Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokémon Company shared news about a variety of Pokémon topics this Pokémon Day. There’s a bunch to go over, so let’s dive in.
First off, we got news about the Pokémon World Championships. For the first time, the world championships will be held in Japan. Players will compete at the Pacifico in Yokohama, Japan from August 11th-13th. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Go, and Pokémon Unite will be the games played. The key art for the world championships this year was revealed as well, pictured above.
Next up, we got a brand new reveal for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The Pokemon Company is launching Pokemon Trading Card Game Classic alongside nendo and Creatures. The cards in this set cannot be used in official tournaments (with the exception of energy cards). For players that want to relive the old days of the Pokémon TCG, this will interest them. We will be getting more news about this at the Pokémon World Championships later this year.
Pokémon is also partnering with Netflix to create a new Pokémon show: Pokémon Concierge. This Stop Motion show will be developed by Dwarf Studio. The show is about a bunch of Pokémon that will show up at a pokemon resort and the concierge who takes care of them. No release date was announced yet.
Pokemon Unite was the first game shown off today. It was revealed that the game has had over 100 million downloads as it heads into its second year of service. Zacian was announced to be heading into Unite, with large slashing attacks and special holo wear. A special event was announced: Adventure in Zacian’s Weald. Taking part would let the player get Zacian’s unite license and other rewards. There also is a boss rush event going on that also has rewards. A gift code, POKEMONDAY, will let the player get a gold Zacian Emblem until March 26th. Finally, an Asia Championship League invitational was announced to be happening, concluding on March 18th-19th in Malaysia.
Next up, we have Pokémon Cafe Remix. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly arrive from the Paldea region, desiring a new Paldea dish. In this event, you will be able to add one of the Paldea starters to your staff. Great Chef Greninja will be given away when you log in until March 17th. Several five star chef pokemon from past events, such as Victini or Celebi, will be available. You can get a 11x express delivery without using any in-game currency until March 17th.
Pokémon Masters enters three and a half years of service. A special Champions event is happening. The new sync pairs are Hop (Champion) and Galaran Zapdos, Bede (Champion) and Galaran Articuno, and Marnie (Champion) and Galaran Moltres. These sync pairs will be launching throughout the week and will be available until April 9th. Leon and Charizard are also returning. Logging in will also let you scout up to 100 sync pairs for free, with 10 Pair/ticket scouts for free every day. A bonus 3000 gems will also be available from today until March 27th.
Pokemon Sleep was also shown off. Snorlax and a new Professor, Professor Neroli, were shown off. To play this app, you just leave your smartphone next to your pillow. This will record your sleep pattern and type of sleep. Pokémon that sleep like you will sleep near Snorlax and you depending on your style. You can research Pokémon’s sleep patterns while learning about your own sleep patterns. This app will be launching on IOS and Android this summer.
The Pokémon Go Plus + accessory was also revealed. It can be used with Sleep to help measure your sleep patterns. The Pikachu can sing you lullabies and work as an alarm. It also works in Pokémon GO as an improved Pokémon Go Plus which lets you use Great and Ultra Balls. Linking this accessory to GO will let you get a special research for a Snorlax with a little night cap. This accessory should also be launching later this year.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are getting some more content for free. The new Paradox forms of Suicune and Virizion, Walking Wake and Iron Leaves, were revealed. Walking Wake is a Water/Dragon type, while Iron Leaves is a Grass/Psychic type. These will be available in a raid event later today once you download Patch 1.2.0. Pokemon Go compatibility with Scarlet/Violet is also in the works. Pokémon Go’s gifts come with postcards, which when sent to Scarlet and Violet will change Vivillon’s pattern. Sending postcards from GO will allow players to catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul, which when 999 coins are collected will evolve into Gholdengo like in the mainline games. Finally, Pokémon HOME Support will be launching for Scarlet and Violet early this year, though there was no hard date revealed. Gimmighoul’s Roaming Form will be one of the pokemon that is able to be transported in fromHOME, as well as plenty of others.
The last announcement today was the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This DLC, titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will launch in two waves. The first wave, The Teal Mask will be out this fall. In it, you will visit the region of Kitakami during a school trip. Ogerpon was revealed to be at the center of this DLC wave, as three new Pokémon Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti. Old Pokémon such as Milotic and Ninetails will be returning in this wave.
