PORKY MINCH

(Thanks to N3ON for the banner)

INTRODUCTION
Porky is the main antagonist of Mother 3 and a major villain in EarthBound. He is described as a self-centered, rotten, and spoiled brat, as well as a bully.
[collapse=About Porky: SPOILERS]
Porky Minch, referred to as Pokey Minch, first appeared in EarthBound and was Ness' neighbor. In the beginning of EarthBound, Porky temporarily joined Ness' team to find his brother Picky. However, whenever the team encounter an enemy, Porky cowardly doesn't fight. He later turns against Ness and becomes his enemy by joining the intergalactic destroyer Giygas. Towards the end of EarthBound, Porky is alongside Giygas in a "Heavily Armored" machine. A couple of his attacks involve charging at the player and tearing into the player (probably with the machine's legs). After unleashing Giygas' true form, he flees from the scene by time traveling, leaving Ness and his companions to fight Giygas.

Porky later appears in Mother 3 as the main antagonist and leader of the Pigmask Army. He appears in a machine similar to the Heavily Armored Machine in EarthBound. The attacks he does, however, are not specified (For example, "What did Porky do?"). In Brawl, Porky appears as one of the bosses in the Subspace Emissary. One of his attacks is he charges across the stage, which could be a reference the attack in EarthBound, and he also attacks by rapidly stabbing the player, which could be a reference to the attack that involved tearing into the player. In EarthBound, Porky had to time travel many years into the past in order to be alongside Giygas. Due to the side effects of the time travel, he turned a sickly blue. After Ness and Co. defeat Giygas, he travels to a new period in time. In Mother 3, it is revealed that Porky has done so much time traveling that he doesn't even know how old he actually is; he's said he could be 1,000 or even 10,000 years old. He also appears much older inMother 3 as his hair is white and he has grown a mustache. His skin has also been turned to a more pale color. In Brawl, Porky is designed around his appearance in Mother 3, and the machine he is in is based on the machine in Mother 3.

In Mother 3, Porky ordered robots to be built that appeared like he did before he started time traveling. The robots also had the same personality as him. When battling against these robots, they explode causing damage to Lucas and Co. There is also a robot that tried to kill them by self-destructing. There is also another version of these robots that are meant to be challenged against in certain games (such as racing across a platform). These robots have lights on top of them, and when they lose or win, the lights flash. In Brawl, Porky can send out a few of his robots. The robots appear like the ones with the lights on them, but they self-destruct like the other version.
[/collapse]

In Brawl, Porky had a notable appearance as a boss in the Subspace Emissary, appearing in his mech from Mother 3.

And let's not forget the Pig King Statue which chased down Lucas in the ruined Zoo.

All in all, Porky (along with Ridley) had the rare distinction of being referenced in more than one boss battle.

Porky also got a stage to his name - the infamous 'New Pork City', which was the largest stage in Brawl, like Temple in Melee.
IN SUPER SMASH BROS. 4
The Mother series, much like Fire Emblem has a changing cast of characters. Among them, Porky stands out as someone who has had important roles in both the games he appears in, namely EarthBound and Mother 3. Thus, he connects the storyline of Ness and Lucas.

As a recurring antagonist who is significant to the plot of both games, he also fills the niche spot of a villain for the Mother series. Moreover, unlike Ness and Lucas, he doesn't use PSI.

Apparently, the creator of Mother series, Shigesato Itoi, is fond of Porky. Link to the interview.
Shigesato Itoi said:
the grief of that is incredibly depressing to me. It's amazing... Porky is truly a poem in himself.
A LIST OF COUNTER ARGUMENTS

Mother Series does not deserve any more representatives.
I'll admit that this is the perhaps the largest obstacle to any Mother character. An important point to be remembered is that, in Smash, a character gets in based on his own merits rather than depending on the franchise he belongs to. Also, thinking over it, apparently this notion seems to have the 'sales' argument as one of its roots. The Mother series is an important part of Nintendo's history. Of course, it's not even close to Mario, Zelda or Pokémon, the series is very iconic, as its producer, Shigesato Itoi is a highly respected cultural figure. This also explains the surprising amount of content the Mother Series received in Brawl.

