Well, it's simple - he didn't free the Slaves, at least that wasn't his main concern. Lincoln's primary goal with the Civil War was to unite the union. He, while opposing the constitution and wanting to actually get rid of it, wanted to maintain the strength of the union to solidify his power.
While in office, Lincoln ordered Union troops to fix elections in the North, suspended Haebus Corpus, and even deported a man who had opposed him while he was running for Senate.
On top of everything else, the Civil War was a vastly illegal war because the Southern states had ever right to secede if they wanted to (the constitution is an agreement).
This summary isn't the best, but it's a good start. I really encourage you to read two great books: Force into Glory by Lerone Bennett, Jr. (A black PhD, which is great because a lot of Lincoln proponents will gladly call you a racist for opposing their idol, when Lincoln was notorious for his racist humor, his opposition to freed slaves while working as a lawyer, and his serious consideration of deporting all blacks back to Africa to get them out of his country). The other book by the Anti-Lincoln scholar Thomas DiLorenzo: The Real Lincoln.
Their biggest goal with destroying the Lincoln myth is to restore credit to the people who deserve it: the true emancipators who wanted to free slaves. In fact, we are the only empire who got rid of slavery via force instead of the government paying the owners to emancipate the slaves (as even the large British Empire did).
Sorry for the wall of text...
