How to mac

Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U
Okay, You saw the title. That's it. I'm going to teach you how to play little mac the "Right way" or at least the way that will get you the most wins.
This is a beginner to intermediate guide
(this is obvious)
Step 1:
DON'T START WITH A DASH ATTACK!!!
I can't tell you how many people I see run in and the FIRST THING THEY DO... is well ya know. Dash attack. If you've ever seen Alpharad on youtube you know that you of all things shouldn't dash attack. It's slow, it's not much percent, it's not easy to follow up. Just don't use it very much.

Step 2:
Learn how to bait with little mac
This sounds simple right?
"stand around and wait for your opponent to do something" you're thinking.
WELL NO
It's just like if you are going fishing. You don't just drop your fishing pole in the water without a hook or worms.
You have to do attacks that you know won't hit your opponent. Use your jab mostly because it will beat out most weak projectiles. (like samus's missiles,or duck hunt's clay pigeons). And it creates the most noise which will annoy your opponent to no end ;)

Step 3:
use little macs downwards tilt.
a downwards tilt is the attack that isn't a smash attack
It has a hurtbox(the area in which someone will get hurt) active on frame 3. You know what this means?
This means if you use this they can't grab you (unless they have tether AKA link, toonlink,Samus,Lucas).
Little Macs down tilt sets up an opponent perfectly for a sideSmash at low percents and at high(er) percents a side B.

Step 4:
Dash around for no reason.
This will confuse the opponent online and make them think that you are planning something when in reality. You don't have to be. If you are good for you but All you have to do to make your opponent nervous is dash from side to side on the opposite side of the stage.

Step 5:
Abuse his side smash.
Little Mac's side smash attack has little to no ending lag (time it takes for him to be ready to do other stuff)
In the time it takes the opponent to try and grab you from their shield and you've side smashed. They are gonna get a hard fist-to-face conversation.

Step 6:
recovery problems.
More often than not people tend to forget about KO punch being an option when it comes to recovering with Little Mac. If someone hits you off stage and you have a KO punch. Start mashing that B button because that's your only hope of recovery with little mac.
The only other thing that can help you recover will be your wall jump. Practice this and google how to do it because I am no good at describing it.

Step 7:
Killing your opponent.
That is the goal of the game right?
Generally using your up smash and side smash will make sure you kill your opponent relatively easily. If you want to play it safe you can use your sideways tilt(the not smash attack that's a two hit combo).
If you get annoyed of your opponent rolling use your down smash slightly more but be careful. It will leave you open.

Done
You've learned how to play Little Mac for the most part. Just don't forget to NOT USE DASH ATTACK.
Have a great day

Step 1:
Dash attack is actually very quick, and a decent punish. The problem isnt dash attacking, but dash attacking on shield, especially when the opponent is camping on the ledge.

Step 2:
What are you even trying to say here? You shouldnt try to challenge projectiles (just shield them, no point risking damage). Mac is better at punishing your opponent for over-extending themselves than baiting out moves. What you should have said was "space yourself correctly and use mac's low-cooldown moves like down tilt and jab to apply pressure and catch your opponent trying to punish you." Mac controls space with his quick moves, and if your opponent tries to wiggle their way in, they get hit.

Step 3:
This is actually correct. Dtilt is mac's go to move. You can combo into just about anything.

Step 4:
This is nonsense. This kind of advice wont help anyone get better. "dash around for no reason." No, there IS a reason for it. Dashing around "for no reason" lets mac stay mobile without sacrificing access to his ground moves. But the way you word it seems to suggest that people just be random instead in hopes of throwing players off, instead of having a gameplan.

Step 5:
There are better punishes. If you're too close, fsmash will cause you to punch right past them and miss completely. Ftilt, sweetspotted upsmash, UpB, sideB, etc. This isnt really even advice. Nobody playing mac is going to overlook fsmash; his isnt even the strongest in the game. A better tip would be to make use of his super-armored moves.

Step 6:
Is this a joke? KO punch as a recovery option? As your only hope of recovering? Are you high?

Why would you throw away an almost guaranteed stock lead for some very minor horizontal distance and weeks worth of endlag that will likely render your attempt at recovering meaningless?

And bonus points for being too lazy to describe what an effing WALL JUMP is.

Step 7:
Oh no, dont talk about kill setups or nothing. Just say "use the moves that hit really, really hard" and call it a day.

Conclusion:
Really? 7 steps? 7 (really bad) steps is all it takes to be able to play little mac "for the most part?" Not even effing close. All this will do is create more For Glory Macs, spamming smash attacks and dashing back and forth "for no reason."

Why is it people who clearly have no idea how to play a character take the time write up so-called "how to" guides? It's even worse when it's information thats been regurgitated after having learned it from somewhere else.

"Dont dash attack! Alpharad said so!" Yeah, listen to what alpharad says, not any of the actual little mac mains who know the character inside and out. Alpha made those "how to play 101" videos, he clearly knows a lot about smash.

Ridiculous.