Another point often brought up is that another Mother character would disrupt the series balance. Frankly, I don't see how adding just one more Mother character would jeopardize the balance. If people are cool with having 4 Star Fox and/or 4 Fire Emblem characters in Smash 4, then Mother can surely do with 3 reps.

The 3rd Mother character should be Ninten or Masked Man.
Porky, Ninten and Masked Man are pretty much the only realistic contendors for the spot of the 3rd Mother characters.

First off, Ninten. Ninten, the protagonist of Mother,is often supported so that he can complete the the trio of Mother series protagonists. However, his chances are hurt due to his appearance being a near carbon copy of Ness (save for a scarf and the lack of a backpack). Speaking from a gameplay perspective as well, Ninten is also very similar to Ness, except that he cannot use offensive PSI (which I don't believe will translate well into a fighting game like Smash.)

While Mother 1 is certainly a part of the series itself, it wasn't the core of the Mother series. It didn't have the overworld enemy encounters, scrolling health bars, or zany dialogue that Earthbound and Mother 3 are well known and praised for. In fact, in terms of story between Mother and Earthbound, the only recurrent character was Giygas, and even then, he has no real ties between the two games beyond having (almost) the same name and control over aliens and machinery. Mother could be absent from the series, yet Earthbound and Mother 3 would not feel any less understood in background.

For those reasons, along with the fact that Mother 1 itself definitely has the weakest fanbase, I don't think a character is warranted from Mother 1. This is especially considering that the only notable requested character of Mother 1, Ninten, shares so many similarities with Ness that it essentially makes as much sense as adding yet another Link to Smash Bros. One is a spiritual successor to the other. They're essentially different yet the same. For those reasons, I would lean much more towards a character like Porky, who is graced with being the only major potential character to appear in multiple games of the series, as well as that he provides a niche in being the only Earthbound series character to not be a protagonist nor use PSI. We're representing characters, not games, in a given series.
Next Masked Man. I'll admit; Masked Man currently has the largest amount of support for the next Mother character. But as we all know, popularity isn't the be all, end all reason for a character to get in. Series importance plays its role. As I mentioned before, Porky's role in EarthBound and Mother 3 acts a link between the stories of Ness and Lucas. As a matter of fact, it was Porky who reduced Masked Man to his minion and was responsible for his tragic loss of memory.

Also a Porky moveset because why not. This is going off the Doc Ock Porky idea, by the way.

Overall statistics: Using parts of his mech as a way to attack, Porky has the benefit of having long-ranged regular attacks while having a small hitbox himself. However, Porky is overweight and therefore cannot jump high or run fast at all. He is a bit heavier than Ness or Lucas, and has a relatively fast falling speed.

Neutral Special: Super Bomb - Porky grabs a very ball-like bomb and underhand throws it onto the ground. After a noticeable delay of 4 seconds, it automatically explodes in a large radius. It is affected by terrain, meaning it will continue to roll down slopes much like a barrel does.

Side Special: Piggy Laser - Porky fires a yellow X-shaped laser from one of his machine arms. The projectile is large yet somewhat slow compared to other projectiles. Travels in a straight line until it hits something or leaves the screen.

Up Special: Porky Copter - Two of Porky's machine arms press up together and combine to form a propeller over Porky. It spins rapidly, bringing Porky upwards and doing a multitude of hits if an opponent is caught in it.

Down Special: PSI Counter Device - Porky emits a crackling force field around himself. Whenever an energy projectile hits Porky during this, the damage he takes will go directly to the attacker. For example, a fully charged Samus shot doing 30% would bring Samus' percentage up by 30% if it hits Porky. Energy projectiles from Assist Trophies and other sources besides the attacker will be absorbed, but will not damage Porky.

