See, and there's nothing wrong with liking Brawl for the reason of being on equal grounds with everyone else. It's the NEW game that has a lot going for it. The metagame is fresh and ripe for development. Hell, even now people are finding ways to play this game that weren't apparent a year ago. For those that say it is stagnant, they're uneducated on the nature of fighting games. There's almost ALWAYS room for refinement. I can even cite Melee as a good example of a game that is still seeing changes in the way it's played, even after all of these years. But the problem with that is, well, where do you begin? The players that you'll be playing against will be so far above in terms of experience and/or skill that it's hard to get in there. It's easy to get discouraged.
Accessibility is another thing. What does Melee have, honestly? A couple of relatively dead threads being bumped every so often? Maybe a tournament here and there? Brawl has consistent, lively threads (which are spammy and negligible much of the time, but the threads that matter are way more active than the Melee ones) and tournaments being held for it ALL THE TIME. On even a minor footnote there's even (blarg) WiFi, which is no substitute for playing in person with somebody but it's a nice tool to get a general grasp of the game.
I still play Brawl, despite my dislike for it. *shrugs.* I live close to Monk/Honkey/Banana and a couple of local Tampa Smashers that prefer Brawl. Hell, I'm even willing to LEARN about the game from these players simply because it's fun to talk about. I'm cool with going with the flow, playing whatever everybody else is playing at the moment simply because it doesn't matter all that much to me. It's a shame that people just can't enjoy themselves for that reason: Being in the company of people who share a common interest.
Division doesn't matter all that much to me, really. They can go ahead and be zealots about silly ****. I'm cool with doing my own thing without jeopardizing everybody else.
