Nintendo Reveals a Few Switch Successor Details

Nintendo_Backwards_Compat.jpg

Nintendo's President Furukawa announced two details about the Switch’s successor today. For starters, the upcoming console will have backwards compatibility with Switch titles. Secondly, the Nintendo Switch Online service will continue on the next console.

Unfortunately though, that’s where the new information ends. Not much else is known about the Switch’s successor at the moment. Luckily though, Furukawa also stated that more information about the upcoming console will be announced in the future. The date Nintendo will give us more information is currently unknown as well. However, given that the Switch's successor is slated to be revealed in the fiscal year it's safe to expect news before March 31st, 2025.

Author’s Note: I’m pretty happy to hear about the backwards compatibility. Always felt the Switch’s weak point at launch was the lack of that, even if it was for understandable reasons. But what do you think? Please let us know in the comments below!

Whether or not I stick to my Switch 1 depends on how cool the games are.

New 3D Zelda or 3D Mario? Yeah I'll get it. Anything else (including Smash) I can wait until it gets a price drop.

Will DLC (and updates) to cartridges be backward compatible? I really hope they are, 'cause- (counts game cartridges) I have at least 20 Physical games that didn't come fully updated.