Final Smash: Heavily Armed Porky - Porky flies up off the screen and comes crashing down in his spider mech from Earthbound. It maneuvers similarly to his Mother 3 Mech boss fight from Brawl, being able to crab walk left and right and jump into the air. Pressing A tears into the opponent while pressing B launches several Porky Bots out to chase down the opponent. Additionally, pressing A while in the middle of a jump causes Porky and his mech to crash straight down much like a Bowser Bomb, with the additional effect of burying the opponent in the ground. As the final smash gets closer to ending, Porky will release more and more "stinky gas" from his machine before it explodes spectacularly (doing decent knockback to anyone within range).
[/COLLAPSE]
[collapse="By FireEmblemnier"]Porky plays by using his pawns and avoiding actual face to face combat, even being in the safety of a mech.

Neutral Special- Porky sends out a pigmask, equipped with it's laser gun and shoots, will sometime salute to King P, making it susceptable to attack. Can be easily knocked off screen.

Side Special-Porky sends out a Porkybot, and will, like in brawl, run around and soon Explode, damaging opponents in the explosion.

Down Special- Sends out a random chimera which will charge at opponent and goes off the screen. The chimera will continue moving until it goes off the screen.

Up Special- Porky's mech launches itself up in the air and fires a powerful laser down below.

Final Smash- Porky sends out the Ultimate Chimera, which chase opponents and KO them, if contact is made.[/collapse]
[collapse="By Tepig2000"]Porky fights in a mini version of his mech from Mother 3. He is as heavy as Wario and short as Lucas. He's not a good jumper or runner.

Neutral Special - Porky Bot

Porky sends out a Porky bot that runs forwards. It explodes if it touches an enemy or after 3 seconds pass.

Side Special - Charge

Porky runs forward really fast. It does great damage and knockback and he has some knockback resistance during it, but it knocks him back a bit after hitting.

Up Special - What Did Porky Do?

Porky suddenly appears in some random place some distance from where he was. No one knows how he got here.

Down Special - Stinky Gas

He uses a stinky gas. Enemies hit get dizzy.

Final Smash - Pig King Statue

Porky gets out of his mech and kicks it away, then somehow enters the Pig King Statue. You can press A to swing the statue's arms and B to spin. The statue also damages enemies just by touching them. Lasts the same time as a Landmaster.[/collapse]
[collapse="A Troll moveset by GoldenYuiitusin"]B: SPANKETY SPANKETY SPANKETY
Side B: SPANKETY SPANKETY SPANKETY
Up B: SPANKETY SPANKETY SPANKETY
Down B: SPANKETY SPANKETY SPANKETY
Final Smash: SPANKETY SPANKETY SPANKETY X1000 (instant KO for all)
[/collapse]
[collapse="By PigmaskColonel"]I made a moveset for Porky. :bee: He fights in his bed mech from Mother 3, by the way.

Neutral Special: Stinky Gas
Porky's bed mech sprays out a stinky gas that, when touched, causes the opponent(s) to take rapid 1% damage . The gas dissappears after three seconds

Side Special: Mecha Porky
Porky's bed mech throws out a Mecha Porky that, when it hits the ground, will run around the stage randomly until it hits an opponent(s) or falls off a stage, where it then explodes doing 13% damage with fair knockback. If it fails to hit a player before 5 seconds, it will trip and explode.

Up Special: Electricity Orb
Porky's bed mech jumps up into the air and hovers while charging a ball of red lightning. While charging, the lighting ball does rapid 1% damage when touched, and Porky can also go left and right while hovering. The charge lasts three seconds before striking the red lightning down onto the ground, which does 16% damage with great knockback.

Down Special: PSI Counter Shield
Porky's bed mech sticks it's arms out and immediately creates a PSI Counter Shield that works almost exactly like Fox's Reflector. It does 5% if it hits the opponent when executed, and it reflects projectiles.

A Attack: Arm Jab
Porky's bed mech uses it's arms to send a jab to the opponent(s). Each jab does 2% per hit. When doing a combo for this move, the bed mech will then deal several jabs with it's arms rapidly. Each jab does 1% damage. If A is held down while doing the combo, it will continue to jab the opponent(s).

Side Smash: Lunge
Porky's bed mech will lunge a short distance with it's legs sticking out. Does 18% damage with great knockback.

Up Smash: Electricity Jab
Porky's bed mech's arms create a large red electricity ball (similar to his Electricity Orb) and shoots the electricity upwards. Does 19% damage and great knockback.

