Okay, let’s flip the “sauce” question around. Who do you think could be a fun surprise pick that not many people are asking for right now that could really win people over thanks to their “sauce” in gameplay, design, and personality? I personally believe a lot of characters I recently named in my last post would fit that bill really well but what do you think? It’s always fun to discover new and exciting characters through Smash you might not have been as familiar with otherwise.
Hmm... I feel like a Style Savvy character could fit this bill somewhat, with different clothing styles serving as a way to buff the character, yet something has to be excahnged. Kind of like the Monado Arts. Just saying, a fashionista fighting amongst Nintendo (and gaming's finest) is certainly popping out in my mind.

I know fighting games already have characters like Fighting Vipers' Honey as a blueprint of sorts, but I feel like Smash Bros. would get a bit more wild with the concept.

If I had to recommend another SNK character as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros. series, I would suggest Kyo Kusanagi, because in my opinion he is as famous as Terry Bogard.
Personally, I'd go with either Mai, Kyo, Athena, Rock, Nakoruru, or Iori.

I don't know why this is happening, but I've recently been on a King of Fighters kick, and while I've always had an interest in the series (to the point that I least knew of SNK's biggest stars (Terry, Mai, Kyo, Athena, the Metal Slug quartet, etc.) before Terry joined Smash Bros.), I never realized how rich of a history KoF had.

I mean, I'll give SNK this... at least THEIR "story arcs" in their fighting games have some sort of 'definite end' in some sense. I mean, I know Orochi is possibly returning at some point, but still.

Well, I'm definitely hoping KOF XV gets ported to Nintendo's next console, that much is for sure.

Another character I’d love to see in Smash but I don’t talk about much is Misako from River City Girls. I feel like River City as a whole has some chance to get a playable character since it essentially pioneered the Beat ‘em Up genre but Smash is much more likely to choose Kunio from the mainline games than Misako. River City Girls has two really fun games and I feel like it did a great job at revitalizing the series and bringing it into the modern era. The writing is really funny and the soundtracks are great. Misako’s my favorite character so it would be awesome to see her in Smash even if she’s not the most likely.

Here’s just a few songs I liked from the River City Girls games:

Opening Theme - River City Girls
Rich - River City Girls
River City Girls Too - River City Girls 2
I’m Better than You - River City Girls 2
Get Off My Lawn - River City Girls 2
Marian - River City Girls 2
River City Girls Anthem - River City Girls 2
We’re the Double Dragons - River City Girls Zero
Opening Theme - River City Girls Zero
Mean Street - River City Girls Zero

Y'know, Infinity Nikki recently came out. Maybe that could be used as a basis for a Style Savvy character in Smash.

It gets worse.

Some even tried to claim Sakurai was hinting at Crash in Banjo's trailer.
How?
Because Banjo was trying to get pancakes from the giant Ivysaur at the end.

And Crash said "pancakes" once. (They used this to claim pancakes were his "favorite food".)
Those days were so funny because as a Banjo fan myself I'm pretty sure when that came up I was like "Uh, no, that's literally just Banjo stealing from Ssslumber in Mayahem Temple" because overthinking is hilarious lol

The fandom as a whole had a bad habit of using the previously announced DLC to drum up the "next one".

After Banjo, Crash came back in full force.
After Byleth, Cinderace was totally next.
After Steve, suddenly Jonesy was a lock.
After Sephiroth, well of COURSE Eggman is coming. He's obviously a missing piece!
After Pyra/Mythra, how about all four Champions of Hyrule, yeah that makes sense right?

Etc., etc.
I think this is another trend that I’ve always kind of k own during speculation: fans thinking they sense a pattern after every single reveal.

I particularly liked the Banjo trailer theory that K. Rool would fall all the way through the ground into Undertale. Yes I saw that a few times.
Insane theory aside, I always thought it was cool when the trailers had some sort of continuity inbetween them.

Aside from just K Rool, things like Sephiroth slicing Galeem before the WoL trailer or Sora appearing from the initial flaming Smash logo teaser were always neat to see.

Did that come before or after the Sans Mii Costume? Cause it would be insane and yet hilariously coincidental if it was before the Sans Mii Costume reveal.

I guess reading too much into stuff is another common thing in the Smash fandom.
The funny part is, as much as people bust on the chair theory or whatever, Sakurai tweeted about his eyes being red before the August Direct.

