I feel the most logical game to compare Multiversus to would be PlayStation All-Stars. A lot of the stuff MVS is acclaimed for were done first in PSASBR (down to super specific stuff like unique KO animations in minions), and both of them have unique rules to distinguish them from Smash rather than unique physics like other platfighters.

Multiversus is a very different game to NASB, I don't get why you'd single them out for comparison, even in good faith, without also putting games like Rivals of Aether; Icons; and Rushdown Revolt in the comparison - one is a team fighter with characters from all mediums and a focus on new, relevant characters and easter eggs + callbacks to please fans; while the other is an "anime" platform fighter exclusively featuring animated children's television characters with a focus on decades-long nostalgia and competitive play. One can't really be better than the other when they're not even aiming for the same goal. It's equivalent to comparing Super Mario 64 to Crash Bandicoot.

This dumb meme video made me realise: I feel an IP showcase crossover movie could really work well as one thing: a shot-for-shot parody kinda like those weird Pooh's Adventures videos that everyone memed on back in '16 - just on a professional budget instead of existing clips with muted subtitles. Like, if Disney remade A New Hope in animation with an all-star cast of the characters they own - swap Luke for Bart; swap Vader for Scar; swap Yoda for Miss. Piggy - with the only change to the fundamental script being characters' personalities in their dialogue. It'd be bat-**** crazy, but a good type of bat-**** crazy that's still got a good plot beneath the gimmick.

I kinda want to have a go at "de-designing" some recent Smash characters to be less like source material ports and more like "functions", but the problem is that the only three post-Brawl characters I'd consider myself qualified to make a moveset for, Rool; DH; and the Pacster, all have movesets I feel are well designed and not too gimmicky or pandering.

While I totally understand being disappointed by no -immies, and agree that they're weird exclusions (even if I don't care too much if they show up or not), it's kinda funny to see fans of the 00s Nicktoons games complain about how major shows "wouldn't have been left out" if NASB was made around '06 when the THQ games were pretty laser-focused on shows that were still airing; in recent memory; or selling merchandise at the time, with the only real exception being Toybots, which was still focused on 2000s shows and only featured playable 90s characters on the console version. They absolutely would've left out hugely influential shows like Ren & Stimpy and Hey Arnold in a THQ NASB circa 2006, or at the very least only had 2 or 3 "retro" picks - and those shows were younger then than shows like Jimmy Neutron and FOP are now.

I feel a common misconception about NASB is that it's trying to be "a serious esport" - which is technically true in the sense that it does want to be a competitive game people play with complete sincerity, but what often gets missed is that NASB wants to be a funny eSport - one that incorporates the silly elements of casual play into competitive while still emphasising skill and deemphasising luck. I'd compare it more to Brawl Minus than Project M. The signature Nicktoon silliness is systemic to the game rather than specific to the characters like in MVS or flippable on-and-off like in Smash.