Down Smash: Crush
Porky's bed mech leaps up a short distance and crashs back down on the ground. Does 21% damage with fantastic knockback. Also buries opponents if they are directly under the bed mech when hit.

Final Smash: What Did Porky Do?!
Porky's bed mech leaps up into the air and sends a colorful giant shockwave across the screen. Does 30% to opponents and has tremendous knockback.[/collapse]

Doc Ock Porky ideas:

The neutral B would be fury attack (like the mii swordsman's charge attack where it can be charged up and they will fly in the inputted direction while slashing wildly)Custom variants would be charge forward (flies further but deals less damage) and tear into (deals more damage but travels a shorter distance).

Side B could be laser (can be charged but not stored works like Greninja's shuriken but with electrical properties and is an orb) custom variants could be quick laser (quick, travels far but less damage) heavy laser (stronger, shorter travels distance and larger knockback) and stun laser (same as orginal but less damage and stuns).

Up B could be surprise attack, something akin to the tradition of final/penultimate bosses having intangible attacks (moves like Pikachu's up B but has explosive properties when he reappears after teleporting like Sheik's) custom variants could be elemental surprise (random element properties instead of explosions, random damage and knockback) and speedy surprise ( deals no damage but travels further).

Down B could be mini porky (like bowser jr's mecha koopa but chases opponents down and explodes when it gets them and they cannot be picked up, however they are inconsistent because they can sometimes trip and explode before they reach their target) custom variants could be hyper mini porky (move faster deals more damage but more likely to trip) careful mini porky (slower deals less damage but less likely to trip) and adamant mini porky ( while moves the same pace as the original deals more damage but is as likely to trip as the original.

Final smash being the mech (the machine on Porky's back transforms into the mech and he jumps inside) his B moves will be slightly different, the laser is larger and stronger the teleport is replaced with a jumping slam attack which grounds if hitting a target below, the fury slash will have a larger hitbox and deal more damage and can summon two mini porkys at a time, smash attacks and stuff remain the same or similar to fit the mech's movement style.

Misc:
Taunts- Porky does handstands with the mech legs, porkys laughs and pulls out food and eats it (has a 1/128 chance to heal small amounts of damage (max 10 min 2), Porky stick out his tongue (same as taunt in mech)
Entry animation- a void appears depicting giygas and Porkys materialises in the same way he does when he appears at the final battle in Earthbound
Victory animations- a mini porky bring over food only to to tacked out of the way and the food being snatched from it, Porkys throws a Ness voodoo doll and catches it twice in his hand and on the third throw crushes it in his grip while the head shoots off, Porky hops into his mech, laughs and teleports away.
Victory fanfare- a segment of "His Highness theme" or a segment from "Pokey means business!"[/collapse]

PALUTENA'S GUIDANCE

[collapse="by Wintropy"]
:4pit: Uhh, Lady Palutena? There's some kid in a weird robot thing over here.

:4palutena: That would be Porky. He's Ness's arch-nemesis and a consummate troublemaker. Don't let that innocent face fool you, Pit: he lives for chaos and calamity, and he's orchestrated more evil deeds than you can possibly imagine.

:4pit: Evil deeds? He's just a kid!

:4palutena: Evil comes in many forms, Pit. Porky's been around the block more than just a few times - rumour has it that he's immortal, and that he fancies himself as something of a god. He's subjugated an entire world, and his ego is the stuff of legend. He's even built statues in his own likeness just to honour himself!

:4pit: Wow. Sounds a bit like someone I know.

:4palutena: You say something, Pit?

:4pit: Err, nothing! Nothing at all! So, uh, what's the deal with the machine? It's kinda creepy-lookin'.

:4palutena: Oh, that? It's a battle machine built by Porky himself, fully equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and psychic powers. It's also keeping him alive and healthy, even after thousands of years of being a kid. It's your one-size-fits-all evil genius machine!

:4pit: Neat! I could do with a few extra arms like that.

:4palutena: I wouldn't get too close to it if I were you. Try keeping your distance and softening it up before delivering the finishing blow!

:4pit: Sounds good to me! I think this little brat needs a spanking!

