Worried about Wi Fi

Heres the truth, I am an OK player when it comes to Smash. I can beat most of my friends some of the time and I would consider myself an OK player.

But I'm a little skeptical about playing Wi Fi because I think every match I enter I will get destroyed because I don't have as much time as other people to practice my skills.

Is anyone else worried about this or am I the only OK Smasher in this forum?

I wouldnt worry to much, I have played Pokemon Battle Revolution quite alot for the past few weeks online.

Sometimes I meet Uber abusers(Hello Palkia/Dialga/Mewtwo/Deoxys/Lugia/Kyogre teams =_=)

Sometimes I meet uber noobs (Oh hi lets use a battle pass from PBR with crap pokemon OR lets use my party pokemon from Pearl/Diamond while I have 3 badges >.>)

But I meet a lot of decent trainers, good teams, great strategies, propperly trained Pokemon and all.

Im thinking it will be the same, sometimes, you'll get stomped, sometimes you'll meet a noob who just got this game as his first Smash game and who lays with the Wiimote sideways, but I think you'll meet some decent people to battle online.

Play for fun, not to worry online about getting creamed online.

If you win, you win. If you lose, well try again. Some days you will have a terrible losing streak, and others an average day, with a couple of winning streaks. Just don't let it get to you and you should be fine. If you keep trying, you will notice that you will start to get better at the game. Basically, practice makes perfect. :)

So what? Isn't it better to loose to good players with the hope of getting better than to dominate your local noobs and make zero progress?

In my happy place now.
I'm not great, just ok, but I'm not worried about losing in Wi-Fi.
It's not ranked, it's completely anonymous, and there's no penalty for d/cing(though I'll never d/c).
So I don't see any reason to worry about losing.

Im not to worried, I usually beat my friends and Im kinda tactical. Tough dont be worried, playing online will probably make you a better player because lvl 9 CPU's are stupud.

Im a little bit above an ok player, but thats pretty much why there arent records kept in With Anyone. The whole psychological barrier thing. You shouldn't worry about getting owned online, it'll probably help you improve if you do get owned.

Oh I'm in no way worried about my record or anything, what I'm worried about is not even having a chance to do anything.

I mean come on, would it be fun to respawn then die in the next 20 seconds without even being able to do anything? Not for me atleast.

I dont understand why people are so worried that brawl will end up like dbz. Brawl is going to be one of nintendo's top games so i'm sure they are going to work hard to make sure the wi-fi isn't horrible. As for dbz I pretty much think that nintendo crammed the wi-fi in without really caring since dbz wouldn't be a really big seller for them. Its all about priority and its safe to say that brawl is one of nintendo's top priorities....the wi-fi will be fine

I think you have to realize that there are MILLIONS of people that DON'T go to these boards. A problem alot of people here have is that they think they are surrounded by better Smash players because they go to these boards so much. There will be 5 year olds playing this game. There will be people who have never played a Smash game in their life (until then) playing this game. There will be people who probably picked up Melee (or Smash64) in its prime, played it, and moved on to completely different games during the 6 year haitus between Melee and Brawl playing this game. Basically, the majority of the people you will meet online when playing Brawl will NOT be hardcore Smash players, and a good portion of that percentage probably won't even be avid gamers at all. If you've been playing Melee for a relatively good portion of that 6 year timeframe until now, I think your general skill level should be WAY above the people you'll meet online (not that Brawl will be at all similar to Melee (everyone will have to relearn what they learned in Melee), but you should have a good handle on the game mechanics (I.E. dodging and general attacking and controls)).

And also, as people have said, ironically, there's no loss to losing. You won't get a bad reputation, and there's no punishment for doing so.

I'm 12, so I'm EXPECTING to get KO'd like that. But I'll mostly be playing with my friend(s) that are also 12. Though I am a pretty good Smasher, some people on these forums and out there will beat me easily.

Don't worry about online too much. If you're correct in what you are saying, you'll be better than the majority of online users, at least on Random. There's no permanent record, so you can play for fun. Everyone will have to get used to playing this game, so there's no rush.

Whats to get worried about? If its a friend then you know how they play and if you lose no big deal. If its someone you don't know, thats just it, you don't know them. So just play and have fun, no one is going to judge you on skill because they don't know who you are. Its a game, have fun with it :)

This topic's pretty unique. It's, perhaps, the only topic on Brawl's Wi-Fi that addresses an issue of being too competitive, rather than the usual complaint of not being competitive enough. That's refreshing to see, I guess.

My fear with Wi-Fi is not being able to find appropriate opponents. Without any form of ranking system, there will be no automatch function that allows you to find battles against people of similar "ranked" skill level. I know rank does not equal skill, but it could help people find appropriate opponents.

I doubt I will be anywhere near as good as most people out there, but at the same time (as another post pointed out) I don't want to be playing against little kids or casuals who have no experience with the series. One sided match ups like that aren't fun for either side.

Getting owned is a learning experience. If you really want to improve, train with people you meet on Smashboards. Lord knows we have to community to do that. You won't learn anything (ie. realize your need for improvement) without losing to the best players.

This. Then again, this is also the reason you might want to play against players that are worse than you, as they'll be able to learn something, too.

i think if ur worried about being too weak in Brawl Wi-Fi u should probably play the adventure mode first before u go into Wi-Fi that way u get used to the speed and mechanics of the game.

thats what imma do, imma beat adventure mode and try to unlock all the characters then finally go online and get ready to BRAWL!!

I don't think it will matter much, I see it as something to do when you don't have anyone else to play and you just want to practice a little. Online with anyone > lvl 9 computer amirite? lol. If you come across some really good people just do your best, you get better when you play against people better than you!

Well I heard that if you go to tournaments and play, you will improve a lot. I'm sure the same thing applies to online matches. If you're playing a really good player, you'll probably lose, but you will continue to get better.

Yeah, I have a similar worry...but the more you play online, the better you get. An example is Medal of Honor Heroes 2 online gameplay. I use to suck at it, but now I can frag nearly anybody, after having played many matches.

And just thinking about being able to play human Smashers at any time is making my mouth water :lick:.

I'm not worried one bit, I am completely confident that I will win the majority of my fights online. Wi-Fi ftw!! :bluejump:

edit: the best thing about wi-fi is that you can be fighting pros that will give you a run for your money, if you can beat level 9's in Brawl, then the next step would be wi-fi in my opinion, just got to practice.
