  • Nobody every said you were conceited*. I WILL say that you're officially in the majority of people from the smash community who cant read for whatever reason. XD

    __

But all that aside, I hope you realize you've done absolutely no advertising for this and you have no posting of rules anywhere.

I mean you want me to tell people to come (which btw, I'm sure I've told you this before but there are no smashers in central GA, whatsoever.), but there's no way to convince anybody knowledgeable to come to a smash tourney without a ruleset posted somewhere. Especially since smash has an absurd amount of rules with 2 or 3 different variants.

You telling me "I'm using standard rules" is really an oxymoron, because standard doesnt tell me stage set, and it also doesnt tell me if it's cp/ban or stage striking.
I'm just saying (I know ya wont come but you could tell other people) that LOI's tornament is on the 26th it will be hosting melee AND brawl

Just copy/pasting that for you as im sitting here in front of you.
yeah. Do I know where the tabor building is? Not specifically. And considering it's on the 26th, I might actually not go seeing as I might go to the Waba monthly. I dunno yet.
    OMG 4REAL IKNORITE BRO

melee and brawl? kool. I'm glad you guys aren't just sticking with Bawl. er, i mean Brawl
yeah dude i got raaaaped. decimated 4 stock ownage.

reflex uh huh. the guy who gets out of a grab after one pummel @ like 60% lol
I got 2nd in melee. Absolutely no surprise since Chops was there.

    Kismet won brawl
    I won SF4, that's all that happened.
yeah, had like. 13 or something. It was just me and people from atl, though. Mostly brawl players, but 3 of the melee players came down.
    Eh, that sucks.

Hate to say it, but im not really surprised at all. I also wont be too surprised if they stop holding melee tourneys soon. :/
Um, they never said they were ONLY having a tourney once every month, they said they were doing monthlies. Big difference.
lol, definitely was one at LG. Nice to know you still dont look in ATL South. You're keeping on par with the rest of warner robins. XD
Eh, staying in shape is just consistent practice (practicing tech and playing against people, which is both halves of the game.)

    Getting better revolves
    1) Practicing to either make your tech more consistant and/or practicing new tech.
    2) Practicing against competent people and either working to iron out strategies or trying to impliment new stuff.

Practicing tech is more than just the pressing buttons. It's practicing being able to do stuff consistently, spacing, timing, etc etc.

Practicing against somebody is for the mental part of the game, being able to read people, having strategies and counterstrategies vs characters, being able to work stages to your advantage (or avoid disadvantages), etc etc.
Not, not at all, for various reasons.
    1) I know how to practice to get better. Alot of people actually dont know how to do that.
    2) I play the game enough to keep my skills, and I know how to practice to get in shape for tourneys. Most people DO know how to do that.
    3) Smash isnt THAT hard. Unless you're like, a ridiculously over-technical, top level player, if you've played enough to get said tech, you shouldnt really lose it. That's why alot of top level pros literally go on like, half-a-year hiatuses and come back and STILL finish top in tourneys.
I'll take a stab in the dark and say all you practice is tech. That's really just half of practice.

There's really 2 parts of any game (really, 2 parts of being good of anything), your technical ability and your mental ability. Mental in smash usually gets the catchphrase "mindgames" (which is a HORRIBLE misrepresentation of the word, but again, the smash community is notorious for misusing words).

I pretty much can safely say that, even if you do the right stuff to practice some of the mental, which would be watching videos and actually practicing various things again people, I know that because you live in Warner Robins and dont go to real tourneys, you have no real matchup experience whatsoever. That's a must have for being good.

Like I keep trying to tell you, I go up to LG often and have no problem going up there sometime to play melee, where I would actually be able to teach you stuff. But realistically, going to a random tourney isnt really going to do too much.

You happen to be going to LG today? Because im not going to the waba monthly. (Because I dont really feel like going up there to more-than-likely lose)
Yeah. It's the same with anything you ever want to get good at. Good, efficient practice. I mean, think of a pro football player. They dont practice once every month. They practice every day on one thing or another.

