mayhem ft. Mr. R and Hyuga, but I was there and managed to get 17th out of 183 players. I feel like I did alright, but I even still feel like I could have did better. I ended up playing both Mr. R and Hyuga in bracket and man it sure was something. And I managed to get bodied by Hyuga on stream, I'm not too happy about that lol.

Going forward I feel like I need to have more faith in my secondaries, I got eliminated by a Bayo and even though I took game 1 I feel like I should have switched to Kirby because I know that matchup is alot better. Even in pools and in my first round of losers in Top 32 I had to play ZSS players and even though I beat them and know that MU as Dedede pretty well as well as that MU being a bit easier now its still pretty stressful lol. But hey there isn't much wrong with sticking to your main all the way.
