I was just wondering why Lightning mode isnt so popular? Thats all me and my friends play and when we go back to regular melee, its to slow. Anyone else play lightning exclusive round here? Why hasnt it really taken off? it seems way more intense than regular.

because playing in lightning melee takes most of the nuance out of the game. When things move that fast, precision becomes basically impossible, and not a lot of fun.

Lies, i use it to train so that i can read my opponents attacks very well. the more you use it the more diligent you become. so please only use it until you have to go into tourneys. Think of the hyperbolic time chamber from dbz.

That's fine to believe, but like shadydentist said, percision isn't accurate. Moves end up becoming different when playing on regular speed at a tournament. IMO. The transition from lightning to regular would be too great.

Take Fox for example. His WD is pretty much instant, as you have to press X/Y and L/R with little time in between. So when on lightning mode, it's impossible. Or at least it is very hard. Or taking someone like Luigi whose WD has a slight pause in between the buttons. When in lightning mode, the pause is way less. When going back to regular, WDing with Luigi would be much different.

This is a little more situational. But if it's to enhance your reflexes, that doesn't really work either. Let's say you're a Fox against a Marth. The Marth runs to grab, but you dodge. The playing on lightning mode causes you to dodge as soon as you see the Marth dash. It happens too soon, and the Marth can punish you.

If you want to build your reaction time, than just play on regular mode. That way when you have to play someone else, you don't have to convert your playing speed.

lightning mode is good to practice some tech skill with, but other than that I don't find many other real uses for it.

Its worked wonders for my reflexes and there was no drawback between switching speeds. i have been doing this since i got melee. and i almost never get hit by grabs and such, it gives you god like reflexes, but everything is not for everyone. thanks for the feedback, but i dont dodge to early and slow mo is the only one that would screw u up before a match, best used for accuracy training.

You know what's really really amazing? Playing Ganon in lightning mode. His lag shapes up perfectly in that mode. It's like Captain Falcon mixed with Falco. It helps if you actually play Ganon somewhat >_>

Don't do it too often though, it might mess with your timing a bit...

It gives you the ability to intercept combos because your eyes become quick, but dont over do it or you'll have an ocular headache do to the strenuous activities that you put your eyes through, but you can overcome it in time. Why do you think nintendo is marketing "Flash focus", which is training for your eyes.

LOL Sliq...

I do know someone who can play lightning melee with no loss of tech skill. If I'm going to play one of those silly modes, I like Giant, Stamina, or Invisible melee. I'd rather just play regular most of the time, though..

Yeah I usually do a Special melee once in a while to break the monotony of VS mode. I shinespiked my buddy's Fox out of hit up B in lightning Melee not once, but twice in the same match :chuckle: that's precision for ya.

Wow. As if you're so fast in regular mode you just cant bear to not play lightning mode. You have NO idea what speed is, and some players can move 2x as fast as you do in lightning mode, in normal melee. Believe it.

@SLIQ I know exactly what i am talking about and rapid_assassin said that he knows someone that does not lose their skill during the transition. You have never played me therefore dont doubt my abilities, just because you can't do it doesn't mean I can't.

You guys are dumb. The special modes are for having FUN. All video games are for having FUN. Lightning mode was not made for practice because the game was not made for anything but to have fun. You people are way too serious about a fricken video game, and don't call me a noob because you and everybody else in the world knows I'm right.

In my opinion Lightning Melee sucks. Executing smash attacks takes too much effort. . I'd rather play Slow-mo myself.

Sudden Death Melee ftw. :0

Lightning melee is ok, I guess. Like what other ppl already said, it's harder to be make more precise movements here than in normal mode. I prefer slow-mo melee, personally...but to each his own =p

@SLIQ Did it hurt when your mother dropped you on your head when she saw your face?
I was hoping that you would turn out to be a kid, and it turns out you are a legal adult. A legal adult on the internet calling people names.

I'd probably end up shooting you.

Okay, so I'm a noob because I have fun....that makes perfect sense.
You assume I don't have fun playing. Don't make baseless assumptions, because they never play out well for the assumer (i.e. you look like an ignoramus).

I am new to Smashbo
ards and i dont know how to look for tournaments in nyc.

When I played casually from launch up to about 2 years ago, Id say I played lightning like 80% of the time. With me maining Young Link and my friend as Link, it made the game feel a lot more faster like we were playing fox lol. Overall, it was just really fun back then. Now though, of course I never touch it.

Lightning mode is a bit funny if you ask to play a next match and weren't there at set-up. You start playin and after the match is over, you notice "Lightning Match" or whatever says in teh corner, and you're like, "really??"

I honestly don't see much difference between the speed modes if you get used to the reactions...
