This new 3DS model features a higher quality screen, a larger screen on the "standard model", colored SNES styled buttons, and most notably, a Vita-styled analog stick, just above the ABXY buttons.

Looks like you don't need that circle pad pro anymore. And you can smash with this "C-Stick".

Will be you be getting one?

- 3.88 inch screen 3DS OG
- ABXY Buttons color coded
- A new stick like button (like a small slide pad stick)- No need for circle pad pro
- Wider 3D sweetspot
-NFC embedded in device
- HTML5 Support
- Faster CPU for faster downloads and browsing
-Removable battery
- MicroSD Card support
- Customizable with skins

Info:
New 3DS
- 3.5 - 6 hrs battery life

New 3DS XL
-160x98.3x21.5mm (329g)

the 3D also adjusts to your location if you turn on a setting (the 3DS camera watches you and adjusts it's 3D projection), so 3D blurriness has been restricted if you want to try 3D smashing.

with the auto-brightness, the themes, faster speed, slightly increased speed and lighter weight, c-stick, slightly bigger screen (on the regular, not on the LL), additional shoulder buttons, among other things i've already forgotten...
i am DEFINITELY getting this on release. getting the regs rather than LL since it has a bigger screen than normal 3DS and is more customizable. also the buttons are kawaiier.

I just saved up $250 last November to get the Zelda 3DS XL...now there's another system with all these improvements that's just taunting me.

It was so difficult to try and understand what Iwata was saying about the new 3ds systems when I don't know any Japanese lol.

It's not going to be available outside of Japan. It was stated specifically.

If this is true, people will still import.

However this is obviously for a limited time. They wouldn't miss out on the north american market with huge innovations like this.

2 new 3ds's, one regs and one XL.

regs has 1.2x bigger screen than before, slightly slimmer and lighter but wider because of the screen. also it has replacable customizable plates. colors are metal blue and metal black, abxy are only slightly colored. selling price is 16000 yen (about 160 USD).

XL has the same size screen, slightly slimmer and lighter but also longer or wider (can't remember which, but it's a very very slight increase), no customizable plates (but the new smash bros and monster hunter 3DS XLs WILL be the new 3DS model and not the old one -- though perhaps this was referring to the japanese editions only). colors and black and white and abxy are colored to match the classic NES controller. price is 18800 yen (about 188 USD).

both have an added c-stick (for smashes in smash and camera in other games -- he basically says they feel dumb for not including it sooner, lol), two more shoulder buttons, a feature that watches your face to adjust 3D projection. auto-brightness, faster speed online. power button, stylus have moved as well.

oh, also it comes with a 4GB micro-SD card... which you kinda have to open the system to get to. but to make up for that they made music and images transferrable through wifi. but if you want a bigger side micro-sd card you have to buy it (and then promptly transfer all your stuff from your old 3ds). both can use the amiibo feature.

the japanese release date for these systems and the changeable plates is october 11th and they intend to have 50 plates out pretty soon (think he said "by the end of the year" but honestly i can't remember). the plates also have matching themes that will go on sale at some point and are usable on the current models of 3DS as well (though i can't remember what the date was for these) -- some of them are free and others are for pay.

I'm only telling you what the man said.

He stated, what can be translated literally as "We have no plans to release this outside of Japan".

He cited reasons as being the fact that Japan plays many games that utilize a 2nd stick, so they wanted to make the concept of using one more convenient since the circle pad pro was anything but.

America unfortunately does not play in to the same types of games that Japan does, Monster Hunter specifically.

Monster Hunter 3 is one of the best selling Wii U games in America. I think we do. I don't even play it so I'm not fanboying but we do.

They weren't planning to release a LOT of things in America but they typically do. In fact, I don't know of any DS variations that were kept outside of America.

He was referring to the new Model called "new" 3DS.
uh... yes. i know.

but the smash 3ds is releasing outside of japan as well, is it not? he showed that the japanese edition of the Smash Bros 3DS is indeed a new3DS LL, it seems weird to me to produce two different models and ship a regular 3DS LL abroad.

It's a "new" model with the same design.

He actually re-stated it a second time, putting emphasis on it.

I'm not saying it will never come to America, I'm just telling you what it sounded like when he said it...twice in a row.

There's no way they're going to release an upgraded system like that and not import it. It'll arrive in America sometime (Hopefully holiday season 2014) since I'm pretty sure NOA aren't going to want to miss out on making people buy the same exact slightly upgraded system again. (NOA knows this is an "Apple" opportunity)

Well, I sure feel unfortunate about this because I literally just upgraded to an XL not too long ago...
Now, unless I upgrade once more the "new 3DS", I will undoubted be and feel a step behind. -__-

The fact that there will be games that will only work with the new 3DS makes me feel obligated to upgrade again (I know I don't have to, but freals), makes me sad. :(

Wah, gotta wait for the US release announcement first anyways before I even decide to think about this.
But, this is good for those who don't have a 3DS or those who are looking to upgrade.

Nintendo UK has confirmed to Eurogamer that the new models will release in Europe in 2015.

Just waiting for America's Nintendo rep to get out of bed from a late night of booze and parties.

I will definetly upgrade myself next year. I'm assuming that's when we will get it because of Europe.

I was thinking on buying the Smash XL but I will have to wait now. Instead, I'll buy the game stand alone, then when the New 3DS XL comes to Europe next year, I will either by the Smash version of that and trade in my physical copy, or I will simply buy the cover plate that comes with a Rosalina theme to decorate it.

Definitetly Peach theme for me. I'm so happy with this. Definitetly something I'm looking forward to.

Crap, I was hoping this would come out before or slightly after smash 4 for us. As I was going to buy a 3ds xl just for it and want to wait. If it doesn't I'll just have to buy one and trade in soon after.

I was just gonna buy a used 2DS so I could play Smash4, but seeing these new models with c-stick and extra triggers, along with some awesome smash bros decals makes me wanna shell out for the whole New XL.
But unfortunately its coming out way too late after the game is being released, I doubt it will sell well at all.

Also has the 3ds battery life always been so terrible?

... it's a upgrade to the 3dss. I think it'll sell nicely. Also it's not like people will just be like "nah I don't want a c stick and 100% chance of compatibility with future 3ds games anymore"

Cool and all but that second pad is a bit..strange. It's so tiny.

Also I just really don't care for the designs of the 3DS beyond the original. They just lack flare... They're boring. My shiny original 3DS is beautiful and can never be replaced. <3

Has that actually been confirmed? Not being sassy genuinely waiting for the date. Lol.
Given that it was confirmed for europe in 2015, it was the expected outcome. We probably won't know a specific date until the new year actually happens.

Gonna be honest, still looks uncomfortable for smash. Button layout will be awkward for short hop and the placement and size of the new circle pad makes me difficult to imagine how useful it will be for me

You're forgetting the GBA Slot.
Just after the Amiibo part of the reveal, it's there.

Its not a GBA slot. Its where the game card slot is.
I don't remember a giant, bulky rectangle that matches a GBA cartridge's size exactly on the bottom of the system being a Game Card slot.