:4palutena: Spankety-spankety-spankety-spankety! Just try not to die, okay?[/collapse]
[collapse="by SuperMrpingpong"]
Pit: Um, wouldn't it make me a bully if I beat up a little kid.

Viridi: Well, judging the two people in question, he'd be the one to bully you.

Pit: What's that supposed to mean?!

Palutena: She has a point Pit, this is no ordinary human, he's the meanest, most trouble making boy ever, Porky Minch.

Pit: Porky huh? Well I guess he does look like a Porky, anyway what's this guy's deal?

Palutena: Porky was once Ness' neighbour and supposed best friend, while Ness set out on his adventure Porky would be working behind the scenes to impede his progress, as Ness journeyed, Porky resurfaced as a high priest of a cult, an advisor for a business executive, the right hand man of the embodiment of evil and in another time became a king.

Pit: Wow, I'd love to see this guy's résumé, but how does he fight?

Palutena: Porky has all sorts of tricks up his sleeves including summoning Mini Porkies, using the large mechanical legs on his back to attack and using lasers, also if he gets his grubby hands on a smash ball, he can transform the mech on his back into a battle machine to cause even more mischief.

Pit: So I guess what I have to do is keep away from him and wail on him from a distance, that shouldn't be so hard I mean look at him, the little chubster probably couldn't go five minutes without getting tired and wanting a burger!

Viridi: Well I guess you and him have something in common, huh Pit?

Pit: Hey! I can think without using my stomach! (Although a double cheese would be great right about now...)

Palutena: That could work, however once he gets going Porky can actually move faster than his rival Ness and may become a pain to shake off, but the bottom line is he's nothing to take lightly, be careful Pit, he's a very bad boy. [/collapse]

MUSIC
Porky's Theme
- Porky's overarching background music whenever you encounter him in Earthbound.

Porky Means Business
- Probably what is the most well-known Porky theme, original and all.

Porky Means Business (Tansunn Remix)
- A part of the Rock Candy album of Earthbound songs, an excellent remastering of the final battle music with an orchestra instead of synthesizer.

Porky Means Business (Dedede Jr. Remix)
- A heavier take the final battle music, featuring a faint chorus and organs in the first part.

Piggy Guys
- The battle theme of most Pig Mask fights in Mother 3. You know, because they're Porky's army.

King P's Theme
- The song played by DCMC in Mother 3, also being the one that first hints at Porky's involvement in the game.

Porky's Porkies
- The semi-semi-final battle song of Mother 3. Porky-bots everywhere.

Master Porky's Theme
- The battle theme against Porky in Mother 3. Powerful, serious, and somewhat eerie.

Theme of Bad Boy (Mother 3i Remix)
- A medley from the Mother 3i album on iTunes, including but not limited to Porky's Porkies, Master Porky's Theme, and Piggy Guys

His Highness's Theme
- It was remixed in Brawl under the name 'Porky's Theme', and is the music most associated with the New Pork City stage.

A Tribute to Porky
- A medly of various Porky themes with a very cool video to boot.

Pokey Means Business (Christian Pacaud Remix)
- A very dark, heavy metal version by Christian Pacaud. Featured on the Bound Together Album.

Master Porky's Theme (Haawke Remix)
- A remix of the final battle with an original ending.

Or
Yup! Still not super happy with the different options presented, though. I do think I'd like to see him in some sort of suit or something that keeps him from being directly hit.

I don't really get why Mother should get another rep if it is a pretty obscure and small franchise...

Ah yes, Porky. The villain that everyone hates, hands down. He has my full support.

Porky is a pretty unique antagonist but you have to remember that Giegue did get him started. I think it would be incredible if Porky worked similar to Doc Ock from Spiderman and he could appear in the series with his Porky Means Business/Cease To Exist theme from Earthbound/Mother 2 that would fit with his mechanical move set.

You can add me to the supporter's list. They should add Porky's boss theme from M3

Anyways, I got a few ideas for the FS
-Porky unleashing Giygas from the Devil's Machine
-Absolutely safe capsule
-Porky Mech from the boss battle in Brawl
-"What did Porky do!?!"

