    My one biggest wish for Steve is that they use Windows music as part of his music pack. I get they're drawing from the spin-offs, but I just wanna fight to Canyon.mid and this is basically the only shot for the Windows universe (yes, I did just say "the Windows universe") to be repped in any form.

    Apparently "every stage had to be reworked" to get Steve in Smash.

    They've probably just been copied over 1 to 1 with slight alterations for Steve - but I seriously hope they took this opportunity to fix out some of the weird Hazards Off stuff.

    It's gonna be super hard for artists to draw Alex in those "Smash girl breast comparison" images given she and everything in her game are literally just a wall of squares - and I am here for it 100%. I cannot wait to see the absurd, desperate attempts straight men take to make a pile of cubes conventionally attractive just because their hormones decided to make them curve-loving normies like everyone else instead of making them a cuboid-loving chad.

    One thing I would predict appearing in Smash at some point is a Chinese rep - not nationality wise but rather a character owned by a Chinese company - for obvious reasons, however I can't find many notable video game characters owned by Chinese companies. Ignoring non-Chinese companies owned (partially or otherwise) by Tencent, the only Chinese publisher with characters (or "a character" would be more accurate) who could logically get into Smash by any stretch of the imagination is BillionSoft - who currently own Bubsy, who has almost 0 odds - I wouldn't call him impossible exactly given he is a very popular character in Western territories (albeit not for flattering reasons) and does have a large fanbase, even excluding his ironic fans, but he comes VERY close to impossible given his infamy isn't as strong in Japan. The only way I could see Bubsy getting in Smash is if a future Bubsy game defeats the odds and ends up being actually good, even then it'd have to be REALLY good to destroy Bubsy's bad rap.

    I just noticed something: Steve's trailer is full CG animation, meaning he was likely planned for E3. That means there's probably another super big character next up if we're to believe they were planning 2 characters like last time.

    It's a pattern of sorts - I know patterns get a bad rep, but:

    3DS/Wii U - no DLC reveals directly tied to E3 (though some were revealed a few days before E3 with no connected branding), no CGI DLC trailers, most use gameplay and, in the case of Corrin, animation ripped from his game.
    Ultimate - DLC reveals usually have 2D animation by that game's team or edited from that game. Hero and Banjo have CGI trailers at E3. Steve was revealed after E3 was cancelled for the year and has a CG trailer. I'm unsure if Min Min's trailer is 2D or 3D, but anyone can tell it's lower budget.

    Steve is such a common and generic name that it helps to throw in "Minecraft" so everyone knows who you're talking about, and it's just slightly easier then saying "Steve from Minecraft".

    Yeah, I'm really not all about how the Enderman alt looks, it looks weirdly short. All of this is amazing regardless.

    Let's consider a few things:
    -Prosperity brought a trident and shield, Funny Monkey Man brought no weapons, he has the moral high ground - not only that, but he's winning without weapons, making it clear he's objectively stronger.
    -Her name, "Prosperity" sounds peaceful and serene but really just means to be "successful in material terms".
    -The fact Prosperity is fighting at all with Funny Monkey Man implies she's an animal abuser.
    -Prosperity is wearing a gladiator helmet. The gladiators were absolute buffoons who rushed into danger for the sake of others' entertainment.
    -Funny Monkey Man is a funny monkey goblin, Prosperity is just a generic fantasy JRPG healer.
    -He's stomping all over the UK shield. Screw the UK. Even we Brits hate the UK.

    I have no clue how everyone fell for that bait, I was using ridiculous terms like "worst mistake of my life", "unepic" and "no-no word", it should've been obvious.

    ...Oh. Well those are not things that should be referenced. If you're pointing people towards those things, then that's almost as bad as saying those things yourself. I get the joke you were trying to make now, but I think it was a huge misfire and not really funny in the first place.

    Really it comes down to a difference in humour. Joking about the dinosaur with 500 teeth isn't an endorsement of racism, it's just a silly joke because "hey look, this thing that should be innocent isn't!" - it's basic shock humour, no worse than a Family Guy cutaway or edgy Rick & Morty quote - it's not like anyone over the age of 13 is going to read that a dinosaur's name sounds like the N word and decide to go into a crowd and shout it because "the palaeontologists say it's OK". Let's face it, we can't change the past, HP Lovecraft's cat's name is set in stone and can't be rewritten, how about we work for a better future instead and treat the terrible parts of the past for the pathetic jokes they are, learning from them in the process? There are some things that should not be joked about, I cannot deny that, and racism is still a horrible issue to this day with the N word still having hurtful power which will follow it for generations to come - but there is nothing within these memes that endorse racism, even ironically. If anything they could be considered a mockery of how people like to hide from the past instead of confront it, though I HEAVILY doubt there was really any social commentary intended with these images, they're just shock value pranks - and now I ask, where does the shock originate from? an opposition to racism.

    I liked the Sonic movie, but Detective Pikachu was infinitely better IMO. Sonic just struck me as a really good, but not-so-special kids' road trip movie that could've been done equally as good, if not better, with an original "fast alien" character - while Detective Pikachu felt like a real Pokemon world coming to life on screen (including the warts that are easy to overlook in an anime style) with a compelling plot that's equally as ridiculous as it is heartfelt, perfect for Pokemon - it's the rare live action adaptation that has reason to be live action.

    Strange how both of them had cocaine jokes though.

    I remember first seeing the trailer for Detective Pikachu and thinking “Oh my god! That CGI is scary!” and the shock from that was really memorable...

    But the shock from seeing movie Sonic... that’s a lot more memorable

    I like how rantsona video thumbnails tend to use blood font, stormy backgrounds, stock image fire, e.t.c. to refer to things as decidedly not-death-inducing as traced artwork and foot jokes in children's TV shows.

    Aaaand I’m done with smashboards for today. You can like it, but anything that makes me look at Old Movie Sonic one more time than I needed to is something I need to avoid for a while.

    One thing the gaming community is pretty much alone on is the hatred of 4:3 and 30FPS. Movies tend to use 24FPS (the standard for TV animation is 12FPS!), and many movies, especially indie productions or movies trying to replicate a retro feel, experiment with 4:3.

    Even though there's absolutely no reason for it, it would be kinda nice for Waluigi to get his own gamma series symbol, as to bridge the gap of him being a Wario-related character who doesn't appear in Wario games. That being said I think the preferable outcome would be him getting the Mario series symbol but the Wario victory theme.

    The Mario 3D All-Stars reveal trailer shows the only 3 examples of redrawn textures in 64. Surely this could count as false advertising by omission?

    I honestly don't see what's so special about Wario's shoulder bash. It's really just a generic platformer rush attack all things considered, it works perfectly as a dash attack. I don't know how you could play as a guy who runs over people with a motorbike and say "God, I wish he rammed into people with his shoulder instead."

    Mostly because it was what he originally started with as his main attack, you know. Even though DK doesn't use barrels in Smash, everyone equates barrels to DK because, ya know, arcade DK used them. Same with Mario and his jumping prowess.

    There's also the fact that some people just really love the Wario land/world series and wish they'd make another instead of focusing on the sillier-side of Wario in the -ware series.

    Its more iconic. Mario jumps, Sonic runs, Crash Bandicoot spins and Wario shoulder dashes. It just feels that way. I do think it works fine as a dash attack, but I wouldn’t mind changing it to a side special. At first it seems like it would be an uninteresting move, but they could probably throw in some things from Wario Land 4 to make it more interesting.
