I have read all the guides and tried doing searches to find what I was looking for.. I got on youtube and watched some stuff, but I'm trying to figure out how to effectively use the needles. I understand the different techniques of turning around in air through charging, the approach/needle canceling.. but I have a hard time using them in game. Also I feel like I can't use them quick enough and get on the ground to make the approach work. Any advice or video link? (Sorry if the post is kinda ambiguous.) I just kinda need some situations maybe, or something I can do in training mode to improve.. or just someway to tell if i'm doing things right.

you just need to get a feel for the speed at which they travel, and the spacing for aerial needles. Needles are great for stopping your opponent's approach. They are effective for edgeguarding various characters. needles canceling can give you lots of options for mindgames since you can often follow up with an aerial or another jump. Using needles to turn around gives you a great edgehog option and also allows for certain mindgames. Aerial needles can lead into grabs quite well (needle-grabbing). And of course, a fully charged set of needles does quite a bit of damage. There's a lot of things you can do with needles, just watch some vids and notice the various things that sheik players do. A lot of the things you can do with needles comes pretty intuitively the more you play.

I have a related question about needle-grabbing. I've been trying to get it down for a little while now, but there always seems to be lag when I hit the ground. Is there any particular advice on where I should be when I throw the needles?

It looks like Sheik has lag because she bends her knees when she lands after aerial needles. But in reality, you can move out of the lag 4 frames (1/15 of a sec) out of the landing.
