I like how the new Mario Strikers tones down the cyberpunk edge a little, but keeps the trademark high-tech imagery; sassy characters; and sporting violence. My only complaint is that I really dislike pipes and brick blocks being in the stage backgrounds.

While it was and still is one of the biggest sources of confusion around NASB, I think going for a competitive game was a really smart move - Nick are famous for making cartoons that appeal to both kids and adults alike, why not make a game that's both silly enough for kids to laugh with and complex enough for teens and adults to dig their teeth into?

I think NASB's approach would be more appreciated by casual players if the game launched with items - it was never meant to be some super serious no-casuals-allowed afair, it was supposed to be a silly kids game with hidden depth under the hood for competitive players to dig into - more Crash Team Racing than Street Fighter - but a rushed release date caused a lot of casual content to get the cut.

if a Chuck E. Cheese animatronic was put in a local pawn shop, people would be fighting tooth and nail for it - there'd probably be a collector who travels on a god damn aeroplane just to get to that pawn shop - uh, rawn shop - it would not be bought for the sole purpose of advertising local mini-golf.

Sure, you could argue "Questy's" is a cheap off-brand chain nobody cares about, but the fact somebody built an entire, fully accurate Questy's in VR tells me either A. if this is a fan project, Questy's fans in this universe are just as devoted as Showbiz Pizza fans in our world, or B. if this is official, Questy's is popular enough to monetarily justify an official Questy's VR experience, in which case die-hard Questy's/Cometeers fans and/or historians almost certainly exist.

I feel creation threads have kinda taken on the same accidentally-different-from-intended life platform fighters themselves have, just in reverse.

Smash was designed to be a wacky party game but ended up being deeper, leading people working on similar games to want to make more competitve experiences; while Smash Infinite was meant to be (or at the very least comes off as) a forum game about making big fan wishes come true and realistically predicting the Smash team's next move, but people were more interested in adding their own personal touch and thus all creation threads afterwards have embraced bias and absurdity over wish-fulfillment.

It's funny how EarthBound is infamous for having a bad marketing campaign, but nowadays is the only retro game Nintendo does any substantial advertising for - and arguably better marketed than a lot of their recent releases. IIRC the Wii U release was promoted in cinema trailers.
