Acclaim also came back, but they are strictly a publisher, so I can't imagine them doing anything all that interesting. Argonaut's return made more sense, they made games like Croc and I-Ninja. I-Ninja is peak by the way.

The thing about Pokemon is that it's not only one of the most popular and best selling game franchises worldwide, it's also one of the few Nintendo franchises with very competitive playerbases with a fairly deep and respectable meta, and tons of online gameplay functions and modes so that players can trade, communicate, battle and more, in addition to also being a turn-based RPG with a leveling system.

With it having been about six years since the last Smash game came out, and nearly four since the last DLC character for it was released, there's not going to be as much talk about Smash Bros. here specifically for a while. And with a new Pokemon game on the way, of course Pokemon talk is become prominent for a while.

With that said, that doesn't mean other games aren't going to become the main topic for a while. Tears of the Kingdom was being talked about constantly here when it first released, and talk about it still continued frequently for a while afterwards, and there was a fairly long period a few years ago where there was little talk on at least one or two social threads about any Nintendo games other than Fire Emblem: Heroes, and another time before that where Xenoblade Chronciles X was the main talk of the boards, and then there was literally all three Splatoon games so far. There's also been tons of talk about Metroid Prime 4 with there finally being information on it, and Mario Wonder and even Pikmin 4 got quite a lot of talk here when they were new games, and those are just a few more recent examples. That's not even getting into non-Nintendo games.

While Pokemon talk is probably always going to be semi-frequent due to how much there is to do in the games, I'd hardly call this site mainly just being about Pokemon at this point. The Pokemon talk is probably going to temporarily die out a bit after Z-A's out for a while along with any DLC it gets, while the next games that become the next big topics of discussion here afterwards will probably be games that are nearing release or already just recently got released, Smash itself absolutely included. Besides, most of us probably wouldn't be talking about Pokemon here if the site wasn't dedicated to a Nintendo/general video game crossover fighter series.

Uh, I guess to keep it Nintendo related, I'm close to 100%-ing both F-Zero 99 and Mario Kart 8.

In F-Zero I've managed to take 1st in all Grand Prixs (Or Grands Prix? Idk, baguette or something) with all 4 vehicles, so now it's just a game of waiting for the weekly rewards to refresh until I have them all.

In MK8 I've done everything except 200cc time trials for the Booster Course... Courses.

Man, the city tracks from Tour are a nightmare.

They're way harder to memorize than any other tracks due to the routes being different every lap, and there's hardly any worthwhile shortcuts that the ghost doesn't also take, so if you so much as graze a wall it's really hard to catch back up.

For the booster pass courses anyway. I did it for the base courses. I have gold Mario.

Pokémon is fine. It just always seems to be relevant when I’m hyperfixating on something else.

I made a joke about this about a week ago, just saying.

But honestly it is true, we talk about Pokemon more then any other video game franchise/Nintendo franchise on here. Feels like we don't really discuss stuff like Mario or Zelda that much at all. The Social Thread is filled with Pokemon fans more then anything else.

And then folks like me force Donkey Kong in whenever you can.

There is that rumor(that i think is BS) that theres a switch 1 direct happening. If not that, if ai see it in the switch 2 direct, thats an instant buy for me

Eh. It’s hard to get hype for directs anymore because I’ve been getting mostly scraps for years. I have never “eaten well” at any of these with maybe the one exception of that one where they revealed the looney tunes sports game and a few other stuff. It’s been hard to get excited after smash left.

There actually was a dedicated board for Pokemon discussion a long time ago (there was also one for F-Zero!), but it was discontinued in favor of the NintenZone board. In it's hey-day pre-3DS/Wii U, there were regular tournaments and art contests where users could be awarded special titles/banners and post-bits to show off.

Personally I'd merge the NintenZone and Gaming boards at this point, but I'm also not an Admin who can make that call.

I mean, if we/users wanted us to, us Mods could be harder on re-directing discussions like we used to I guess (by which I mean 10~15 years ago). But there are also only about ~100 truly active users at this point to manage and a dwindling Staff presence (a certain Admin has announced they are stepping down, in at least in terms of their role behind the scenes, I'm not sure if they plan on making an announcement thread) so it's kind of moot.

IMO, I'd probably merge/archive some of the unused boards together and restructure the Mod Staff to promote activity.

Ex. NintenZone/Gaming and Ultimate General/Online/Videos all merge together. And move Serious Discussion to a sub-board under General Social like Arts & Creativity.

Yeah most people talk about Mario, Ratchet, Jak, Sly, Pac-Man and Sonic when it came to 3D platformers during that era. Wario too to a much lesser extent. Other than that, it's only the really BAD games that get attention like Ninjabread Man or Vexx being seen as Ultra Mid. So any respectable 7 or 8 outta 10 games got swept under the rug, IMO. I-Ninja was my favorite of those types of games.

Then most of the console 2D games like MMX8, Network Transmission(although that one seems WEIRD) or Klonoa 2 also got much less attention, compared to handheld titles.

Which is really funny, cause shortly after, you had Mega Man 9 and 10, and particularly Mario Bros. Wii that put 2D back on the map for the most part for the platformer genre and now 3D feels like a rarity.

From what I understand, Absolute Batman is currently woke because they made Bane a super muscular guy. Also Venom in Strive somehow lead to more Bridget discourse despite those idiots not noticing that Venom's black and canonically gay, with Elphelt not even bothering flirting with him. Though that might imply they play Guilty Gear cause Elphelt was shook at the idea of a man not being interested in women back in Xrd

To be fair, it would be completely in character for Nintendo to shadow drop a mini or partner showcase with no prior announcement.

I’m thinking it’s a mini. Partner showcase is unlikely because a big draw of the Switch 2 presentation will be highlighting third parties they can get how. Same with indies. Like Silksong for example. If the release rumor is true, then it could easily be its own announcement in the switch 2 direct. Something I think Nintendo knows would be more hype. Especially if they secured it for limited console exclusivity on switch systems .