What a lot of people dont realize is that same concept exists for getting good at games. If you look at any top level pro of a real game, they do the same thing. I mean, take Daigo for example (Japanese 2-d fighter pro who just won SF4 at evo. I'll be amazed if you've never heard of him). But after he won EVO, they interviewed him, and somebody asked him how much he practiced for the tourney. He said he practiced 5 hours a day. Most people were actually surprised he practiced that little (although since he was only doing SF4, and it is SF4 instead of like, 3s or Super Turbo, 5 it plenty)

    But you get my point?
see, it's like I said, you're not really reading.

It's not so much of me having "better" things to do as it's literally not worth it. Unless these tourneys happen like, twice a week, there's really no point.

I mean think of this, do you remember everything I told you from that one day. Cause it wasnt alot, but it was pretty textbook and important.

If the answer's no, what's the point of going like, once a month?
You have to realize how many times i've tried to teach somebody anything and it's the same result. Realistically, me showing up to random tourneys isnt going to do anything. What's going to get you guys good is you going to real tourneys and playing real people. That's the best way to get good.

I mean, if it just came down to playing, once a month, or however long it takes for said tourneys to roll around would be a joke for it. It'd really take playing 2 or 3 times a week for a few hours.
Well, it's not like im going to go out of my way for some random prize tourneys, unless it's actually something worthwhile to somebody like me.

Its not like im going to get any real tourney experience out of it.
Yeah you should have went. I had such an amazing time.

Scott and Sean will probably be over at my house on the 22nd for smash, you want to go?
hmm, yesterday was the 2nd saturday of the month, and I linked you to the region board (which you said you go to anyway)

    lol
... when i told you to edit messages a while ago, I meant that because you would send me like, 5 in a row on my profile. I didnt mean just edit the last one EVERY time you have to say something. A new notification doesnt pop up when that happens.

Community that rivals what? Smash? Yes. The "Fighting Game Community" as it's collectively called. When compared to them, smash is a minority, really. (Smash players want to believe they're the majority, but what actually happens is smash brnigs in waaaaaaay more scrubs).

If you're talking just genre vs genre, then yeah, other genres bring in alot more than fighters.

and way to not show up to the tourney today.
I'm not sure. Professional usually implies that a person makes a living doing what they do, however I've heard most pro gamers have sponsors as a sole prerequisite. Professional as a term is very general, but for smash in particular I would say just participating in nationwide tournaments and placing high - often high enough to make a name for yourself (and lotz of cash I suppose).
the way i see it, the definition of a pro would be anybody who makes a living off of playing smash, which nobody does.

The way the community sees it, the definition of a pro realistically is any popular person who's good.
what im saying that, in smash, pro is just a title that's thrown around. There are so many variations of "what a pro is" and "who falls under pro", but realistically it doesnt matter. Smash is the only fighting game community that does that, but smash does alot of dumb things that gets them hated on by the FGC anyway.

People in the smash community get hung up over pointless stuff like "being a pro" or "being the best _____ character" when none of that really holds weight when it matters. Alot of people in the community just dont know the stuff they need to.
HA. Tell that ***** he better tell me.. lol. Odds are I'm probably not going, I have my reasons.

Though I think you guys are gonna lose anyway. Call it a hunch.
there really isnt too much of a con for it, unless you just hate the company(ies) you're under.

And getting it is just about getting sponsors. Outside of empire arcadia in NY (and I guess Evil Controllers for JWong specifically), the concept really doesnt exist for fighters. You usually hear about real sponsored pros in FPS
it means it's in the atlantic south. So i guess that means you havent actually looked around smashboards.

But as for pros, i mean there are plenty of "pros" by smash definition (which just means anybody who's really good), but by the general definition of one, the only person that I know of who's got a major sponsor is m2k. And again, that's if he's still under empire arcadia. I've been meaning to ask him about that, but it doesnt really matter since 90% of the smash community doesnt understand that concept or really understand how useful it could be.
I mean, if you wanna look at it like that. If you mean by the literal definition of a pro, then m2k is the ONLY one in all of smash, I think. (Im assuming he's still under Empire Arcadia. Yes, the same one that sponsors Justin Wong).

And yeah, LG's tourney is going to have melee. You realize they put all of their tourneys in atl south right?
