Gamestops are doing midnight releases for Brawl. People are going to go to gamestop to pick up brawl at midnight. That's about it.

Actually, it is less than 4 days away. Also, daylight savings time isn't till 2AM. If you're picking up the game at midnight, you are actually losing time to play brawl.

Are they only giving out preorders at the midnight release or can you walk in and buy one? The store 20 minutes away from me is having a midnight release, but I haven't preordered or anything, I just plan to show up. I know the store is getting ~200 copies. I can't imagine every one of those...

It's not going to happen. They aren't video files, they are instructions for the game to recreate the scene exactly as it happened when you recorded the match.
