Come oooonnn... It's pretty fair to say that it's making itself too similar to Smash when that mechanic is very clearly making it play more like Smash. Especially for a game that wasn't designed around the bubble shield mechanic for years, instead playing more like Rivals 1 and Brawlhalla. Adding it in last second feels tacky and punishes hundreds of people who put their time and energy into this game for a long time.Blocking is a basic function of fighting games, not something Smash specific, so I don't think it's really fair to say that it's just there to copy Smash. If you simply prefer the game as is that's fair too, but personally I see this as a potential improvement.
This is going to have to be another agree to disagree, I guess. I like Rivals 1, but I also think that that game was solid enough to not have a shield/blocking mechanic. I do not feel the same about Multiversus and couldn't care less if it's perceived as "more unique" for having less defense options.Come oooonnn... It very blatantly lessens the game's uniqueness and identity in favor of making it a dime a dozen platform fighter, "basic function" or not.
Rivals 1 directly proves that Multiversus didn't need shield to function though. There are so many problems with this game that shield will not fix in any capacity. Them increasing the movement alone would've solved a lot of criticisms. In fact, other MVS players brought up that a burst mechanic and dodges that actually work would've done more for MVS than blocking. This is going to have to be another agree to disagree, I guess. As is, I personally don't think the game functions too great, I'm hoping shields will improve the experience. It's by no means a guarantee but I'm open to some experimentation. I can see why it's a divisive decision, but this is already a pretty divisive game.
You and others may find the addition alienating, but I and others see it as an opportunity for improvement for a game we've stuck with only to be frustrated at every turn.
Unfortunately for the devs, it's damned if you do or if you don't in a case like this.
At the end of the day though, it's already being implemented. At least try it out to see how it feels. If you still feel the same, then continue to voice your opinion on the matter. This is a testing phase after all. If people don't like it, they can walk it back, adjust it further or convert it into a perk like you said. Whether it stays or goes is largely in the hands of the community's reception.
And I would've gladly taken those other options too, but that's not what's happening. I've mentioned before that I agree that MVS doesn't need shields if they can shore things up elsewhere, but they've repeatedly failed to do so, so here we are now.Rivals 1 directly proves that Multiversus didn't need shield to function though. And Elusive rarity means they’re never coming back after this. That’s ****ed up and incredibly stupid.Halloween event has begun.
In addition to the previously announced Halloween mashup costumes, Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and Dr. Harleen Quinzel have released.
Each costs 6 candy and is in the elusive rarity.
You can only grind 6 candy and spend 500 Gleamium for 1 with a limit of 12.
Meaning buying anything else in the store means not getting one of them.
It's truly a wonder why they're surprised they're bleeding player numbers while also doing things like this. And Elusive rarity means they’re never coming back after this. That’s ****ed up and incredibly stupid.
I've seen people suggest that this just means they won't be available in the Store, but can potentially come back for future events. But regardless, this is a big yikes since this not only encourages FOMO, but goes against the "All items will eventually appear on the store and stay there". Matrix Smith and the Rank skins I could give a pass since they're just glorified Palette swaps similar to the Uncommon skins, but these are actual costumes possibly never coming back. That doesn't give a positive outlook. And Elusive rarity means they’re never coming back after this. That’s ****ed up and incredibly stupid.
It actually gives out the Prestige for Rare skins.EDIT: Some people are saying that the skins being elusive might be a bug, as the prestige given is similar to Epic skins

They better hurry up and fix that then. People are already mad about this.It actually gives out the Prestige for Rare skins.
I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt, just as I didn't give them benefit of the doubt that lives in higher difficulties was a "bug"Btw, you can grind halloween coins on rifts. Take advantage of that in case it gets patched out.
I recommend Season 1 Rift 4 with the toasty fights, as those let you wait out the timer (To get the full amount, the timer has to be at 2:30 or below)

Hey MVPs! A quick clarification on Elusive Variants. These unique variants will only be available for a limited time after their initial release. HOWEVER, they aren't gone forever and may return for special occasions. Snag em while you can!

Can't say that's much better since you never know how long until they'll decide to allow us to try for those skins again, but at least it IS better than teasing a skin for six months than only making it available for two weeks and then never again.I definitely think they shouldn’t be elusive in the first place, or, if they had to be elusive, the very least communicated with us ahead of time regarding their release.
That said, there is some light in the tunnel. The in game news ticker mentions how Elusive variants “may return for special occasions”, meaning these variants may not be exclusive to this specific event (someone posted a screenshot of this on a Discord I’m in, but I can’t share it here due to the file not working, if I can get it to work I’ll either edit the post or make a new post with the screenshot).
Now, I’ll admit, most of the Elusive stuff we have now was advertised as Exclusive (ranked skins, Matrix Code Smith), or was available during a very specific timeframe (EVO 2022 cosmetics, Founders Pack items) so it doesn’t stir much confidence, but at least there’s some clarification.
Edit: It’s official:

For point 2, I assume it’s a bug, especially since all three are Legendary in all but name (custom animations, new voice lines (with Bruce Wayne being more lines from Kevin Conroy) and in the case of Bruce and Quinn, changed weapons (i.e. Bruce throws money instead of a Batarang).I'm still not entirely sure about two things.
Why these skins in particular and why do they still give out so little Prestige Points if they're supposed to be so special?
For point 1, I assume popularity. A lot of people were looking forward to Dr. Quinnzel in particular so they knew they’d sell.
I really don't get why people think two characters a season is "too slow". That's a character a month. That's faster than any other platform fighter releases new characters. Any faster than that and they'd run out again like they did back in the beta.I'm gonna be so real, if they didn't bother with a 3rd character for Season 3 when it made the most sense, I doubt we're getting anymore characters per season. Already feels like they're hitting their limit. Ajax and the devs are prolly hyping S4 up because it has the most severe changes for the gameplay as a whole.
The character's gonna be Aquaman. He's been getting updated strings and code constantly. Raven would sell her own battlepass and we saw that PFG tends to tease characters long before they're actually released. Wicked Witch and Aquaman would be pretty stupid as seasonal headliners..
Which is why I don't believe we'll get a 3rd character in S4 if they're already going so fast. If they were gonna do that, they should've did it when Nubia was added. Making 3 for Season 4 is not really needed when the potential line up is already strong on its own. Makes more sense to future proof other seasons.I really don't get why people think two characters a season is "too slow". That's a character a month. I don't think they're quite hitting the limit yet. We know of Marceline, Raven, Aquaman, Wicked Witch, Scooby Doo, Dexter, Ruby Rose (if she's still happening), Pickle Rick, Mr, Meeseeks, Daffy Duck, Gandalf, and one other character in the files we haven't heard anything about, but if teases are to be believed could be Freddy Krueger. Plus whoever else they might have started on in the meantime with the added time the one character a month timeframe has given them.
That's fair. I don't think there's going to be one either, I'm just saying the possibility is open. I think one a month is perfect.Which is why I don't believe we'll get a 3rd character in S4 if they're already going so fast. If they were gonna do that, they should've did it when Nubia was added.