And then the Bloody Tears arrangement leaked that following night, so you could assume that's what he meant. But then K. Rool was revealed and it made even more sense, lol. There were a million times where people saw things that weren't there, but I don't think some are quite as ridiculous as people say. I mean, a lot of them are, but they only look silly now because they were wrong.

Purple and yellow chairs, an oddly Skull Kid textured set of pillows and that plant... I'm just saying I can't totally fault those who bought into the chair theory.

That would have been before the Sans costume, which was revealed a few months later... huh, I guess we were onto something after all.

So I recently beat Astro Bot, a fantastic game, and it inspired me to do a whole challenger pack write up for Astro Bot/Astro (They are inconsistent on what that little dude's name is)

Various spoilers below, a few bots, concepts, levels, and costumes.

--Gimmick--
Astro's Double Jump is a brief hover where lasers come from his feet and those lasers deal damage.

--Basic Attacks--
Jab: 2 forward punches (Astro's basic attack)

Side tilt: A forward kick (The same kick he does when saving a bot on the ground)

Up tilt: A fast uppercut

Down tilt: R.O.B. Down Tilt

Dash Attack: A spinning Lariat

Side Smash: A Punch with the Twin Frog Gloves, it functions a lot like Min Min's forward Smash.

Up Smash: A Mario Style Headbash

Down Smash: A spinning lariat

Neutral air: an Aerial Spin attack

Forward Air: A Mario Style Dunk

Back Air: A kick Backwards

Up Air: A sweeping punch upwards

Down Air: Muteki - Astro Turns into a ball and drops downward with a lot of force

--Specials--
Neutral: Bow - Astro pulls out the bow and arrow from Astro's Playroom, it functions like Link's bow for the most part. It is much faster, and Astro can move while it is charging, the arrow is faster but cannot be picked up once it hits a surface.

Side: Barkster, The Bulldog Booster - Barkster appears on Astro's Back and Astro is propelled forwards, anyone Astro hits takes damage, and the initial takeoff is a sweet spot.

Down: Wire pull - some wires appear on the ground and Astro pulls them up, Astro then plucks out either some food, a Mr. Saturn or rarely, a bob-omb

Up: Chicken - The Rocket Chicken appears on Astro's back and Astro is propelled upwards, it is a vertical version of Barkster

Final Smash: Dual Speeder - The Dual Speeder appears and Astro jumps inside it. You then aim the Speeder the same way you use the Dragoon or The Lightning Chariot.

--Grabs--
Basic grab: Astro grabs the opponent with both arms

Pummel: Astro headbutts the opponent

F-throw: Astro tosses the opponent forwards with both hands

B-throw: Astro spins and throws the opponent backwards (Mario B-Throw)

U-throw: A simple upwards toss with both hands

D-throw: Astro throws the opponent on the ground and uses the Muteki to stomp on top of them, this grounds the opponent

--Animations--
Entrance: The Speeder appears and Astro jumps out of it

Up taunt: Astro puts on a PSVR headset and starts looking around.

Side Taunt: Astro flosses

Down Taunt: Astro does the Carlton dance

Idle Animation: Astro looks at the screen and waves

Victory 1: Astro does the dance where he dabs after doing a little jig

Victory 2: Astro appears in front of a bunch of bots who are cheering and Astro waves towards the camera, the photo mode bot also appears in this crowd

Victory 3: Astro does the end of the Crash Dance

Team Victory: Astro waves towards the camera

--Alts--
1: The Default Blue Astro

2: The Red Astro from The Playroom VR

3: The Green Astro from The Playroom VR

4: The Golden Astro Outfit from Astro Bot

5: The "Tooled-up Mechanic" Outfit from Astro Bot

6: The "Gravity Shifter" Outfit from Astro Bot

7: The "Wandering Trespasser" Outfit from Astro Bot

8: The "Lovestruck Lyricist" Outfit from Astro Bot

--Kirby--
Kirby's Head turns into a Bot head (but without Mimir's outfit)

--Stage--
The Mothership - The stage takes place over the length of a PlayStation 5, the PS5 is moving slowly in mid air and many bots and animals can be seen standing on it, The auxiliary ships (Other PlayStation Consoles) can be seen flying past the Mothership, each one having various Bots on it, these bots are the various VIP bots.

Occasionally, Big Brother will appear in the background and stick his hands out to act as platforms.

Sometimes Asteroids and Lost Button Galaxy Platforms will appear and act as platforms as well.

