The Nintendo Switch 2 has Officially been Unveiled

After many months of rumors and speculation, Nintendo has finally unveiled their new console: the Nintendo Switch 2. They have posted a video highlighting how the console is different from the original:.

The video begins with a look at the original Switch before it begins to morph into the new console. It highlights how the new joy cons now attach to the system using magnets, rather than sliding on. We also see a usb-c connector on top of the console for charging, a new additional c button on the right joycon, additional shoulder buttons on the joycons, and an updated joystick design. The system itself is also larger now, and is shown to be backwards compatible with games from the original Nintendo Switch.

Before the end of the video, we also got a brief look at a new Mario Kart. The brief footage showed off a new desert track, lots of new kart designs, a redesigned Donkey Kong, and much more.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will release sometime in 2025. A Nintendo Direct centered around the Switch 2 will release on April 2nd.

Me on my way to pick up my overpriced remaster

Anyhoo, here’s my wishlist for the April Direct:
  • New 3D Mario teaser
  • Confirmation of a new Smash Bros.
  • New Animal Crossing teaser
I SCREAMED when I saw that like wtf did they do to my boy?!?

Also, I noticed there's 24 spots on the tracks for drivers. Looks like the new Mario Kart will double in drivers on the tracks now.

The track did seem very large when they panned out. I wonder if retro courses are going to be back at all if the aim for this game is t make everything bigger. I personally am fine with taking a break from retros for a game.

Not only that, but there were two road signs blocking off what seems to be an alternate path on the other side of the road, right before the racers drive onto the dirt. Could that mean that the new tracks are going to be designed from the ground up to have unique laps, like the Tour city courses in the Booster Course Pass?

It's interesting to see how the console and marketing has transitioned to focus on adults. It seems that they're focusing on maintaining the Switch's current consumer base, which did contain a great many children (including myself, back then) who are now either adults or almost adults. This is probably why nobody's complaining about the system being larger, since it's being made for bigger hands that aren't gonna take a game console to work or to a college lecture. As someone who's on the fence about buying it, the marketing is kinda swaying me. All that really matters now is the pricing. I will not be buying the Switch 2 if it costs $400 and the games are all $70. Not with the way the economy's projected to go. A second USB-C port just ain't worth it. I'm also not enthusiastic about giving Nintendo my money, not only because of their anti-consumer practices but also because of what they did to Donkey Kong. Hashtag Not My Dong!

Donkey Kong getting a design change doesn’t bother me too much. He’s likely becoming a bit more expressive, which is neat.

Now Peach’s (and by proxy, the other Princesses) design change does bother me a bit. I liked the biker outfits. Let’s just hope there’s some technicality, like an alt costumes or Peach wears her dress just for ‘scooters’ or ‘mopeds’.

Switch 2 is cool, probably gonna buy it near launch with Mario Kart.

the Switch 2 certainly seems like it'll be a great console, really hoping that some of the glaring flaws of the current Switch don't transfer over because that'd be such a bummer. super excited to see the titles that'll come out eventually on this console!

There'd better be a new Smash bros sometime in the future. I'm craving the competitive scene of a new release again. Nothing is as fun for me as everyone maining wildly different characters, figuring out new tech and matchups, seeing new obscure players in the limelight one after the other.

I'm predicting within 1-2 years from now
