A lot of it probably just has to do with him being out of the spotlight for so long tbh.

Tbh that's the problem I have. Outside of like 2 characters, there's no real clear choices from the series, just a bunch of characters on equal playing ground with nothing to really make them stand out. Pokemon has the anime to help influence choices, Fire Emblem just has popularity polls.

Er not quite.

The choices aren't random in the slightest. All those choices are the main characters of their game/s.

That aside if every character has to mean something.

Marth - The original
Roy - First Handheld
Ike - First in 3D
Robin - First major avatar/Revival of the Franchise
Lucina - Popular Female character who got lucky/Revival of the Franchise
Corrin - Game that sold a but ton/First game to have multiple versions

They all have their merits and are iconic to Fire Emblem in some way.

Zelda: Linebeck (or at least put him in Hyrule warriors)
Kirby: Adeleine
Pokémon: Primape
Star fox: Panther caroso
Punch out!!!:King hippo
Donkey Kong: Funky Kong
Animal Crosssing: K. K.

And now (even though I know this is a little off topic from your trend) characters from obscure franchises:

Excitebike Racer: Excite bike

And those are my options, I don't claimed that "I won't buy the next smash bros. unless this characters appear on it!" But it definitely would by neat to see them.

I mean, yeah, the series has tons of characters, but very few are actually important in the grand scheme of things. If Smash is anything to go by, only the main characters seemingly get picked. So for each of the games...

FE1/3/11/12: Marth
FE2/15: Alm and Celica
FE4: Sigurd and Seliph
FE5: Leif
FE6: Roy
FE7: Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector
FE8: Eirika and Ephraim
FE9: Ike
FE10: Ike and Micaiah
FE13: Chrom, Robin, and Lucina
FE14: Corrin

But from there it could be reduced even further since almost half of those are already in Smash. Add in the fact that FE4 and FE5 get virtually no love from IS nowadays and that only further simplifies it.

FE2/15: Alm and Celica
FE7: Eliwood, Lyn, and Hector
FE8: Eirika and Ephraim
FE10: Micaiah
FE13: Chrom

So really it's only like nine other characters at most who truly have a remote shot, but that's not even considering relevance is key for them, so most of those probably don't have a shot at all. I mean as far as relevance is concerned, Alm and Celica have Echoes being the current latest game (the Switch game will change that though), Chrom has the amiibo and Warriors (but whether that'd be enough to change Sakurai's current stance is shaky at best), the FE7/8 characters only have their appearances in Heroes, and Micaiah has literally nothing.


So in essence...basically none of them have very good odds by virtue of the upcoming Switch title existing, haha.

Yes, all FE characters currently in the game who are not clones/semi-clones are unique but also yes, some of them could have been so much more than what they are now.

I think it's less wanting unique Fire Emblem characters and more dislike of Fire Emblem in general.

I generally want the main characters from obscure franchises, not so much obscure characters from already-represented ones. That being:

- Mallo (Pushmo)
- Chorus Kids (Rhythm Heaven)

I like a lot of characters, but generally that's all I'm asking for within Nintendo's IP.

Chorus Kids might be debatable as main characters, as there are other RH fans who think Karate Joe or someone else better represents the series, but I would just prefer these little guys.

• Krookodile (Pokemon)
• A sidekick of Paper Mario's
• At least one individual from the Zelda Oracle games
• Adeleine from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Fire Emblem character discussion? I don't have much that's nice to say, so I'll refrain from joining in that topic.

Going off main characters from obscure franchises, there's a couple I can think of.

• Chibi-Robo. The original game isn't for everyone, but I gave it a shot after playing through the recent Zip-Lash platformer. Between those two games alone, I'd say he has plenty of potential. Would love to see this little guy make the cut.
  
• Isaac. Isaac would be pretty cool, even though I've never played any of the Golden Sun games. I've done a lot of research on him though. Has a lot of interesting abilities that would be neat to see in Smash.
• Ray Mk III. Like Isaac, I was first introduced to him through Smash Bros. I saw Mk II as a trophy in Melee when I was a kid, and thought he looked really cool. Fast forward to Brawl's release, and the Mk III was one of my favorite Assist Trophies to get. This pick is for that younger version of me.

I'm sure I can think of a few more if I really thought about it more.

I'd agree with anything retro. Imo Balloon Fighter and Takamaru have a solid chance because of the retro rep tradition, but unless Sakurai or whomever changes the way they pick the characters, I don't really see any post-SNES characters having any sort of likeliness to make it outside of ones that are relevant to this day.

Only outlier I can see is a Rhythm Heaven character because they were already planned.

The closest thing to generic human swordsman can be Lucina and Marth only. That's it. Rest have powers, which remove them from being generic. And Corrin is part dragon, removing him from being a human.

So no, that statement is really shortsighted and you should actually do some research before making statements that will blatantly infuriate the fanbase and people who actually know what the characters are like. I think something that people need to keep in mind is that not everyone plays the game or sees the obsession. Purrfect Cell wasn't wrong to make the callout in this case, but if you want people to love characters from a series you support, you gotta show them why. From face value, Fire Emblem looks like waifus and generic sword characters, that's just how people will look at it without further context.

Is it frustrating? Absolutely, but it's something every series has to deal with. Try being a Starfy fan, and having to explain that he would bring more to the table than Luma. It's better to just roll with the punches then punch back wildly. People that were already weary on the series aren't going to give it a chance by being called ignorant. Even if it's true, it's just not the right way to go about, take it from me, someone who has not done themselves any favors in the past.

Moreover understand that people get worn out on the series. It happened with Pokemon during the Brawl era too. I remember not so fondly seeing so many fan made rosters with 10 Pokemon and 5 more Pokemon trainers. It was none of my business, but I just couldn't see why people would want THAT ****ing many Pokemon in the game, and Pokemon is one of my favorite series.




On the otherside, understand that people are free to like what the like, and want what they want.

As worn out as I am personally of the series, Fire Emblem is a great series worthy of the fanbase it has. Awakening brought in the first era that Fire Emblem finally looked like it wasn't only off the deathbed, but had a future. Fans are excited, the characters are very interesting and unique, naturally people are going to want to see these characters make an appearance in one of their other favorite series.

There's also Style Savvy and Swapnote(well, Nikki. I'm pretty sure Nintendo wants to forget all about Swapnote). Out of all these characters, I'd say Rhythm Heaven and Takamaru are the most likely, simply because there's evidence of them being heavily considered as fighters.

Tethu's feels like AT material, I'm sure he could do something with terraforming. I have no idea on the extent of his abilities though.
I think STEAM is only likely to get music and trophies, cause it kinda dropped off the face of the earth after release. An AT is certainly feasible though cause there's easily enough material for that.