--Music--
Victory music: Stage Clear (Astro Bot Rescue Mission)

Remixes:
I Am Astro Bot
Crash Site
12-Bar Bot
I Haven't Thought That Far Ahead
Botdi Beach

Regular music:
ASTROnomical
Disco Tree
Bite It (Gorilla Boss)
Hatch A Plan (Bird Boss)
Come On Then (Alien Boss)
Tite Mites (Crystal Cave)
Follow Me (Into The Storm)
I'm Your GPU
Memory Meadow
Astro
Papa Tree
A Fire In Your Mind
Bot Of War
The Strength To Stand Alone
Spike Bot
Drake's BOTune
Going Loco
Muteki Funk
Windswept
Retro Rampage
Credits Clash

--Classic Mode--
Name: Robot's Rescue! (Characters who are robots or are VIP Bots in Astro Bot)

The First - R.O.B.

The Second - Joker

The Third - Snake

The Fourth - Ridley (Meta Ridley Alt)

The Fifth - Ryu & Ken

The Sixth - Mega Man

The Boss - Galleom

--Series Icon--
The Astro's Head Logo, seen throughout the franchise

--Boxing Ring Title--
Robot Rescuer

--Mii Costumes--
Pipo Monkey (Brawler)
Kratos (Swordfighter)
Nathan Drake (Gunner)
Aloy (Swordfighter)

--Misc--
When KO'd in Stamina, Astro inflates and explodes like when damaged in the games.

Still, IIRC he did ask people to stop taking everything he does as a Smash hint. But when has that ever stopped us? :4pacman:

Well yeah of course, if he's randomly posting about getting ice cream it doesn't mean we're getting an ice cream related character. A photo of his cat doesn't mean we're getting a cat. But I think within and in the lead up to Smash presentations, it's a bit more understandable to keep an eye peeled.

Hey guys, since we know the switch 2 will come out this year, do you think we may see a smash bros announcement at the very end of 2025 or somewhere on early 2026?

Also, what do you guys think of Raven Break from Metroid Dread going to smash? I know he's dead but still. He left a lasting impression.

Yes, I do think a Smash Bros is on the way. Sakuari has confirmed to be working on a game, 99% sure its gotta be Smash.

Raven Beak would be amazing, but considering how long we had to wait for Ridley? And the fact Metroid got 2 newcomers last time, and Dark Samus having probably the best chances of all Echoes to become "Luigified" (this term isn't used anymore shamefully), and the fact Sylux is gonna appear in Prime 4 gives Raven Beak some competition.

Am down for him however.

Are there any songs you'd really like to hear for your most wanted characters? I just recently discovered Riot Games' music videos based on League of Legends and a lot of them are actually really cool and would make for awesome songs to fight to in Smash. I'm sure many of them would be too difficult to license due to being performed by established artists but they'd be cool if they could somehow make that work.
Here's my list of some music themes I'd love to hear for my MWs. A few of these I mixed up together to make one theme like they do in the Smash series.

Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden series)
Unbreakable Determination (remix) - Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Pushing Forward - Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Masked Devil - Ninja Gaiden NES (fan remix)
Depth of Wickness / Information and Coercion - Ninja Gaiden (NES)

I hope Sakurai does a presentation from a blank white background so I can see how the Smash fanbase contorts that into some kind of hint.
I know you describe as to make fun of the Smash fanbase, but I would love to see Sakurai on a green screen just "teleporting" into different backgrounds/areas, some with different weather effects, before he "teleports" into the trailer for the new character behind him and he's like, "Oh, there seems to be a bit of action behind me. Let me move over here real quick and let's see what's happening." I'd be down for a trailer reveal like that.

The only other newcomer trailer I want to happen is to literally start with the US' Smash 64 commercial trailer with Mario, Pikachu, Yoshi and Donkey Kong frolicking into the field and just before it gets to the part with Mario tripping Yoshi, all of the sudden:
Crash Bandicoot suit guy just appears out of nowhere from off-screen and starts taunting Mario and the gang before Mario just decides to trip him and then CB Suit guy is like, "Oh, you think it is on?! Well it's on-er now!" and proceeds to have the characters beating up each other like the Smash 64 US trailer until all of the sudden, the characters are sent to the video game world and it shows Mario, Yoshi, Pikachu and Donkey Kong go from their mascot outfits to their Smash versions and then it shows CB Suit guy becoming Crash Bandicoot and Crash yells "Yeehaw!" before the tagline comes in.
That, IMO, would be one of the greatest Smash Bros. newcomer trailers if it happened like that.