I'll join in on this one, Professorfandango's idea with having the bot's arms as his weapons being attached to his back is great. Mind you I haven't played the Mother games yet, so I'm not sure if it comes from the games, but I still think he has immense potential. Plus, the more villains the merrier.

I haven't played Mother 3, but still, how would that work?

Hmm... I think I'll also revamp the OP. Movesets, fanart, Music... there is so much you can do.
Now that I think about it, using that would be a fail because you would be trapped for the rest of the battle, but you understand the other ones right, my best bet is either Giygas or Porky Mech.

Actually I have only played a little of EarthBound, so I initially didn't think he would bring much to table. It was Proffesorfandago's idea also got me interested as well. It just reminds me too much of Doc Ock.

Yeah, I get the others. I would also add the Porky statue idea as another possible FS.

I only completed M3, but I'm playing Earthbound, now, and I'm already past Master Belch, I new about the ending of EB for a while, so that's how I know about the Giygas battle. Which from learning too much about him made me fear those red and black swirls of doom.

Huh, I never really considered the idea of Porky having parts of his machine as weapons. I always found Porky as too much of a "leave all the work to everyone else" kind of character to see him as playable.

I personally support the Masked Man more which I'm sure saying will get me slapped upside the head in this thread but I would certainly still be happy if Porky got in instead. Add me to the support list!

Anyway, yes, like I said, Porky does come off as a bit of too bit of an indirect character. I'm honestly okay with the idea with him, but the fact that he seldom actually fights hurts his chances at being a playable character, I believe.

In Earthbound, he never attacks once when he temporarily joins your party, relying on his neighbor, his little brother, and a bug to fight for him. Throughout the game, you never directly confront him. No rival battles. No instances of where he sticks around to watch you and one of his goonies fight. Nothing but cowardice. Honestly, his role is much more as that of "Giygas' Missionary" in Earthbound. Only when you find him in his heavily armored machine does he even begin to challenge you.

In Mother 3, he has the exact same scenario, save for the fact that he solely relies on his army of Pig Masks, chimeras, and robots to fight for him. Being the "Pig King", it's only in his nature to be characterized with sloth. No other Smash Bros. character has such a major case of letting everyone else do the work. There's always a first time for everything, but it still seems too out-of-character for Porky to have a role as a playable fighter. Porky is just too well-established as one of the villain subtypes known as "The Unfought" for me to honestly see him joining the fray, at least in SSB4.

Again, I'm perfectly fine with the idea of Porky. He's a brat and a great villain, but I just don't see him as very likely.

I'm currently working on a list of counter-arguments.

So far, I have:
1. Mother series does not deserve any more reps.
2. Fighting face to face is out of character for Porky.

Any more?

Also, music suggestions are welcome!

Might want to include "Masked Man is a much more likely candidate." The counter to that would be something as simple as Porky being much more important to the series in general.

Also Dedede is also the definition of a "I'll let my minions do my dirty work" character, the only time he ever fights is when he is forced into a corner. Even in Kirby: Return to Dreamland he's often the comedic relief in the cutscenes, and he even gets so desperate in Revenge of the King in Kirby Super Star Ultra that he sends the blue bandana Waddle Dee out to fight Kirby alone, despite him not standing a chance. The difference between him and Porky is that he has fought before of course, I know that's the big factor, but it's just food for thought.

Despite the Wario Land games, Wario usually has other people do all the work despite the fact that he could easily do the work his henchmen/employees do.

Not quite true actually.

Dedede told Bandana Dee to escape if I recall correctly. Bandana Dee just decided to fight Kirby in an effort to protect his King.

That might be true, I just seem to remember it backwards then.

Based off this conversation clearly Porky will be a King Dedede clone ;D
Yes he will be.

Up B: Super Porky Jump
Side B: Porky bot throw
Standard B: PK Inhale (There is a reason why his mouth is shown always open like that. :troll:)
Down B: Mechanized Arm

There. :troll:

porky would be odd... It would physically HAVE to be the earthbound porky, because in mother 3 he's thousands of yearls old, so old he lost count. He's an old man on life support in his robot.

LUCAS YOU D**K YOU ATTACKED AN OLD MAN
