Plup’s strong placements in recent tournaments include: 1st place in GENESIS 5 Melee Singles and Doubles, 2nd place in EGLX 2018 Melee Singles, and 2nd place in Noods Noods Noods: Oakland Edition Melee Singles. Plup’s dominant performance with Sheik, Fox and Samus brought him to 5th place on the 2017 SSBMRank power rankings.
Other Melee players to be sponsored by Red Bull Esports include Mustafa “Ice” Akcakaya, and formerly William “Leffen” Hjelte.
Red Bull announced the sponsorship near the beginning of Smash Summit 6, wishing Plup luck at the tournament. Fans interested in watching Plup’s first tournament under Red Bull can watch Smash Summit 6 on Twitch.
Correction: Initially, we erroneously reported that Leffen is currently sponsored by Red Bull Esports. He is no longer one of Red Bull's sponsored players. The article has been edited to reflect this.
