Q&A for quick questions

Several of the other character forums have a thread like this and I think it's a great idea for dealing with simple questions requiring simple answers. There's nothing wrong with asking a question, but if it is something that is very general I think it is best asked here. Hopefully this will leave the forum for more nascent discussion and advice giving. So if you've got something like "how do I short hop with sheik?" or "what's a _____?" you can post here instead of starting a new thread. I hope people find this useful

It's true that the sheik threads aren't as active as some of the other ones, but that means a lot of the same questions get asked over and over again. I've lost track of how many times the short hop question has come up.

It can't be done. Certain characters can angle tilts and smashs, and the jab is neither. I suppose the second jab could be considered angled?

That's an up angled jab. I've accidentally done a down angled jab playing with my friend before. I was just wondering if it's random or if anyone knows how to do it.

thats pretty easy:

your position: hanging on the egde

what to do:
-drop
-up + b

first part of the up + b up, then down

if u do it right ppl cant hit u, try it on brinstar

Wow, your right, there it is. Sorry for doubting you Rohins. I have no idea, could be that the jab tracks on its own?

Edit:
about the shino stall, you gotta make sure you let go of the ledge immediately after you grab it from the up b other wise you won't be invincible the whole time.

Ok, I've got one of my own now. What's a jab cancel? phanna says that Rohins is jab canceling in his post about angled jabs, but it's not in alphazealot's dictionary thing and doesn't come up in the search. Thanks in advance.

Jab cancel is jabbing then pressing down during the IASA frames and jabbing again. It allowed you to repeat the first jab (or first two, depending on your character) with out continuing the jab combo.

You can also do it by just holding down back and tapping A (not so fast you go into the combo though).

umm i sware i just saw this same topic..it was mildly confirmed that sheik's jabs kind of go towards your opponent when they are in the air...or from my views at least :D

word...also take a look at The Glitch's trick guide thing...a little more advanced, but with some masic stuff...its pretty cool to see

yomi's right, definitely read the guide and watch the vids, but this place is for answering questions so...reverse needle by tapping the opposite direction before pressing b but make sure you let go of the direction or else you'll do a side b. Needle cancel by shooting needles in the air and landing before the animation is over. This allows you to quickly go into another attack or (often my choice) a grab.

I'm currently trying to learn how to wave dash and am having a hard time with Sheik. Is this natural for the character and is it possible to wave dance with Sheik as well as any of the other SSBM characters?

well, shiek wavedash seems harder and kinda useless compared to other chars, but u really need it on a higher level.

Sheik's WD is pretty easy imo...i remember using her the first time and i could wavedash pretty good..it wasn't a perfect one at first, but hey whatever. Also, different characters have different timed wavedashings. bowser and link are really slow sheik is decently faster. My advice if you want to improve wavedashing is, be luigi go to final destination and practice with him..its kind of in the middle..but take the combination of buttons and slow down a lot until u get what looks like a SH airdodge. Then speed up the WD combination and there ya have it! then transfer that practice to sheik and get the timing for her down

So I think I can shino stall properly (submerged in acid on Brinstar), but one time when I used it in a match against a friend he managed to WD back and get the ledge and forced me to up-b onto the stage. Is this normal? Should I be doing the explosion lower or something to prevent it? Should I just try to see it coming and do a ledgehopped air? He was playing Marth btw.

Preference. I wouldn't use the stick though since you may angle your shield. About the shino stall, I've managed to do it really close to the edge so that the explosion is just barely above the ledge. Can this be edgehogged also?

you need to wd with sheik to space your tilts and make dancing around more fun. wd out of shield is huge for sheik given sheik spends a lot of her time punishing the lag on other people's crap especially vs most low tiers and characters with crappy grabs/grab range.

which stick is that? control? cuz I know that using the c-stick will do it automatically at the first possible opportunity just like with rolling, but can you short hop with the c-stick? I hear that jumping out of the shield to a nair is a good way to deal with falco's pillaring, but do I need to short hop to do it? It seems like every time I try I go too high and end up above. I recently got the chance to watch some really high level play first hand and I noticed some things that I don't normally look for. One was that instead of shield grabbing they would often jump out of their shield into some airial. My instinct has always been to shield grab so that's gonna take some serious effort to break. None of them were playing sheik but I think it would still apply, correct?

since sheiks grab game is really good, especially in NTSC, it´s not wrong to grab out of shield (if you can... dont overdo it) and you can really do any combos out of a shieldhopped Nair

Shieldgrab is easier to get in, IMO, because it comes out in 6 frames, whereas nair you have to jump which is already jump startup->5 frames + nair startup -> something like 4 frames, so your window of oportunity is bigger for Shieldgrabbing.

C-stick never tilts the shield. Watch drephen, he's really good at shieldgrabbing falcos.

in the sheik vs ganon matchup..since both characters can chaingrab...if you wish to counterpick sheik vs ganon..would you prefer a good chaingrab stage like FD? or a platform stage? where would you counterpick ganon and why

When playing against the Doc for how long should he be able to chainthrow me. It seems like sometimes I'll get chainthrowed for about 40% or even more, and other times I manage to tech out of it right away. Is it that I'm DIing well or he's just messing up his grabs? How should I best handle this situation?
